RATS!!!!!! :cuss:

My gramps emailed me the news--the Grape Stomp race that I did last year and not this year's winner for my age group:

Female 5K age 20-29 (20 overall)
Annie Bauman-Livermore, first place, age 27, time 24:28.3 pace 8:09

Man, I could have beaten her by 3+ minutes!!

Ah, well, let the woman win on her own turf. I guess that would be fucked up if some bitch from Boulder Creek came and took 1st place! I don't think I'd like it if some bitch from Livermore came to the SCM and took 1st place over me on MY turf.....

Awww, well, I've had my glory--I'm actually anxious (of course) about this Thursday's 10K. Man oh man I hope I place in my age group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can do it!! Run fast and hard!! I don't stand a chance at winning any run at my current pace. But I still have fun doing it. I'll give myself another solid year of training and then try to see if I could ever place in my age group. Right now there is no way...haha

I thought the major cause of IT Band issues stemmed from inflexibility. Seeing that you are nice and limber this might be why you have no issues. Consider yourself lucky!! I've seen most people's IT Band start acting up when they increase their activity levels too fast. Sounds like you have a natural gift and you don't over do it. I doubt you would develop issues. :)

Melissa you're too sweet :)

But even I shall be old and decrepit, if I survive 2012--hahahahaa!! (sorry a bunch of people I know think Dec something 2012 is like, doomsday).

Check it out! It's "multifaceted," haha! Iliotibial Band Syndrome can result from one or more of the following training habits, anatomical abnormalities, or muscular imbalances:

Training habits:

* Running on a banked surface (such as the shoulder of a road or an indoor track) bends the downhill leg slightly inward and causes extreme stretching of the band against the femur
* Inadequate warm-up or cool-down
* Increasing distance too quickly or excessive downhill running
* In cycling, having the feet "toed-in" to an excessive angle
* Running up and down stairs
* Hiking long distances

Abnormalities in leg/feet anatomy:

* High or low arches
* Overpronation of the foot
* The force at the knee when the foot strikes
* Uneven leg length
* Bowlegs or tightness about the iliotibial band.
o Excessive wear on the outside heel edge of a running shoe (compared to the inside) is one common indicator of bowleggedness for runners.

Muscle Imbalance:

* Weak hip abductor muscles
* Weak/non-firing multifidi muscles

I got everything going for me except I run on the beach, which is somewhat banked, depending (slopes down, BUT I run equally on both sides) on the sand (which is different every day).

Today it was cool and foggy. There was almost no one on the beach, and it was very very flat. I tried running with my eyes closed, and I instantly started to meditate while said eyes were shut--all mind-chatter disappeared. It was pretty awesome! Then I opened my eyes and I started thinking again. HA, but the run today went well--no struggle, I felt strong, and my timing was good. It also went quickly......

My IT band has given me problems in the past but hasn't hurt in the past 4 months or so. I tried different things to help it like extra stretching, more yoga and pilates, running hills that are less steep. I'm not sure which was the culprit but it seems to have worked. It hurts like a bitch when the IT band is inflamed. Ouch!

Good luck with the 10K! I know you'll kick ass and place in your age group!

So are you actually running on the sand? Like close to the water when the sand is compacted? How does that work for you? I'd be worried I would get my shoes wet or roll my ankle.

When I watched Tri finish at Big Kahuna they ran right along the water by the boardwalk. It looked like hell. There were people everywhere trying to get in and out of the ocean and were in these triathlete's path. These poor guys are trying to finish strong and they got 2 year old kids building sand castles right in their race path. Then the waves would crash on shore and soak the triathletes shoes....looked like pure torture. The final part was turning away from the water and then run slightly uphill in the loose dry sand to cross the finish line. I don't think I would like doing that!! I'd be like, "shit, can't I just have a normal finish!!". LOL But I guess if you sign up for the Big Kahuna triathlon you need to do your homework ahead of time and realize this is the way it goes....

Trops: My reputation precedes me.

Amy: Thanks sweetheart! And you're a smart cookie, taking care of yourself like that :hurray: A shame we can't isolate exact factors for our issues, isn't it?

M: I run very close to the water, and I've only got my shoes wet a couple times. The beach I run on is very large, and of course, the sand moves not only seasonally but daily (tee hee I remember all this shit from Oceanography class--god I love Geology) so some days it's more level, other days it's bloody difficult.

No kidding! Some Triathlons are just events I probably wouldn't enjoy--I hate swimming in cold, polluted waters--and Santa Cruz is just that (IMO). I also don't like being tickled by sea weed. Ugh! Your boyfriend is amazing!

I ate so much in the past two weeks that I'm now further from my goal! :( BUT, hormones :reddevil: screwed with me. I'm 144.5 lbs again and I'm still optimistic that after my period I'll be back down to 142-ish. I'm in a great mood, for some reason I'm feelin' Mac Dre's Life's a Bitch. I don't know why I like this negative ass song today, but maybe I just miss Mac Dreezey. RIP.

Life is short you only live once and aint no telling when your leaving
So I'm going to do it all have a ball
while I'm still living and breathing
See I am a philosopher and my philosophy is this
Don't be no punk young homey if it's worth it take that risk
Anything's possible but nothings for sure
Got to take advantage of all opportunities
and get your money you know
Love those who love you but don't never let it fuck up your vision
How much love did your loved ones
have when you was broke or doing time in prison
Stay on your toes don't fuck with hoes before you read them
Watch your back for them rats that set niggas up to keep they freedom
It takes 365 days for the earth to spin one time
But it only takes one minute
for that guilty verdict when that snitch drops that dime
A damn shame I thought rat heads get nothing but cheddar
But I got partners doing all day with 35 next to that letter
So I'm in trouble unless I bubble So I struggle to keep my peace
Staying money motivated with thoughts of Mike Robinson and D.J. Cee

Bitch
Life's a bitch
Life's a bitch and then you die

Hey lady I hear ya about the wonderful female cycle. I too will be up in weight because of it but hopefully back down to 142ish by the weekend.

Are you pumped for your race on Thursday?? I feel like I'm going to suck I haven't ran in days!!!! But tonight for sure!!!

Oooo, right there with ya on the female hormone thing. I know when its time for me to take warning, because I'm a few days to a week behind you.

Good old Sactown... I get lost there so easily.

Bleah... cold nasty outside... just want to curl up on the couch wrapped in a fuzzy blanket and read a book right now. Preferably with a steaming hot mug of coffee or tea... or a hot toddy. :biggrinjester:

Thanks for stopping by to see my "introspection". I'm working on a few things right now. What do you mean by "so hood?" Honestly, you young people with your hip vocabulary....
