Diary of My Journey.

Hi, I've created a welcome post but I will just post it here as well.

The Essentials:
My name is Cody, I'm a 22 year old computer technician for a telecommunications company in Kansas. I'm 6'5 280-290 Lbs. I want to change.
I'm tired of being out of shape. I want to be able to run, I want to be better than what I currently am. I always tell myself "starting monday ill do this" and it never works out that way.
I currently work M-F 8am to 5pm.

Here is currently what I do on weekdays.

Monday-Friday
1: Eat breakfast consisting of quaker oatmeal (non sugar kind)
2: Go to work
3: Eat lunch, generally leftovers from home.
4: Drive home
5: Text friends, see if anyone is doing anything after work.
6: If yes (maybe 1 or 2 times a week,) I'll go play volleyball at the sand pit from 7-10)
If No (majority of the time) I'll get on my computer and either study code or play video games.

Weekends
1: Never eat breakfast
2: text friends, see what everyone is doing
3: If nothing. Computer.
4: If something, computer until that something pops up.
5: Lunch. something either dad or mom cooks
6: Dinner, something either dad or mom cooks.

One thing to note, we NEVER eat out to eat. Ever. The last time we had out to eat was when we moved from Wichita to Kansas City, our drive out there, we stopped at a mcdonalds. Our family has this thing, we like everyone to be at the dinner table when we eat, we all like to pitch in and help cook meals, and help clean up after. Makes things easier on everyone when we all pitch in.

So I need help. Honestly, I don't want supplements, and I do not want to take the easy road. I want something that is hard that I can appreciate after everything is said and done.

Here is my NEWplan.

Starting Thursday Night.
I'm going to post a Before pic.
I'm going to go to bed NO LATER than 10pm.

Starting Friday Morning.
I'm going to use my treadmill. It is at a constant 20% incline.
I'm going to wake up at 5 in the morning, stretch, and get on the treadmill for at least an hour. Nothing to strenuous, we are going to start off slow. Walking for the most part, with maybe a jog at the last 2-3 minutes or so and build up from there.

11am. I'm going to eat my lunch, usually something brought from home.
1pm. I'm going to eat again, small portions to try and build up my metabolism, because all these years of not working out must have made it slower than a snail.
4pm. I'm going to eat again, small portion, just probably a granola bar or some trail mix.

Friday Night
I get home around 6
I'm going to get on the treadmill for 2 hours. Nothing to strenuous. See if I can go longer than 2-3 minutes jogging, if not, go as far as i can before stopping.

My goal is to lose weight by running. I'm not intersted in building muscle. I just want to lose weight. If anyone has any hints or tips, or you see something wrong. Please let me know so i can correct myself and get on the right path. Much appreciated.

Hi, you made a good choice ! I know your feel, I started my diet recently and 1 to 2 weeks ago I couldn't even jogg for more than 2 minutes, I've myself decided to alternate between walking & running both work wonder.

Good luck on your journey!

Current picture, took this morning. My phone is currently charging so I'll get another one later. A full body.
I hide my weight really well behind clothes, but as soon as the shirt comes off you see the "damage"

Do you know how many cals you're aiming for each day? Just wondering, as yours look a little low. 1200 is the absolute minimum they should be at really, and for a bloke your height they should be much higher than that!

How did getting up at 5 to exercise go? I did that on Monday to go to the gym and it was horrible--I hate getting up that early! :p

Welcome to WLF :) *waves*

I got up at 5, got on the treadmill about 5:15

I went for 60 minutes, a total of 3.8 miles this morning. 520 calories were lost the treadmill said.
And then I ate back 390 Calories with my outmeal and skim milk.

I dont know how many calories I should be aiming for.

Also, I take vitamins every morning. I take 2 Vitamin C, 2 Vitamin D, and 2 Iron and Protien supplements because of my lack of nutrition in my diet. I dont know if this is healthy or not. But I do not like eating meat, I have never liked chicken steak prime rib hamburger... none of that. It hurts me because I have something called chrohns disease. Which is the primary cause of my weight loss the doctor says. Because I dont like eating as much because when i eat less, there is less to digest and less food that passes through my system.

Day 3

Decided to do this every three days.

So far going on 3 days I have walked for a grand total of 6 hours 34 minutes and have jogged for a total of 36 minutes. Have gone a total of 27.2 miles.

I'm sore. And it hurts. I stretch before and after but my legs still feel like fire. I'm 269 lbs now. I know you are supposed to take a break but I don't want to. Besides. It only hurts really bad the first 5 minutes then it goes back to normal until I stop walking.

Day 6.

I've stopped keeping track of how much time I'm doing, and how much I'm running. I'm focusing on Quality instead of Quantity.

I weighed myself this morning, and I actually gained weight. 1 1/2 lbs. I am hoping that this has something to do with building muscle mass since I am walking with weights attached to my ankles, wrists, and arms for increased resistance. I was told that it is important to not just lose weight but to tone the body as well otherwise I'm going to have excess skin. So I've decided to take the advice and walk/jog/sometimes run with weights, while moving my arms for increase in weight resistance

Even with the weight gain, which again, I hope is just muscle mass being gained. My waist size is down 1 1/4 inches. I measured this morning. Its been a tough week. I'm constantly sore, but everything I've read said that there is no harm in working out on a daily basis as long as you stretch before and after and drink plenty of liquids.

I added vitamin supplements to my diet now that I take every morning.
I take 1 Vitamin C, 1 Vitamin D, 1 Vitamin B6, 1 Vitamin B12, and 2 Protein Pills.
I have cut all "bad surgar" and almost all carbohydrates from my diet. I'm going to force my body to go through ketosis. Completely shutting out carbs is dangerous so my only source of carbohydrates are fruits and vegetables.

Throughout this whole ordeal, I've been on a strictly vegetarian diet. Not because I do not like meat, but because I want to find alternatives to meat. I love a steak just like the next person, but there are healthier methods to attaining the necessary levels of protein. Such as asparagus and spinach. The latter being the main ingredient in my salads for lunch.

Its getting easier. I can tell. I do not get as winded before like when I first started. I do not actually start sweating until a later time. I'm not enjoying this. Not yet anyways. It hurts. Its tiring, but I keep telling myself its necessary and hoping that my body will agree with me at some point during this journey ,because it seems to be fighting me every step of the way.

First thing good job on your start to becoming healthy. Stay motivated and keep pushing yourself. But not to sound like a jerk but the Likely hood of gaining 1-1/2 pounds of muscle in 6 days. Slim to none. Most likely it is just water weight. Your weight will jump around. They say to weigh yourself once a week or so. When I first started to loose weight I had to weigh myself everyday. It was the way I stayed motivated. But now that I'm getting close to my goal weight it is becoming harder and harder to drop the last 7 pounds. So I stopped and only weigh myself once a week. So anyways keep up eating clean and working hard you will get there.

I went a little off the rocket and had a huge coke at the movies last night. I know, stupid. But still, after weighing myself (before working out) I'm 270, Not 277 like I used to be. I'm actually excited because its working. Its freaking working.

I'm able to jog for 5 minutes straight at 4.5-5 miles an hour on the treadmill. Thats a huge accomplishment for me, it tallies to about .5-.6 miles on the treadmill, and since the treadmill is at a constant 20% incline I feel that I could probably push myself to jog a mile on relatively flat ground.

I'm still maintaining my vegetarian diet, except for the coke I had last night, I've literally cut every single "Bad sugar" from my diet.
still taking my vitamins, and was recommended by a friend to start lifting weights because my skin will become a little loose and needs something to wrap itself around at some point.

I also do little things, like walk around after lunch at work. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator to the 4th floor.
