College girl in need of some help...

Hey everybody.. This is my first posting and I want to say thanks in advance for y'alls help! OK, so here's the situation. I'm 19 and in my second year of college, and eating the nasty cafeteria food. I swam competitively all four years of high school, but my college is full of punks and they closed our pool so I can't swim. So now I have to settle for stupid eliptical machines for cardio and weights are necessary (which they never were before). My boyfriend has been bugging me for quite some time to start drinking protein shakes (mostly because I am hungry ALL THE TIME). The only problem I have is the clumpiness. Maybe it's just me? but drinks just shouldn't be lumpy. That, and the taste isn't the best. (BTW, I've been using the GNC brand Mega Whey in Vanilla.) First question is does anyone have any suggestions as to making this stuff less clumpy? Also, what about things to add in with it like in a blender? As a side note, the boyfriend also suggested thinking about creatine but his roommate said it's not good for "chicks." Thanks again so much!

A handheld blender will get rid of all the clumps in protien shakes (I use mine 2-3 times a day). GNC protien is really overpriced garbage (not your fault, most of us used GNC when we first started). I recommend Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Protien, it comes in many different flavors. There are many things you can add to protien shakes, like bananas, strawberries, peanut butter, most fruits. Hope this helps. Goodluck
I really don't know if it's ok for girls to drink creatine, I don't see how it could hurt them. I'll let a female answer that one.

i like "the boyfriend" part :D

i agree with P79, a blender and some added fruit will do you fine. ON is a good brand also. personally if it doesnt mix just by shaking it in a shaker cup i dont bother with it. ON, dymatize and eas all did fine with me with no clumps.

as for creatine and women i found this

The general belief has tended to be that creatine monohydrate is a "muscle builder" and is thus appropriate for men only. But is this true?

Recent research has found that women can benefit from creatine monohydrate, without becoming "muscle bound" or masculine.

Scientists in Virginia, USA, conducted a study and found that creatine monohydrate powder improves muscle performance in women without significant gains in muscle volume or body weight.

This amazing supplement continues to push the envelope of science and understanding.

but also remember its really not needed to see results. ;)

if you're hungry - or just think you're hungry - you could do a lot better than shakes - get something chewy - apples, carrots, cut up red pepper, and eat them. you can keep oatmeal packets in your dorm room as well as raisins, rice cakes, and so many other things.

when i was in school i used to eat a carbo type breakfast and take a yogurt with me for later. i truly do not remember what lunch was, but i surely ate chicken and something with it - salad problably - at night, i had a toaster oven and a burner and i did just fine.

i think i ate lots of noodles, cheese, and ice cream at night, and that's what my weight gain was from, but i lost it after i started working full time.

good luck!

if your using a shake to keep you full you might want to try casein instead of whey and you can add a packet of sweet-n-low for taste if you don't go the fruit route, the others are going to say that would be a bad idea but it makes almost NO difference in anyway, shape or form. I use a blender or you can buy a shaker bottle that cost 1-3 dollars at any fittness place.
