cutting and then bulking question

hey hows everyone doing? ive decided im going to start cutting. i havent done the calculations but i know i have to take in 500 less calories so if its 3000 to maintain my current weight ill be taking in 2500. im trying to lose the fat on my belly and get defined at the same time. how long should i cut? after i cut i want to start bulking and get bigger than i am right now. also once i start bulking again do i go up to 3000 calories daily which would be 500 more than when i was cutting or do i go all the way up to 3500? thanks for your responses.

Do you have a diet plan in place with the times you are going to eat and the pro/carb/fat breakdowns of those meals?

A typical cut can run from 2-4 months depending on how your progress is going but it is up to you to determine how long you want/need to in order to reach your desired goal. I would gradually up my calories up to 3500 over a couple of weeks after you cut so you don't shock the shyt out of your metabolism.

SO true. I made the mistake of immediately going from a deficit to jumping up 1000 calories. I gained unnecessary fat within the first week, and also just felt sluggish for the first few days. Next time around, I will just up it 200 cals a week or so until I get to the right surplus number.

I am not saying you should do this because I really do not know anything about you yet... but what I did up to this point to get my body fat % below 10% is to start like this.

For 2 weeks and only 2 weeks, I am a guy by the way, I cut my calories to 1500. I drank and continue to do so... 1 gallon of water a day and I also made sure to take a multivitamin. I also eat lots of eat whites, veggies (spinach), and normal health food - without writing a book.

After the two weeks which was extremely difficult and build some good discipline, I lost a lot of body fat. I also did a specialized wight training during those weeks. After ward, I can already tell you are on the right track because you want to eat a few hundred calories under what you burn and maintain a strong weight lifting regimen.

You will continue to loose body fat and gain muscle... you wont get big and you weight might actually go up, but you will slim down and get ripped up!

danboyle isn't 1500 calories starvation mode? How much weight in lbs did you lose? Did you have any strength for the weights? That sounds like a crash diet which will leave you with a big headache.
