Crunches -vs- Ab Machines

What do you believe is better for you and your body? Machine style ab workouts or simple cruches and other non machine exercises?

I would say something that involves compound movement, like a swiss ball crunch, or hanging crunches (you hang upside-down on a bar, holding on with your legs, and crunch as far up as you can).

Pretty much any serious lifter will tell you that machines are no good, because isolated muscle movement isn't a natural motion for your body. Me personally, I've been off the machines for close to a year now, I haven't touched one since, and I sure haven't looked back.

I don't know why you have put a link just below your question or whether this is allowed but have you heard of the spot-reduction myth?
