Deadlift and Back Pain?!?!?

I did deadlifts yesterday and now my back is killing me but I don't know why. I even took the weight down some cause I thought I hurt my back last week but I didn't. I don't know what's wrong. Does anyone have any idea?

Where in the back is the pain? What kind of pain is it (stiffness, burning, knifing, does it get better or worse if you move or stretch the area, does it get better or worse if you lay or sit still...)?

It's in my lower back. It hurt really bad this morning to sit on the edge of my bed. I can't turn around in a chair either without it hurting.

Back pain and deadlifts is a big signal of the BAD FORM factor. You can lighten the bar up all you want. If you have bad form the wrong muscles will be engaging too soon too often.

Check your posture. Deadlift is an advance move...not meant for beginners.

Back care:
-Increase hip mobility warmup and cooldown
- Ice back
- take l-glut or zma
- Stretch hip flexor and pelvic rotational muscles (quad, Q.L. psoas, glutes,) religiously

Deadlift wihtout anything other than perfect form is a great way to hurt your back. The best thing to do is let your back heal up then go through it with someone else, a trainer or someone that is an expert in the motion. Having someone watch your form is the best way to get it down.

improper from my friend....always remember when you deadlift to keep your back as straight as possible, even looking straight up helps, push through the floor and pull your hips not your knees as this will cause your back to round

I'm kinda ressurecting this thread. Figured I'd do it here rather than to post a new thread. I did deadlifts for the first time ever in my life the other day. My lower back was horrible for 2 days, but its fine now. I'm just assuming it hurt like hell because I had never worked those muscles that hard. I hope I don't have bad form. I'm doing the NROL break in program, and this exercise is list on it, so I have to do it! If I experience pain like I had again, I will consult an instructor at the gym.

see an instructor, and just hope he is qualified. Did you keep the weight into your body, touching your shins, things all the way to the top? and did you keep the lower back straight?
