compatible muscle groups

Hello, i'm trying to start a new workout routine and i was wondering which parts of the body should be worked together on the same day. Thanks.

I use a split routine a lot of the time and I use pulls/legs and push/stomach splits.

So I work the legs, back, bi's on one day, and chest, shoulders, tris, abs on other days.

You can do whatever you want though depending on what exercises you do. I would figure out what exercises you're going to use, and then split depending on that. For instance if you were doing a push press, then my split wouldn't work for you. And since I do a lot of cleans, that's the exercise that really dictates how my routine is split.

But you're going to have a tough time not working out your tris when you work out your chest, and a tough time not working out your bis when working out your back.. so those are muscle groups you'll want to keep together pretty much all time.

Yup, what Muck said. I base my routine around movements rather than specific bodyparts.

there's so many varieties...push/pull/leg, upper/lower, fullbody, split bodypart stuff, etc

Darnit, my style is pretty primative then.

I partially base it on the antogonistic muscles, or whatever.

I do Biceps, Pectorals, and Back today.
I do Tricpes, shoulders, and Abdominals the next.
And finally Lower body and cardio.

I'ma push/pull/legs kinda guy..

There's also periodization, but that's a little different..

Mreik, do you change up the exercises for push/pull? I tried doing push/pull a while back, except legs had their own day, anyway, I felt like it took too long and I was doing different exercises.

With the push day, chest, shoulder, tri stuff for example, it just took too long. How have you been splitting it up?

Sorry about hi-jacking the thread, everyone pretty much said everything already.
