Day 2..and I need some help!

Hello everyone!

Call me Arabia!..I'm a university student in Canada..trying desperately to de-jiggle myself. I'm 5'4-ish..and my highest weight was achieved 3 years ago in my final year of highschool, 153lbs. Currently I'm about 143 (down from 146) and am looking to get down to 125 and eventually 120.

I checked my BMI today and found that I'm a 26. Not so nice. :(

Don't scold or scoff ..but I'd like to significantly decrease my size in 2 months. (to the tone of 10-15lbs) I'm going to be visiting family in the Middle East and I can't tell you how bad it has been to always be the "fat" cousin. (This was a spontaneously planned trip..I wish I had more time..)

I want to be able to feel good about myself. I don't want to look anemic..I just want to be fit. I want to run the stairs in University and feel fine. I feel like I'm not 'supposed' to be this fat..and that once I get down I will be able to maintain it. I go to the gym and swim..and I am focusing on toning up.

Today is day 2 on my journey. I'm doing a restrictive diet..probably not the best ever..but desperate times call for desperate measures.

I'm sure someone's been in a similar predicament and can help talk me through this.

Help is much appreciated.

hi :)

I think 10-15 in 2 mths is very realistic..you can do it! I dont' know that I'd do some kind of crash diet, I tend to loose 2 pds a week eating a 1200 cal diet...what kind of diet on you doing??

Just remember to take things one day at a time, one meal at a time if you have to :)

Hello Arabia- welcome to the forum. 10 to 15 pounds in the next 2 months is not totally unreasonable...providing you work hard at it. Remember to keep in mind that if you restrict your diet too much you could make it harder for your body to lose by putting it in starvation mode. I am not an expert, but from what I have read (and I also had a doctor tell me this) a woman is not supposed to go below 1200 calories a day. I myself usually aim between 1200and 1500 calories a day. Try starting a diary...you can gets lots of advice and support. Good luck reaching your goals.

The one thing that I have seen all the experienced members and moderators trying to pound into our heads is that a restrictive diet is self- destructive. I know what you mean about desperate times, but from what I have recently learned on here is that if I eat less than 1200 calories a day, I am going to make my desperate times even worse by sabotaging my metabolism. I hope you can find a way to get the exercise you need and hey, ENJOY the fact that you can eat well and lose MORE weight in the long run than you can making yourself miserable with a restrictive diet. Here's a pat on your back for encouragement *Pat, Pat* ;) I wish you all the best weight loss...and yummy satisfying food to go with it!!

Hi Arabia,

I remember wanting to lose weight quickly before my wedding and the best thing I ever did was work with a trainer to set me up with an exercise plan that worked well for me and for my weight loss goal. I thought I knew everything about what my body needed to lose weight, but I was really surprised at what the trainer supported me in doing and the results. Good luck,

Shona:)

I agree with Tiffany - not to mention, the closer you are to your goal weight, the harder (and longer) it is to lose.

When I was in the 200's I was able to lose 8-10 pounds a month - now, I lose about 5 pounds a month. I also know better then to reduce my calories too low now too.

Best of luck to you as you find what works well and healthfully for you :)

Byarg.

I think I hit a minor plateau. Probably because I am a little bloated. Don't you hate when you eat something that makes you retain water and just makes your tummy distended, even if only for a few days??...ick.

Okay. Back on track.. going to hit the gym tomorrow (fingers crossed) and the diet isn't so bad. It's about 1000 cals. So far I've managed to trim that really light layer of fat that makes me jiggle when running up stairs.

And the uni's escalators are all broken, so learning to run stairs has increased my stamina just enough.

Thanks for all the support. It came when I needed it most. :)

Cheers!

`Arab.
