deadlift advice?

MY question is this: I cant touch my toes. Doing deallifts, do you have to pick the dumbells off of the ground on each lift? or does it suffice to mearly go as far down (but keep the dumbells n your hands) as you can?

problem is the only way i can reach the ground to pick the dumb bells up is my curving my back

any advice?

at the moment neither.

I would choose whichever I could accomplish properly.

I know for a fact that I cant touch the ground doing straight legged

let me try the other.....oneeee sec.

yeah i find it hard to not curve my spine on both.

You're probably excessively tight in the hams.

Do some pre-workout mobility work, some post workout stretching and some foam rolling.

Also, make sure you're doing plenty of hip/ham work since it's possible your hams are tight because they're trying to counter an imbalance between quads and hams.

That's a conventional deadlift.

This is a romainain deadlift.

The conventional deadlifts you do have to pick up the barbell from the ground. The romanians you dont. Romanians you shouldn't be touching your toes.

You're probably not bending your knees, with a conventional deadlift you pick it up from the floor but you squat down to get the bar, you don't just curve your back and bend over like you're trying to touch your toes.

no no, on the conventional i am bending my knees. I think it might just be because im trying to pick up the weight in front of my and my back is ossibly too weak? hence it curves to compensate?

I think i could do the romainians. thanks a bunch guys!

I agree with PMDilly...depends on your goals. if your goal wasn't to be a huge beast, then RDL's plus SLDL's would probably accomplish the basic goals of being fit and not injuring yourself doing daily activities like picking up a box on the floor.
if you're an athlete, or bodybuilding, then nothing can replace deadlifts (although RDL and SLDL can be a part of your deadlift rotation for bodybuilding :)
