Dan's Journal

Welcome to my weight loss journal everyone. This journal will be a tool to aide me in my journey to shedding off my unwanted pounds.

First of all my goal will be to work out everyday.
-Dancing, or whatever it takes to actually get my body moving so I can lose calories, key to weight loss.
Secondly, I will carefully watch my caloric intake by keeping a small notebook with me.
-This notebook should help me avoid eating too much as I will have to write down what I eat every day!
Thirdly, I will make this as simple as possible since I can't handle too much due to my easily stressed out mind.
-I will follow my routine every day and eat way less.... easy and simple as that.

Here are some pictures of me when I'm starting out. (A bit embarrased of uploading my pictures, but it will be a good before and after once I'm done :smash:)

I will be reporting weekly.

Great job starting a journal! Moving more and eating less is also my plan. I used to count calories, but it started to stress me out too much. I've just been trying to eat less the past few weeks and it's working well for me. I'm sure it will for you as well. I'll be looking forward to future updates from you! :)

Hi Dan & welcome to the forum. Good for you posting photos now. You're a braver person than me! I wish I had taken photos of me at my biggest. Keeping a note book is a great idea & you could also write down things you might later want to share with us and/or be able to look back on one day. I occasionally go back to the start of my diary to remind myself how far I have come. The forum is a really good place to share your thoughts & experiences & you should get support & advice if you need it. Once again, a big welcome! Cheers, Cate

Thanks and subscribe to my journal if possible. I'll be updating weekly.

Just one question. How do you manage when you're so hungry. My cravings are strong enough to almost break my diet, but I have prevailed, thanks to my strong self-control.

Posting photos wasn't easy. I suffer from personal anxiety from my self image and well being online, here, feels much easier because I know there are a couple of people here who are dedicated to the same goals and perhaps some who feel the same way as I do. For purposes of looking back. I do take pictures. They are good reference points and build a slideshow of my progress (although slow).

As for the notebook, it is a good idea. The notebook reinforces my idea of a slimmer diet. I write every calorie I eat and for some reason, writing it down in my green memo pad helps reinforce my motivation. Its a good, although sometimes I lose my notebook, idea to keep my notebook at all times. It even helps with my memory as to I do tend to forget other things during my day, and my notebook has helped me remember some activities, dates, or other sensitive information which I could have easily lost and forgot without a successful recovery option.

Cate, thanks for the warming welcome. :)

You are very welcome Dan. I think you will find support, rather than criticism in here. Most people I have encountered are kind & friendly.

Welcome to the community!

Have you tried Myfitnesspal? It's a great app. I use it every day to count calories and macro-nutrient ratios.

Also, if you're always hungry, stuff your body with vegetables. It really does help. Get like 3 cups of veggies for lunch and you'll be set till dinner.

I'm curious as to what your current diet is looking like, such as when and what? You're doing great by coming up with a concept of working out that you ENJOY. That is very big in the mental part and dancing is great because you're doing so many different things the body can't adjust as easily to a specific routine. Good job there. The first couple of weeks can be hard with craving, but you'll realize once you flush the toxins out the craving subsided quite a bit... sometimes you won't even want them anymore. I'd suggest looking more into fiber if you're hungry though. Lentil, is great for example. Grapefruit can hold you over with it's large amount of liquid. As JayFS suggested vegetables are a great way to go as well. I'm personally high on broccoli and cauliflower. You're doing well, man. Just keep logging and keeping yourself accountable, you're going to get there. We're all rooting you on.

Welcome aboard!!! I track my calories each day with a free app "Lose It". Easy to use since I always have my phone with me. You can scan bar codes or search their huge database. It's really easy. I use a budget of 1500 calories per day.

No I haven't tried Myfitnesspal solely because I don't have a cellphone to try it on. It sounds like a nice app, but I'm not into the whole cellphone thing. The reason is because I'm always around a wifi spot here in my town (home, school, public wifi spots) and I found a phone to just be a waste of money so I just usually save the money and put it towards another bill. (I use google voice for most of my phone calls.)

I will try buying vegetables next time I go shopping for food.

Thanks for the helpful information JayFS

My diet isn't so great due to the lack of nutritious food in my house. I eat whatever I can plus water. Alot of water. Then I count my calories. I'm currently on a 1000 calorie diet. My aim here is to lose about a pound or two a week.

Yes it has been hard sticking to my diet, and thanks for rooting for me. It helps man. :D

How do you deal with the unsatisfaction of eating healthy?

Journal Entry #2

I'm glad to report that I have lost 3 pounds ever since last week. I weight about 273.6 lbs and now I'm down to 270 lbs straight according to my scale, so my dieting must be working. I really haven't been working out too much but I've been very busy and walking around alot. I've been trying to keep myself busy by doing everyone's chores and just using them as a excuse to burn calories, which is working out in my favor and actually working. I couldn't believe it once I got onto my scale.

Once I got into the diet, I was having major cravings for food. Anything fatty. Even if I was full of water and salads, I was still craving burgers and fatty foods. Also working out was so hard for me that I only finished about half of my workout, but the next day was better. I finished my workout all the way through. I don't know why I was able to do it, but I got all the way through the workout with some trouble.

Once I stopped eating so much, after 3-4 days, I did start feeling somewhat better. I was able to control myself better with the food cravings and I was able to just lay down in bed and relax without much hunger, which is a good sign because maybe my body was adapting to using the fat cells in my body as it's primary source of energy next to the small amount of food I was consuming.

I have been consuming much more water than before, so I'm staying well hydrated, which is important, and I'm taking vitamin supplements. I'll upload some pictures of what I'm consuming.

So far, this week (past 7 days) has taught me that I can do it, and you guys are helping me feel more confident about my ability in getting to my goal. Thanks everyone. :D

My weight loss ticker has been updated.

Yeah, as long as you stay on top of what you're eating - how much, you'll be good I think. As far as unsatisfied, I lost that issue after a few weeks. I started eating more meals in a day. I would have a breakfast, lunch, lots of water, protein bar, two fruits, and a dinner. I switched from big plates to smaller plates - it supposedly tricks the brain. It's working for me. But you've lost some weight, and that is great, and it sounds like you're getting to the same point where you have more control. Keep kicking some ass, brother.

Great job on the loss this week! I also wanted to mention that if you wanted to try MyFitnessPal, you can use it on your computer. I used it for years on my laptop, as I'm not fond of using the app on my phone. It is a great site. :)
