Yeah, he made some great points--I liked how he used the history of our country REDEFINING concepts--for example, overturning the three-fifths clause. Hello, KNOW your American history! :smash:

Has he watched "The Secret" yet?

In my future I want to be successful in a triathlon and I also want a family. Not sure how I will get from A to B but that doesn't matter a the moment. What matters is that I am "attracting" these things into my life :)

I don't think so, we'll check it out online this evening, thanks!

Absolutely--you have excellent focus. We have to stay focused and totally visualize what we want--then make it happen!

It's worth 2hrs of your life to watch it. I tend to watch it every 6-8 months to refresh :) Simple concepts yet so many people have a hard time grasping that your happiness is within your control.

Hello my sweet VBF

I still can't believe all the running your doing, WOW! I'm sure the wee bit of ice cream you had after all that running isn't going to make a bit of difference. But I can understand what you mean when you say lately your whole heart hasn't been into running, or at least you haven't always felt the desire to want to get out there and just go to it, I've been having that same wishy-washy mood lately. One day I'm gung-ho, then next day I make myself work out, but I'm pissed the entire time because I really don't want to be doing it. It's so strange, I was always up beat about it all last year, this year it's all over the board. WOMEN it's hard some days just being one. LOL LOL

Hope your evening is a good one!
Kimmers

Trops: Interesting dialog. I like the "I've seen so much hardcore pornography in my day, nothing bothers me anymore." LOL The sham wedding idea is a very prominent argument, and I like that.

Kimmers: I'm glad you feel me on the attitude adjustments, I guess we can't ALL be gung-ho about things, ALL the time, right?

Ate too much again yesterday!

BUT I figured out why--the point in my cycle. Around Day 20 I start to get hungrier. This is no excuse, it's just that now I can watch myself better and understand, hey, it's hormones :) LOL!

I joined the 135 or Bust challenge, and I truly want to make this happen. I forgot to take my damn measurements last night :banghead:. I couldn't weigh myself this morning because I was at the L.T.F.B.'s house. Hmmm, I should make an alias for him--I'll call him Thomas. HAHA! No where near his name, and I don't really know anyone with that name.

So I went to Chris's, and helped him clean up his room. Revenge of the Nerds was on TV when we were cleaning, and he likes that movie, but I was shocked because I hadn't seen it in 20 years or something, and WOW is there a lot of female nudity  Yuck! LOL!!! Anyway, I don't think I expended SO much energy over there--I had fried shrimp and 2 beers and a mochi ball ice cream (just 1) for dinner--not too healthy, Valerie! :smash: This will change today! Chris had remounted the scope on my BLR (Browning Lever Rifle) .308, so that it's not loose and the bracket is turned the right way. He's going to sight it, later. He also showed me exactly how his Springfield single action 1911 pistol works, because I had trouble with it when we went shooting last Sunday. He went through the cycling of the rounds and how it differs from a double action, and why cops use the double action pistols instead, blah blah blah. We also watched a movie--a horror movie, The Strangers, with Liv Tyler. Must have gone straight to DVD or something, but it actually wasn't bad. Um, another thing you might not know about me--I'm a horror movie connoisseur. The best horror movie of all time is also the WORST horror movie of all time, and it's a New Zealand flick called Dead Alive. Most hilarious horror movie of all time, too. You want to argue with me? I'll explain point by point why and how it is these three things :D Anyway, Chris and I spent the majority of the movie talking about survival skills, defense/offense moves, and tactical awareness. Basically, what was the best thing to do in that situation. LOL!

"Thomas" is......so amazing......WOW :svengo: Good god it is nice to be touched again, fuck I missed it  We have good conversations, too--I tripped out a little bit because if a stranger were to see us on the couch, cuddling and talking about his work day and how stressful it is, s/he would SWEAR we were BF & GF. Anyway, yup, still knows what he's doing, skilled as ever, best Os ever--man! :willy_nilly: A good deal, twice a week, methinks. :biggrinjester:

So I dunno my weight or measurements, but I DO know that I have kickboxing today and Yoga 2, so it will be an active day to say the least. I have LOTS of work to do so I might not make it around today, but if something is going on, please let me know, here! :D

Here's a review on The Strangers that I liked only because of the sentence I made red, made me laugh, haha!

Even though I knew The Strangers was very similar to Them (Ils), I still watched the latter knowing I was going to see the former in a few days. So knowing that, I think it’s even MORE surprising that I didn’t just like The Strangers, but liked it more than Them. Granted, some of the structuring was a bit less exciting than it might have been, but the differences were all for the better.

For starters, they don’t leave the house. Them really lost a lot of its tension when they went out into the open and into the sewers. I am afraid of being killed in my home, but not the sewer, because I’m never going to go in there unless I’m drunk and looking for Turtles or Barry Otto. Incidentally, the one time in Strangers that I felt myself relaxing was when they head out to their shed. Not that it’s a bad sequence, but the tension when they are inside the house is nearly unbearable at times, whereas the shed sequence seems a bit standard.

A big part of that is due to the fact that the house is rather small. It’s only one floor, so you know they can’t exactly back into a corner in the attic and be safe, because the killer might be walking around on the outside; a strong swing of an axe away. There are also only like four or five rooms, which limits hiding spots. Of course, there’s a trade off – without a lot of options, they need to find ways to keep the characters moving around, some of which are a bit clichéd (like the shed – they are going out there to use an old CB radio), but never flat out idiotic, which is good.

Interestingly enough, the film has a flashback which I think is just there to flesh out the running time, because it’s really not needed. I guess it’s nice to see the couple completely happy (they are on the verge of breaking up because she has just turned down his marriage proposal), but the cause of their issue is nicely (subtly) revealed before the flashback anyway. But since the movie is only 80 minutes with credits, I am guessing that people are already going to be pretty pissed off that even with trailers and such they aren’t even use up their whole two hour parking validation, so making it even shorter by cutting the sequence would make matters worse. Me, I like short films – better a 75 minute movie with a flawless pace than an 85 minute one with 10 worthless minutes.

The reason that the film is so short is that it’s simple. The poster pretty much gives away all the motive the film ever offers (they were home), and there are no dumb twists or tension-breaking backstory to flesh out either the heroes or the villains. You might have spotted a shot of Scott Speedman (hey pal, stick to stuff like this, not Underworld) being called a killer via blood on a mirror [the critic is wrong here, it's clearly lipstick--because 2 killers are female] – don’t worry, it’s not a hint about his past or anything. It’s a movie about a couple being terrorized in their own home, and that’s it. Like my beloved Halloween, it’s the simplicity of the film that makes it work so well.

Does it work AS well? Well, no, of course not. There are a couple minor issues. One is the rather laughable opening narration, which tells us some statistics about violent crimes, and of course, that this film was based on true events. He also tells us that to this day, no one knows what happened in the house, which sort of spoils the ending (though this works to the film’s credit – if you think they are going to die, it becomes a guessing game of WHEN, as opposed to knowing perfectly well that they will live), but once the film concludes, one might take issue with this (highlight to read): One of them lives. Why doesn’t anyone know what happened if there is a survivor?

You may have noticed that Liv Tyler is the only one on two of the film’s three posters (I think this is the first film to have three posters all taken directly from the film itself). That’s because Speedman is absent for two large chunks of the film (he goes to get some smokes for like 15 min, and then is knocked out and hidden somewhere for another 15 later on). It’s all Tyler most of the time, which is fine by me, since she’s one of the most naturally beautiful actresses in ages. She (and Speedman, more or less) look like regular people, not movie stars, which adds to the film’s realism. Angelina and Brad would be impossible to believe in this situation, but not in Tyler’s case. And that’s even more impressive when you consider that she co-stars in my 2nd favorite movie of all time, a film without as much as a minute of anything resembling real life. So between that and her starring in a film with heavy Halloween influences (some of the subtle reveals of the killers are like the one in Halloween where Michael just sort of fades into view), she is now my de facto favorite actress.

The film’s writer/director, Bryan Bertino, has also shot an incredibly good looking film as well. Other than the cell phones and things of that nature, this film could easily be a well preserved relic from 1975 or so. No tripods, lots of rack focus shots, deliberate pacing, even the overall look of the film (particularly the final, day set scenes) remind me of all my favorites from the era: Halloween, Chain Saw, etc. Rogue better put this on Blu-Ray or there will be hell to pay! And hopefully Bertino gets another film soon, hopefully one that won’t be compared to an ultimately inferior (but still “first”) film.

One last note about the Them comparisons: (highlight for spoilers for both films) In Them the killers were young kids. Here, it’s suggested that they are young (we never really see any of the killer’s faces, but from the sides of their face and their overall size it is fairly clear that they are much younger than our heroes anyway), but never really spelled out. To me this was great, but I’m curious what you guys think – would you rather they had more explanation as to how old they were, why they were doing what they did, etc?

Goddamn you people, go see this movie. Ruins, Doomsday... no one went. Midnight Meat Train is looking at a limited release, and dog knows if Repo will even get that much. Why? I have no idea. Make up for it and go see The Strangers. I don’t care if movies are expensive and people are on their cell phones the whole time – we need to support stuff like this to ensure both the type of film and the people making them aren’t extinct in favor of remakes and kids horror. I also invite you to read this article by my good friend Uncle Creepy at Dread Central, which addresses many of the same concerns.

Hah! Love the review, who's the writer?

This Prop 8 thing makes me sick. Where do people get off thinking they have any right to deny such a right as marriage. A person I know who is a hypocritical Bible-thumper tried to argue with me on the issue. He says it's all about the sanctity of marriage. Are you fucking kidding me? Look at the divorce rates in this damn country. There is NO sanctity in marriage anymore. Then I reminded him that he was on his THIRD marriage. Stupid bigot. I don't get this. We don't butt into other's lives and deny them rights based on their lifestyle, so why do it with this? Here in AR, not only is gay marriage banned, but they just passed a law to ban unmarried couples from adopting or fostering children. WTF?

This whole mess hits a sore spot with me. I was very close with my uncle and I grew up seeing the hell he went through for being gay. He was such an amazing person and is responsible for the person I have become. He had such compassion and love for others even when they were condemning him. He died when I was 16 from AIDS. I remember punching the shit out of some stupid girl at church for saying he got AIDS as a punishment from God. Why the hell do these ignorant religious zealots get away with being such a waste of oxygen? They have no right to judge or intervene in these peoples' lives. It disgusts me... I truly hope the ban gets overturned and the rest of the country follows suit. To the states that allow gay marriage, GOOD FOR YOU!

Looks like someone's blog at Blogspot!

I am so sorry to hear about your Uncle. Sexual preference is no one's business, and has no place for review UNLESS in a comedian's stand up. Sorry! I love comedy :)

Hey Girlie :)

Glad to hear you had a fun time bumpin' uglies with Thomas again last night ;) Us and our celibacies, what the hell were we thinking? lol... JK :coolgleamA:

I, myself, love horror movies as well. I've heard about Dead Alive and seen clips too I think... I was actually thinking about it the other day because I want to watch it. It looks really funny and I hear it's kind of a cult classic in the horror movie community.

I still haven't seen The Strangers. I've heard mixed reviews on it from friends I have who have seen it, so I just haven't watched it yet. Getting killed in my own house is actually a semi-fear of mine. I like Liv Tyler in most of her movies. The dollface-girl-killer in The Strangers is actually supermodel Gemma Ward, and sure she can sashay her ass down a runway like no one's business, but can she act I ask myself??? I will have to eventually watch it for sure.

One scary movie I watched a couple years ago was called Wolf Creek... It takes place with in the Australian outback and imo, is quite scary. Movies don't scare me too often but some do, or more like "disturb" me in a way. I saw Wolf Creek at the theatres and thought it was going to be something completely different, so I think that has something to do with it....

Was that the one when the three people get a tow from the "mechanic" and end up being drugged? If so, that was a good movie! Anything that could actually happen seems to be a scarier movie IMO. :)

I absolutely want to joke, but I can't help but be serious here: Celibacy served its purpose. I'm glad I did it. I'm also glad to be intimate with "Thomas" again :) Life is good, it's nice to feel like you have things figured out FOR NOW. He's interesting in a lot of ways, but one thing I find cute is that he's also a foreman for a large construction company (that's his dad's, someday going to be his) and gets to be the Big Boss and yell at people when they fuck up. But he's so mellow and sweet away from work, it's weird for me to comprehend.

Interesting. They never show her face, or even much of her body. I could even play the part, no problem! ;)

I've GOT to see it then!

I'm not a big horror fan, but I do like a good one from time to time. A friend of mine was in the original Dawn of the Dead as the zombie that gets his head chopped off by a helocopter. He does the horror circuit and signs pictures and stuff.
