Countdown to Competition

yes I have used a heart rate monitor in class, well i did untill hubby took it to use when he is running on the treadmill, for me it is about 600 - 700 calories in a class. it deends on how i feel and how i am able to push myself.

It is now Sunday evening, Today went well, rather than eating to junk on offer as usual eg, wafer biscuits, wiz fiz, and other assorted sweets I had a bag of mixed unsalted nuts and dried fruit and restricted myself to my one coke for the week. Instead of pizza for lunch I had some skinless chicken. Tonight i will have a roast potato with a bit of lite sour cream and no butter.

Tomorrow morning it is Squat day at the gym with the goal of increasing my PB for squat to 110 kg (242.5 lb) after having a good two days rest and recovery for my muscles.

Tomorrow i will also be filling in the forms for the Powerlifting federation, On friday I have a doctors appointment to get a Theraputic Use Exemption form filled out for my Asthma medication because it is on the banned substances list and from the time my form goes in i will be subject to random drug testing.

My weekly roleplaying session seems to kick my butt too. Add in some really good imported beer and a player's wife who doesn't play, but always bakes and I come up with one of the biggest current detriments to my own diet. Thanks for stopping by my diary with some very useful information.

Thanks cannon for dropping in, no beer at my games because they are at a local store but when I held the games at home it was even worse

I found you!

That's a ton of squats!! Are you able to walk up or down stairs after that? I'm not sure how much I can squat but I'm interested to find out :).

So, do you get any strange looks from the guys at your gym because you're not doing the typical "girly" stuff?

lol the guys are fine but I do get some strange looks from some of the ladies, especially if i workout during ladies hour.

the gym i go to is realy good and realy encourages the ladies to lift weights, part of gym membership includes weight programs customised to your goals and fitness levels along with regular measurements and fitness checks. My husband is having the "works" checked on friday including doing a beep test. my last check i lost 6 cm of my waist and butt along with 4 cm of my hips. that was 2 weeks ago.

The gym also trains kickboxers and martial artists for competition as well as teaching people to become personal trainers.

I don't feel much soreness after a squat day at the gym but i have been lifting heavy now for about 2.5 years and you muscles do adapt.

You're terrific, it's nice to hear about what you do at the gym. TONS apparently. Good for you, and I love it that you and your husband go to the gym together ;)

I just finished a chest workout this afternoon at the gym

Warmup : 5 minutes rowing machine

Benchpress 3 X 10 @ 45 kg (99lb)

My coach got me to do a further 3 sets lifting the same weight but only as far as 2 inches from my chest to help get me over my sticking point at the bottom of the lift. I think my upper body will ache tomorrow.

Incline DB Benchpress

3 X 10 @ 17.5 kg (38.5 lb)

Assisted chinups X 10

Tricep extensions 30 kg (66 lb)

Bicep Curls 3 X 10 @ 9kg (20 lb)

Tonights meal consisted of

Wholemeal Lebenese bread
Hummus
Tabouli
2 skinless chicken thigh fillets lightly cooked in a nonstick pan with no oil
chopped tomato, spring onion, capsicum and parsley
600 ml Water

Your gym sounds really cool. What's it doing way out in a rural area like that? I'm glad you have it. You are obviously taking full advantage of it.

the gym isn't big or fancy but it is fully equiped with the esentials and most important of all Great Staff. There is no extra stuff like pool, spa, sauna etc but who needs a sauna in the sub tropics :)

nope..not giving up diet pepsi

I do not understand how diet pepsi is supposed to hinder weight loss. Feel free to enlighten me if you want. I don't drink much. Not even daily. Thanks for the feedback!
P.S. LOVE AUSTRALIA! Wish I could visit your country some day.

Trusylver, I've talked things over with Steve and I found a gym with free weights where I can do a program that resembles your type of workout and not a 75 year old heart patient's workout. I think that's probably a good thing. I'm going to stay at my current gym until I get back from my trip next week and then sign up at the new place. Thanks for your advice because it helped encourage me to make the jump.

As far as Diet Pepsi goes I'd love to hear the science behind it. I do drink it when I am out, but one of the major changes I made 83 pounds ago was to stop drinking diet soda and get a home water cooler. I drink a lot more water than I used to and I never drink diet soda at home now.

More Diet Drinks, More Weight Gain

Fowler's team looked at seven to eight years of data on 1,550 Mexican-American and non-Hispanic white Americans aged 25 to 64. Of the 622 study participants who were of normal weight at the beginning of the study, about a third became overweight or obese.

For regular soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese was:
26% for up to 1/2 can each day
30.4% for 1/2 to one can each day
32.8% for 1 to 2 cans each day
47.2% for more than 2 cans each day.

For diet soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese was:
36.5% for up to 1/2 can each day
37.5% for 1/2 to one can each day
54.5% for 1 to 2 cans each day
57.1% for more than 2 cans each day.

For each can of diet soft drink consumed each day, a person's risk of obesity went up 41%.

"People think they can just fool the body. But maybe the body isn't fooled," she says. "If you are not giving your body those calories you promised it, maybe your body will retaliate by wanting more calories. Some soft drink studies do suggest that diet drinks stimulate appetite."

Hey I wanted to say that I found your other journal the other day and I loved reading it, you had posted a picture of the sunset and the view from your home, and you live in a beautiful place. My dream climate :) and location. You seem like an awesome mom and wife, it's great that you take care of yourself in between all of that. I think it's super cool :) I hope you're having a nice night, or morning or afternoon. I get confused with all of the different timeszones. Thanks for all of your words as well.

Thanks lukewarm, thats a lot of reading in my old diary lol. It feels good to be able to help others.

This afternoon I ate a kabab (lebenese bread, chicken, homus, tabouli, lettuce, cheese, HOT chilli sauce:flame: and an OJ

I have RPM (spin) class tonight at 7:30 but I might go in a bit early to do some more weights. I am determined to get past the sticking point at the bottom of my benchpress, I feel strong on the rest of the lift and feel i could go a lot higher one I sort out my sticking point.

I also need to work more on the top of the deadlift (ie. getting my shoulders back far enough for comp legal lifts ) I can DL 115 kg (253.5 lb) comp legal but 120 kg (264.5 lb) as not quite legal and feel I can get up to 130kg (285 lb) or more.

I will be competeing in a drug free federation and a limited selection of lifting gear is allowed but at the moment all my values are RAW (no lifting aids) but would like to buy a bench shirt when i can afford one.

Wow, thanks for posting the article on diet soda! Holy toledo!!! I really needed to see that, I really did. I drink 1-2 cans a day. No wonder I am blowing up like a balloon!!!

Yikes!

Wow... I knew there was something wrong with diet drinks. I'm glad I don't drink them. I've been trying to convince all my friends to switch to something healthier but thats almost impossible without coming across as "holier than thou". :\

My boyfriends mother drinks diet soda like she's constantly trying to replenish her body's supply of artificial sweeteners.. Its scary. Then... of course last weekend after having one of her diet drinks, she sat down and ate 1/3 of the chocolate cake she had just made. Amazing.... hahah

Thanks for stopping by my journal.

The article about the diet soda is really interesting. I have stopped drinking it mostly but I'm going to try and stay away all together now.

After reading luke's post I found your old journal and looked at the picture that was mentioned it was breathtaking... when I get a chance I'm going to read through it.
