Desperate.

Hello to all. I'm Marilyn and I'm 16 years old. With all the ads and mags making me feel like crap, I really need someone to guide me into training properly so I can lose my belly. It's not that huge, it's just summer is coming up and wearing a bikini with that belly has become my worst fear. First I can't say I'm totally un-active like some teens. I swim once a week and bike to school everyday (which adds up to about 30 minutes of bike each day). I eat properly but the trouble is, I've been through a little anorexia problem for the last 5 months and I've healed pretty quick, but my body seems to be storing any thing he can get into my...BELLY! It really bothers me. I really don't mind building a bit of muscle but I need to lose weight an body fat. Please name some exercises I could do daly or whenever to lose that fat quick. 6 months ago, I weighed 95 pounds. In my healing, I went up to a healthy and full 126 pounds. BUT now I've risen to 132!! OH oh!! Help!! (please be specific on HOW to do the exercises because my english sucks!!) :)

What are you eating now? How tall are you? You need to be careful recovering from anorexia that you don't get too strict with your diet and cause yourself to have a relapse. Just try to eat healthy...make healthy choices and include enough protein in your diet. It may take awhile for your body to increase its metabolism again but it WILL!

Do you have any weights available so you can start lifting weights?

Well I eat alot of fruits, alot of salads and veggies for snack, oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies by times, pasta, turkey sandwich...I don't eat alot of red meat. I don't drink much milk maybe 3-4 glasses per week. ALOT of water when biking. That's about it. My parents buy alot of good stuff though, we never have chips or that kind of goodie, so it helps. I'm 5''6... :)

sounds like you're a pretty healthy weight...and I agree that if you're recovering from an eating disorder that you have to be very careful. It might be best to focus on toning...not weight loss...you might want to start light lifting and ab work for your stomach.

By the way, magazines are not a realistic portrayal of most womens' bodies. You should not necessarily aspire to that type of frame!

Try to increase protein a little bit and add some weight training into your workout. In my opinion, a half hour of bike riding a day is enough cardio. What kind of weight equipment do you have?

Well my equipment is quite ok (I think) I've got a bench, two bars and a collection of weights from 2 pounds to 25 pounds and I have a big bouncy ball (I heard that'd be useful for perfecting abs?):p I also have small weights that you can attach around your wrists or ankles, and some small ones that look like bones that you can just lift with both hands...:D

Could someone help me build a routine I could do for all my body (mostly abs) using these weights?

P.S.:Be specific on HOW to do the exercises because my english is kinda bad...

I would say do three days a week of weight training...maybe Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Alternate upper and lower body exercises. There are lots of exercises available to you...check out www.exrx.net for some videos of different exercises.

There is no reason to do abs more than maybe 3 times a week because the only way you can lose fat from your abs is to lose fat from your whole body.

I don't mean to lecture you but I'm sure you look great but since you have had an eating disorder you're not in tune with the way you actually look. I'm the same way because I used to be bulimic. For example, I HATE my legs and yesterday a guy I don't even know came over and complimented me on them. Also, remember that it'll take awhile for your body to get out of starvation mode.

Oh and the stability ball is awesome for abs, legs, almost everything. I found this link looking for exercises to do for my aerobics classes...check it out:

Well thanks alot you guys! I'll start training right this monday! For now I have a bike camp saturday and sunday with my Outdoors class!! Yay! Thanks alot for the links and tips! ;) Luff yah!

Your goal should be to develop a healthy and maintainable lifestyle. One that you can continue through your life. The habits that you develop as a kid will stay with you for many years.
