creatine in Maintaining muscle

ive read about how creatine cannot and will not help in trying to lose fat. but i was wondering on whether creatine will make a good difference in maintaining muscle while trying to lose weight...if thats not possible, then what about taking creatine to try and gain muscle but not necessarily while eating a bulking diet, rather somewhere between a calorie intake for weight loss and weight maintinging...
