Does working out more require eating more?

Hey guys, heres a question. I understand carbs and calories are fuel for the body when working out, exercising, etc. Right now, I think I eat pretty good and train 2-3 days a week, and do cardio 2-3 days a week. I'm wanting to bump this up a bit. Im going to add 2-3 more days of training and try to do cardio just about every day. Maybe even doing it on the evenings of the days I train. So my question is, how do I know how much I need to increase my food/supplement intake? I dont wanna overeat, but I want to have enough to keep up with the activity. Heres what I deal with now.

meal 1 = protein shake
meal 2 = oatmeal
meal 3 = lunch, typically some sort of chicken, maybe on a sub, veggies, etc
meal 4 = nutritional drink (high protein boost)
meal 5 =dinner, protein, veggies, carbs
meal 6 = again, some sort of chicken or chicken w/brown rice, veggies, etc

* m,w, and usually thursday i train for an hour, have a protein shake after

just looking for any advice here. thanks guys.

dont forget fats. fats play an important role in the body on many levels.

and yes, working out does require eating more. to put it as simple as possible: food is fuel. ;)

personally i weight myself once a week and record my bodyfat % every 2 weeks to see whats going on and to tell me what i need to do with my calories. with time, you'll gain the experience to understand how you're body is reacting by how you feel and just by looking in the mirror. :)

Yes, workin gout does require more. It is a lot of trial and error to find the right calorie level. But listen to your body. If you feel real hungry a lot you probably need to eat more.

Good luck.

thats probally the worst thing you can do is ever let your self get hungery, if you do your body goes into starvation mode, then when you do eat your body will what little it needs to survive then the rest will go into fat stores doing the opposite of what you want.

so you guys are saying whenever ur hungy eat?? so if i was hungry just about an hour before i went to bed and ate supper umm 3 hours ago and just ate an apple and was hungry i could eat another apple and it would cause no harm??? if u guys say it doesnt cause any harm why do i feel like it does i feel like my stomach its HUGE!!!!

Manderus, an apple only has about 60 or so calories, depending upon the size. They also have fiber in them. They're very good for you, but like all things, in proportion. 2 apples will NOT kill you.

I don't normally eat at night, I'll only drink water, which will lower my hunger as well as flush out all the toxins from my system (I'm a water freak...you can normally catch me with my sports bottle all around the clock). Sometimes though, at night, I will have a small snack...if I do, it's prolly a string cheese stick, or a fruit, and some warmed up milk. I don't normally, though, because I'm more likely to have a bad nights sleep because my body isn't resting...it's trying to digest that little snack, and I all ready have problems sleeping (not related to health problems...I'm just really paranoid). And there have been cases when I had a slice of pepperoni...heh.

Now you say your stomach feels huge? You might be bloated...Apples tend to do that to me, sometimes (either that or it's just me imagining it, which is very well possible).

The 6 meal a day thing is VERY good, it boosts your metabolism, but small meals are better than big meals.

im the same way i drink so much water.

and yes eat when your hungry if you dont your metabolism will slow down but if you know you just ate a ton like maria said have a big glass of water
