Consecutive days split

My weights programme is currently a 3 day split routine. Day 1 is chest and triceps, day 2 is back and biceps and day 3 is legs and shoulders.

It would make my life a lot easier if I were to do these on 3 consecutive days, leaving the rest of the week for cardio days and rest days. Are there any reasons why I shouldn't?

yeah the rest/growing period. if u workout at a semi hard/intense rate which u should be doing ur body should feel a bit sore the next day. when ur work out u shouldn't let yesturdays pain interrupt ur workout, thus, the rest day. not to mention ur body grows during ur recovery period.

i like to go
back-bi,abs (10-15mins running at the end)
chest-tri(10-15min running at the end)
rest
leg-shoulder,abs
rest
cardio full day (abs optional)
have another rest day or repeat to day1 if i feel okay

yea you should rest inbetween.

if you do 3 days in a row like you said, that will be too much lifting followed by too much rest.

Actually i just read an article on this (trying to find it) where it stated that lifters (been lifting over a period of 6 months) could benefit from a program of back to back training with extended rest. People even take it much further with Periodization programs up to 10 days with only 2 days rest. But of course that is a track set of different programs meant to be kept for short periods at a time only. Here is a quote from another article...

A advanced schedule is to train your entire body over the course of 3 days, training different body parts each day, and then taking 4 days off. This "3-On, 4-Off" routine gives each muscle group 96 hours for rest and growth. It's great for bringing out the shape and hardness of your muscles.

I've had to many Bloody Marys to start looking for proof but the body needs recovery. Even if you're doing chest on day 1 and back on day 2, the body isn't fully recovering because you're pushing it the following day.

I think you'd be best to do a 2 day on, 1 day off, 1 day on, the rest of the week off.

Glycogen storage depletion seems to be hot topic in some circles when doing multiple days of lifting but that's debatable.

But in the end it ends up what is most reasonable and realistic for you.
