Deck's Diary

Hey hey.

Today is the first day of my weight shredding efforts, my plan is pretty harsh but it's all based on bits pieces that have worked for me in the past.

In college, i hit around 15st (I'm 5ft 9") and then over the course of about a year and a half i managed to get down to around 11st 7lbs. I'd like to say it was all done ethically but i started smoking a lot to surpress my appetite during the evenings (I certainly do not recommend or condone this), alongside a weight regime at the gym around four times a week.

A few years later and I've just touched 14 stone, having been around 12 stone only 7 months ago.

So, let's be on with it then.

1 - I aim to lose 30lbs. I'm currently 198lbs, those of you who are numerically blessed will know my target weight is 168lbs.

2 - Hopefully i can hit 168lbs in about 6 months. (End of June 2013)

3- I'll be doing the following to hit these targets:

WORKOUTS
- High Intensity interval training 6 nights a week for the first 7 weeks (40-60 minute sessions)
- Resistance, yoga and cardio training 6 nights a week for the remaining weeks (40-60 minute sessions)
- 40 minutes swimming twice a week (lunch hour)
- 40 minutes weights twice a week (lunch hour)

DIET
- 28 day body detox (no dairy, meat, alcohol, wheat or any of that awesome stuff I love)
- Low carb diet, 400cal meals 5 times a day (might even start using food blocks if i feel all fancy)
- I MAY look into using meal replacement shakes if research tells me to and I feel like spending £100 on food drinks, which i don't, but i might.

SUPPORT
- Generally I have my boss at work who comes to the gym to do weights with me at lunch, and now this forum for support. My girlfriend and mother are far too nice to agree with the fact that I've put weight on, and therefore don't really want to get in the "we support you losing weight" boat, as that would mean they would have to admit I've gotten chubby to start with..

Ok so hopefully that's answered enough questions about myself and given enough outlines and info to update on in the future. A big thanks to Jen Renee and Trusylver for pointing me to the diary and thanks for reading.

I'll keep you posted and good luck in your own journey,

one thing which I like most from the above article that is "40 minutes swimming twice a week". this is really splendid...

Ok, good start.

Aside from a cup of tea here and there, I've stuck to my detox plan and workout plan. I've been filling myself with homemade lentil and minestrone soups, and wheat free bread when i feel hungry, and then working out in the evening for around an hour. After about a week I've dropped 3lbs (weighing myself at the same time of day and wearing the same awesome shorts).

I said my goodbyes to alcohol on New Years eve, I had about 5 beers and then just water afterwards. Now all that is out of the way i can see exactly how far this diet and workout plan can take me in a month, after that I'll be bringing meat back into my diet and reducing carb intake massively.

So after a week, total weightloss - 3lbs

Another pound bites the dust, I'm weighing myself every couple of days at the minute as I figured I'd combine my current diet with intermittent fasting. From today onward I'll start weighing myself once a week again.

Oh by the way I've done a bit of research into intermittent fasting (leangains) and it seems great; the first two days have been a little tough, but manageable. I'd be interested to hear anyone else's experiences with intermittent fasting and what worked for them. My eating window is 6 hours (most people go for 8, but 6 hours fits my work/gym routine perfectly and I'm looking for quicker results) which allows me to get my calories in between 2pm and 8pm. Eating from 2pm also leaves an hour's gap between my lunchtime workout and my first meal, which apparently burns more fat (experienced IFs supposedly leave a 2-3 hour gap between working out and their first meal to maximize results).

SO, incorporating IF into my efforts and mixing that shit up like a skimmed milkshake.

SW - 198lbs CW - after 7 days - 194lbs

Hey there,

Congrats on the loss.

I've done a little bit of research on intermittant fasting, mostly listening to others opinions, and it seems that it might be a good thing. The method I try is to finish eating early in the evening and then after waking up do some decent exercise and then wait a bit for my first meal. I try to do that a couple of times a week. There was a study of hospital workers who did that as the only thing they changed in their lifestyle and they had some excellent results.

I'll be interested to see how you go.

Hey Anna,

Thanks for your info! Your approach sounds quite similar to mine; I think that hour or two between working out in the morning and eating your first meal makes a huge difference when it comes to burning up that excess weight.

I've been doing research like crazy into IF and honestly I can't believe everybody's not doing it. I've been doing it since Thursday (today being Sunday) and I feel absolutely awesome. I'm full of energy during the day and I'm sleeping much better at night. I do my workout around 11.45 and then start my 6 hour eating window at 2pm. I take in about 1600cal (clean foods) and eat my last meal at about 8pm.

Honestly I woke up this morning and my stomach had sucked right up. I feel great, in a way better mood generally and not at all anxious or reclusive like I was.

Anyone reading, TRY intermittent fasting, it's THE SHIT.

Day 6 of intermittent fasting and my first day back in work.

I felt great today, we had an hour long meeting at 9.30am and I felt so alert and focused. Normally i find it hard to concentrate but today felt so much different.
Also, the more research I do into IF, the more excited I am to be doing it. The eating window system suites me just fine and i feel so much better for doing it.

Also today was my first day back in the gym (i've just been doing insanity workout in the evenings until today) and it was great. Having not eaten since 8pm last night, i thought my energy levels would have dipped, but somehow i felt more focused and energetic in the gym without food in my stomach than i ever did after eating.

I have to wait til Friday to weigh myself, but I'm so eager to do it sooner, just to see if intermittent fasting has had any decent effect on my weight loss.

I'll post again when I weigh myself next.

Ok had my weigh-in, I'm down to 190lbs!

Total weight loss:8lbs!

Boo-Fuckin-Yah

I'll weigh in again next Friday.

Also as a side note, intermittent fasting has become really easy now. My appetite has adjusted to it completely and because I'm so ready to eat by the time my eating window comes around (2pm) healthy meals taste fantastic.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks Jen!

I've been doing weights or swimming through the daytime too.

The gym around the corner from my office has been EMPTY since new year; I guess everybody in Manchester decided their New Year's resolution was to stop hitting the gym. I got a bag of true whey yesterday too, it's great for muscle building but not bulking. In other words I can get two scoops of that down me each day and not worry about putting fat on.

Insanity workout is going well, although i made the mistake of using the treadmill at the gym on Monday, and now my shins bones feel as sturdy as burnt matches. Be warned, Insanity workout is about ALL the impact your legs can take, I'd stick to cycling, swimming and the rowing machine for any extra gym cardio.

My diet is going pretty steady too, nothing too drastic, keeping it at 40% protein, 40% carbs and 20% fats. Getting my calories from decent foods (white meats and clean carbs) and sticking to a strict 6 hour eating window.

I'll take another weigh in on Friday
