Creatine Question

Today I bought a bottle of Creatine Monohydrate and I am a little confused on the way I should be taking it with my specific goals in mind.

I am playing soccer currently for my university and I want to know if adding a 3g to 5g pre game shake of Creatine Monohydrate would contribute to my energy on the field?

I don't plan on using the Creatine everyday; most likely a few times a week before or after workouts or soccer.

My goal is not to use the Creatine Monohydrate for muscle building, but for the energy. I have protein for that cause.

Thanks

Creatine actually needs to be taken every day for the best results. It's a long-term supplement, so effects won't show right away. Thus, it doesn't matter when you take it, or on what side of your workout.

Generally, people who take creatine go through a loading phase in order to bring their phosphcreatine levels in their muscles up to an elevated level. (20g/day or 0.30g/kg body weight/day for 3-5 days.) After that, there's a maintenance phase just to keep those levels up without overloading. (3-5g/day or 0.03g/kg body weight/day for several weeks.) After a while, people will also stop taking creatine to correlate with a rest period in their training or activity.

You should note that creatine won't increase your overall energy levels. What it does is increase the rate of energy turnover in your muscles, so when you're going all-out, it will give you more time before lactic acid begins to build up.
