Crossbow/Bowflex

If bowflex were that great then they would be in gyms.
Here you say that if it's that great it would be in a gym, I don't know what gym you go to but the gyms I've been to are chock full of........you got it.... MACHINES! So they must be good for something according to your criteria. But you say machines are "rubish"? I love using free weights, but I don't have a problem using a machine that could help with my goals. And they can. When I was going to the gym I didn't see anyone afraid to use a machine, even bodybuilders! They didn't look like they were suffering from it. Even the most hardcore iron guy uses cable machines and thats what the BF is, a very versatile cable machine.

I just happened to try something different and found it to work very well. And as I said before, I am looking to get a set of powerblocks to add even more variety to my workouts, because I can see the benefits of both. And isn't that guy in your avatar Chuck Norris? Doesn't he use and endorse the Total Gym MACHINE in those INFOMMERCIALS?

I have used freeweights in the past and I think they suck.
When a post starts off like this You can pretty much guarantee that the rest of the post will be utter crap. So I'mnot gonna bother reading the rest of it.

Dude your getting really desperate now.

The only reason you have machines in gyms is cos they are safe to use, and easy for begginers. It would be much better for everyone to use free weights from the start, But to make a quick buck, gyms will have machines to attract members and save on staff.
Many new gym users just want to get on with what they think is best and not be bothered by staff.

So I suppose the only way machines and bowflexi are better than free weights is that they make more money by attracting members.

Do you even read my posts? I see many experienced and huge bodybuilders and strength trainers on machines all the time, and I'm sure it's not just at my gym. And again, when did I ever say machines and Bowflex are "better" than free weights?

Of course people endorse products for money, but after ten years of endorsing the Total Gym, don't you think they would hire someone else if he never really used it and it was just collecting dust in the corner of his bedroom?

No, I've just taken the blinders off and realize there are lots of good tools out there that are helpfull in our desire to get in shape, gain mass, strength or whatever we want. Your arguing that there's only one....free weights, and anything else is "rubish". Pretty narrow minded if you ask me. Do you think I didn't know that if I told the guy that started this thread that the Bowflex was an excellent machine, that I wouldn't get into this long drawn out debate with a free weight guy? Am I just to keep quiet unless I'm talking about the virtues of free weights on this site? After all, this is the world fitness forum, not the free weights only forum.

I think people following this thread will be able to make up there own minds.:)

Most people on this fitness forum already know whats best.

Dont try to make me out to be a muscle head. And I'm not saying there is no place for bowflex. Bowflex can be usefull nut it will never never be as effective as free weights.

Its supposed to be a great alternative to free weights, but it takes up more room, its crazy expensive and they make people believe its a magic machine. There are more than just strength and size benifits to free weights. You learn balence, posture, stability under massive force, heavy lifting motions all these things are just as important as strength.
If you just workout on the bowflex you may end up big and strong, but you wont get any of the other benifits.

It takes up less room than a bench and a stack of plates because it folds up, I would have gone that route if I had the space for all that and a lat tower and a power rack and all the equipment I would have to buy to do the same exercises I did at the gym and can do on the BF. You do have to balance the weight. It is expensive, don't buy it if you don't have the money. And why would I bother paying for a gym membership if all I was using was free weights? I mean it takes up so little space and is so cheap, I would buy a bench, plates and bars and do it at home. And yes, everyone selling anything markets it as if it's the best thing since sliced bread. but the guy at the beginning of this post said he has access to one and thats what we are talking about here.
Nobody is making you out to be anything more than you say you are in your posts.
And, by the way, I noticed you changed your avatar, and you banned Bobsk8? Are you going to ban me and delete my posts too because I don't agree with you on everything here?

Doesn't this AT HOME forum say "share info on the best and worst home fitness videos and at-home equipment"? I'm simply sharing info on something that I think is one of the best I have used in my 30 yrs of weight training.
