So anyone want to hear about my day yesterday?
Aside from being bummed out this morning, then triuphant, then ok, I should tell about my day.
I worked in the office until 4:30, then I was allowed to go to the restaurant where our company's trade tasting was.
"Trade Tasting" = several hours at a restaurant that we buy out, and a rep or 2 from all our wineries shows up to pour their wine for the invites, which are winebuyers/restaurant owners. A lot of these people I talk to on the phone several times a week, and my other boss was there and the bartender manager I work with, too.
Industry people are usually really cool, partyers or oldtimers who have partied most their lives. There are people from 21-60, colorful personalities and such.
Being a pretty girl makes it a lot of fun because men are really open to chat with me--then find out I'm smart, too, and have traveled and know a lot of random shit, and then they are quite charmed. The women like me too, but they're not as interested in chatting sometimes. Anyway, I was feeling weird at first and I felt sort of like a rockstar when I came in and started saying hi to everyone, because everyone recognized me and was saying hi back--sometimes calling me by my last name. Richard started raving about me being in the paper for winning that race in the SCMnts--he raved to everyone within earshot and I felt like his embarrassed daughter
I said hi to my other boss, his wife (who has the same birthday as me--and we have the same birthday as Andrea from Mount Eden and also one of the partners of my company) and my main boss, and hugged my bartender/manager (who is one of the nicest guys in the world). Winemakers were shocked to hear about all my bosses.
I really like Tony and Joe from Sonnet, they're awesome men and Joe loves my tribe, the Acoma Pueblo, because he's taken tours on Sky City (my tribe's plateau). Most people are enamoured with my last name, which is 11 letters and native American (my mom never married my dad, I have her last name--but then she married my stepdad and is a Taylor now). Anyway, I went over to talk to Brad Warner, who made wine for Robert Modavi for years and years and now does Sawyer Cellars. He was right next to Brock from Brochelle Vineyards. I'd never met either, our company just started distributing them.
Oh my god their wines are SOOOOOOOOO good!
Anyway, I told them that I was feeling very shy and uptight. They asked why and I couldn't answer. But after drinking their wine and talking to them, I felt better. Brad is a VERY nice man. Actually, all the winemakers are nice. I especially love Richard and Stephen Vincent Situm Jr. (of SVW) and Tim from Fess Parker. James from Rombauer is really cool, too. I spilled wine on my white shorts right away, it was Juslyn 2004 Cabernet Cuvee--DELICIOUS! That made me upset at first, but everyone joked with me and I ended up getting a lot of attention, lol! I said hi to Johanna from Fort Ross and their 03 Symposium almost made me orgasm! Oh man it's good!! I especially love Mt. Eden's 04 Chardonnay--Saratoga Cuvee, oh my god, yummy!! I was loving Adelaida's Cabernets, as well--and Rob from William Harrison just gave me a bottle of wine for no reason! He's 33 and really hot by the way
Afterward the Pres took the people who wanted dinner to a nice restaurant--where I had salmon and had a great time talking to the reps. I gave one of our reps (one of my favs) beer from SCM Brewery for his b-day which is tomorrow (he's gonna be 45). He's nice to me and always gives me extra pouring jobs, which means free dinner/wine/more money.
Later that evening I went and looked a a room--but it's too small (6 1/2 x 13) and there is a deaf dog who lives there that barks too much.
Today:
Going to go to Kickboe, no working after work, YAY!
