Like many other people on these forums, I am on a journey of weight loss and overall fitness. At my heaviest, I weighed 350lbs. Within the past year, my heaviest was 331lbs. After a bout of illness, I was down to 321lbs and decided to begin my weight loss journey. I am currently at 297lbs after using a reduced calorie (1500-2500) diet and increased excercise program.

My excercise program began as 30-45 minutes of cardio (moderate walking on treadmill) 4-6 times a week with light circuit training 1-3 days a week. Since then, I have began playing racquetball 2-4 times a week, treadmill 1-2 times a week and light circuit training 1-3 days a week.

I have bad knees, so I received cortisone shots in both knees about 4-5 weeks ago. It seems as though I have been battling my appetite ever since I got those shots.

I feel as though my plan isn't structured and I'm just going about things haphazardly. I'm looking for some input from members of the forums to help structure my diet and exercise a little better.

I think my ultimate goal weight is 200-215lbs. I have a large frame and "big bones" so I think that will be a healthy weight for me.

I appreciate any and all input. Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Woke up late this morning, so I missed my morning workout. I'll be playing racquetball for probably an hour and a half tonight, so maybe today won't be a total loss.

Going to try to eat around 2000 calories today...

Coffee with sugar and ff vanilla creamer 100
Yogurt with cereal topping 120
G2 40
Bumblebee FF tuna salad with crackers 150

Lunch:
Green beans 123
Hebrew National Hotdogs (2) 80
SaraLee 45 calorie bread 90
7 oz. tuna 210

Afternoon Snack:
2 small granny smith apples 140

Snack before racquetball:
100 calorie popcorn 100

Snack after racquetball:
2 fresco tacos 360

Late supper:
LF raviolis 340
1 cup cheddar chex mix 240

Total calories 2093
Goal 2000

I feel like I ate ALOT today...and I did. I've been reading some about sending your body into starvation mode, so I am making an attempt to eat more calories. I definitely DID NOT go hungry.

Racquetball was a really good workout tonight...probably the best workout we've gotten since we started playing...we both played hard and well.

Actual starting weight yesterday was 297.8.
Weight today 296.4.

I made sure to re-hydrate last night...so hopefully it's not water loss. I burned ALOT of calories playing racquetball...

Well, I'm by no means a trainer nor am I a senior member, but all the same, I thought I'd pop by and wish you luck! It's a great forum, and you should find what you're looking for.

Thanks ymcachick!

You know, looking back, I probably shouldn't have worded it that way (senior member/trainer)...there are alot of people on these boards that have had success and have alot to share. My apologies if anyone took offense to that...it was not intended.

Thanks again for stopping by! I'll take all the encouragement and advice I can get!

LOL that is cute! In weight loss sites, its common to be pleased when a person goes from the 200's to the 100's. Once you hit the 100's, like 199 lbs, you're in "onderland". Get it? Sorry for the confusion :).

I hurt my foot playing racquetball Monday...so I haven't been able to do any morning cardio. I did work up a good sweat last night getting ready for a yard sale we're having this weekend.

Even with me consuming a 590 calorie bomb yesterday, the scale said 295.4 this AM.

Based on Steve's 14 calories per pound for maintenance, I was still at over a 40% calorie deficit yesterday. I'm trying to eat more calories, but it's just difficult making that change in my mindset. If I need over 4000 calories to maintain.....how bad was I eating to get where I am????? Scary...

I posted this in another thread, but I thought I'd make it part of my journal as well.

So I found this peice of paper from a high school Sunday school class that I was teaching from probably two years ago. It was folded up and somehow got stuck in my little travel shaving kit that I keep on my bathroom vanity.

I had written a worksheet for the students to complete in class. While they were working on it, I went through and answered the questions myself.

It goes something like this:

I face great struggles from Satan because God has great things planned for me. The attacks are strong, because the prize is grand. Am I ok fighting the battles I can't win on my own? When will my futility and frustrations turn into commitment and resolve??? Only when my commitment is to Jesus, not the battle. And when my resolve is to serve the Lord, not good deeds or actions.

I choose the path on which I travel. I choose if I am to walk in the light, fully exposing my sin to Christ, or if I walk in the path of darkness. If I choose a path of darkness, I do understand that though I cloak myself in darkness and hide in the bushes of sin....I can not hide myself from God. He sees me as I am...broken, raw...and full of sin.

So to those who stand with me, I call you "brothers" and "sisters". And I say to you "Let us prepare for battle."

For those who stand opposed, I call you "enemy". And to you I say "Prepare for defeat."

Victory is at hand.
I realized this morning that this applies to my struggles with being healthy....among many other things.

Today is a new day. There is Victory at hand for those who wish to claim it.

Nice attitude, man.

That's what I like to remind people as often as possible. The "you" you desire is right there for the taking. You simply have to be willing to leave your zone of comfort and, with a great deal of consistency, take the small steps necesssary that lead to this "you."

Thanks Steve...

I'm starting to realize that "making your mind up" to do something is 90% of the battle.
