Sorry one quick question I know everyone looses at different rates on average - how much on average do you loose per week (not including week 1)? - Just trying to plan a rough goal date - hopefully in time for my 30th birthday !

Hello and welcome to the best forum for encouragement and support for those doing the the Cohen diet...Well done on making it thorugh the first week - again!!! It is crazy that you couldn't get your money back from your first attempt on the diet...I'm guessing that not even death would allow a refund!

And the answer to your question...I have lost 32.5kg in 16 weeks, so that works out to a little tiny bit over 2kg per week. My first 2 months were great, 9.5 and 8.4 respectively. Then my loose dropped down to 6.5 in my third month. Don't have a clue why...no deviations, 4 litres of water everyday without fail. I still have no idea why it dropped in the third month. My last weigh-in was better though...just as well or I would have been really peeved!

less of me: Well done, 32.5kg in 16 weeks sounds awesome! I'm aiming for 2kg a week to be down to 60kg by my birthday in December. Well done!

I spoke to my consultant at my *new* clinic (Booragoon) today. I asked about the artificial sweetner. She confirmed that the Equal was a no-no, but said that I could have either the Hermastes or Sugarine. Pill or powder is fine for either.

Btw...I hit 10kg today! woohoo. Took almost 5 weeks, but its finally gone. :D

Have a great night everyone.

Hello to all!!

Well just a quick post to everyone... great to see sooo many tickers movine in the right direction... My hubby and i have been on this program for 9 weeks and so far on a weekly scale i am currently loosing 2kg a week but hubby has lost an amazing 2.8-3kg so it really does depend on the individual. Yes i know men loose quicker but hey i am so envious!!! :)

I am feeling better in myself today and i only have 3 more kg's to go before i reach a mini goal of mine... this is what i weighed 6 yesars ago when i was 18 so i know i am getting there!!!!!

To everyone starting... know that this IS the last lifestyle change you will ever have to make and to everyone reading this who has douts... know we all had our doubts and i myself was very scepticle, but hey look at our tickers and just beleive in yourselves!!! It is worth it and the effort speaks volumes in how you feel and look... please please do this for yourselves and your health... and know we are all here for you ...

Goodluck and make the most out of your food choices!!!!!

i have a question. does anyone have gassy stomach after eating fruit? I have this problem. I tot it was because I eat my fruit with my meals so I separate them 30min in between. After I eat my cohen meal, my stomach is still ok but the moment I eat fruit and 1 hr later, my stomach still getting bloated and i have small farts on and off (sorry for being gross). I tried different fruits, papaya, kiwi, peach and honey dew and all the same.

Nausea waves

I have been awake for what seems like days but i have had about 2-3 hrs since Friday morning. Had a rough night with the loo issue Fri night and still up tonight. I resorted to a sleeping pill tonight as i want to stay on the wagon and not go mad on sugar.

I have had this horrible nausea feeling for the last couple days (prob 3 days) and i feel like i have lost strength. It comes in waves. I just had an orange and feel a lil better. I have been eating what i am supposed to and nothing i shouldnt have so???? Mum thinks it might be the detox process and all the crap being removed from me. I dont know. Im def not pregnant so thats at least ruled out! Im concerned im going to get worse and fall off the wagon. I will try not to stress. I prob just lack sleep. Will c and if gets worse, see GP. Im due for surgery so i need to be well for that.

Hope all are well and keeping the trends going.

sugar and carb cravings

Hi everyone. I am really struggling with cravings this weekend. I soooooo don't want to break again! I am resisting but its very hard and I am just feeling like its a tough thing to do . However I am doing it and thats a change. I normally don't even try very hard to resist. My weight loss for last two months has been dismal because I keep gaining and then having to lose all over again. I really want that to stop.

Don't worry, I am not falling off this wagon again I am sick of bruising my backside and banging my head! I hereby guarantee that there will be an new number on my deviation free days score tonight. I need you all to send me positive vibes please. I am determined that I will reach refeed and although it is now likely to be longer than my score board says, I don't want it to vary too much.

This stuff about Carbs stimulating appertite is spot on. The last 3 days of the refeed I have had a piece of toast with my breakfast and have been really hungry by about 10.30am (i.e. yesterday was hungry enough to blow 3 months of no intentional deviations and pig out)The post cohen's guidelines say to avoid carbs for breakfast as it will make you hungry by mid morning...I handled it, but only just!!!, by eating two pieces of fruit, 2 crackers, a big cup of black coffee and water!!! Today I skipped the toast and all was so easy right thru til lunch...A co-incidence??? probably not....

This is a big one for me to take away from this experience -and let me have some control over hunger via timing/and food selection - won't forget that one. From now on it will be a bread free breakfast for me!!

Day 5 of refeed and I still haven't gained weight. In fact am down by a total of 600gms to 58.7kg from when I began the refeed.

Hang in there everyone, food is ahead!!!!!!!!!!!!

newbie again

hi to everyone. THis is my first post, ever, in a forum such as this. I was on Cohen's last year and lost 22kgs over 5 months. I went on refeed 4kgs from top end of goal weight (at 60kg, cohen's weight range was 53-56) as I was going on an extended holiday. I've gained 6kg over last 7 months, so wanting to recommence Cohens and lose this, plus go a little lower than 60kg. However, I have some questions someone might be able to answer. When I was on Cohens last time, I noticed that I lost quite a lot of hair, noticeable when shampooing my dark hair in the white shower recess. It's abated a little now, but still a noticeable loss each time. Has anyone else experienced this and if yes, what's the solution. Secondly, I've always been an avid gym goer (not a junkie, just a balanced programme). However, I stopped this when starting Cohens and started again about 4 months ago. This time on Cohens, however, I want to continue. Has anyone else continued with an exercise program (over a week: 2 - 3 pump classes, 2 step classes and generally a walk each morning). How did they find this went with the small amounts of food on cohens? Thanks for any info.

useful website

I just found a good website which explains a lot about sugar and carb cravings. I have included the link for it here.

There is also a handy table talking about hwat your body really needs if it craves certain foods.

Hints for not skpping meals

Hi all. I had a lazy day and when i got up (running late) i had missed breakfast and i then in the rush of getting ready and going, i missed lunch. I grabbed bottle of water/diet coke and left. Went to music lesson and went to next appointment. I got to eat an apple at about 4.30pm and had a cup of coffee and a green tea and bottle of water on the way home at 7.30pm. I just had dinner and eat the proper things. I have missed a few meals- largely cos i wake up not hungry and its nauseating to think to eat in that state. I know this wont help me to lose weight but i dont know how to get around it. I almost need someone to pul me into line- physically. Does anyone live on their own and find getting up or into the 'zone' difficult. Im very happy to eat it once ready but its actually preparing it is the arduos task and on ur own, it doest affect others.

Well, a piece of fruit and cracker before bed should suffice till the morning and i am going to have to get up in the morn and refocus the process. I just have to have a reason and gd night sleep. It is now i wish i actually shared a place rather then have own place. I thort it wld be better as i could have own space and not answer to anyone else- its tru but there are certain things wld be 'better' if others around. ANyway, im closing off and hopefuly i wil mend my bad ways tomorrow.

Hi ALL. Thanks for all the interesting posts. Welcome to all the newies.

There has been some discussion recenlty about diet soft drinks. I can not quote where I got this information because I have forgotten but it did make sense. While diet drinks do not contain sugar the brain can not distinguish the difference between sugar and artificaial sweetners and it sends the same messages to the body. I understand that the organs respond differently because its not real sugar but the brains reaction might be a contributing reason as to why so many are having sugar cravings. If anyone has a medical background maybe you can help here. Meanwhile it may help those with sugar cravings to stay of the artificial sweetners and see if it makes a difference. I dont drink them, I use to be the person that could taste the difference between states when I drank "real" coke (which was about the only thing I use to drink) I can not drink diet anything the taste of chemicals is overpowering. There have been many studies that conclude these chemicals maybe harmful to your health, SO water it is, also found a green tea called white tea jasmin flavoured it is really nice.

The Old Me: Lots of positive vibes to you. Thanks for the link it was very interesting. I have subscribed.
Arowan: Can you have oats or museli on refeed. If you have had them has the reaction been the same as bread.
BabyeggThe first three days were the worst for me but after that my body started to sort itself out ( but I used no artificial sweetners) I have not eaten out in five weeks ( if not on the programme would have had atleast 20 meals out) as I do not feel I can do this without deviating. I am working up to it. Congratulations on your food and drink choices, it was a tought way to start.
DeDe23You may want to try spreading your fruit out over the day so you dont spike your blood sugar levels. Maybe cut you orange into 6 pieces and have it over two hours, this may help even out the highs and lows.I dont live alone but do not do mornings well. I found breakfast on Cohens the most challenging meal. What i did to overcome it was hard boil three eggs at a time and put them in the fridge. I would then have tomatoe as my vegetable and one cracker. This was very quick. I have since put more effort in and have more interesting things ( if you can call whiting and brussel sprouts for breakfast interesting) The key is to be organized in advance. Maybe take water vitamins and cracker to your bedside and start with that. As for rushing out the house. I have water apples, tuna pouches (safcol) vittaweats and a vegtable peeler can opener fork and sharp knife in the car, All I need to do is source a cuecumber and I have a meal. in case a cuecumber is too difficult I have a can of mushrooms and a can of asparagus in there as well.I dont go anywhere without Cohen food. My instructor told me at our first meeting One mistake equalls one week so I have no intentions of wastinmg 21 meals of effort for a deviation.
She Bear: Congratulations on the double figures.
Less of Me:Fantastic loss, thanks for the monthly breakdown it was very intersting. How many dress sizes have you come down? Thanks for the smiley instruction i was using quick reply.:)
Magic Lea: WOW 20kg in 6 weeks that is HUGE. I agree with your nurse friend about the health issues re the diet drinks.
L-JayVERY happy that you are back on track and have found your attitude to food becomming more 'normal'. Thanks for the description of your reaction, a good reminder. Glad your back though. I have found it liberating that FINALLY I have the tools available to me to take charge of my weight, this has given me a sense of peace and normality.I am interested to know if you had such a deviation the first time you did the programme. I checked out the competition on the other thread. I dont think my computer skills can cut it. Also having trouble with all the abbreviations. Good Luck Monday let me know how you go.
Reload72 Good Luck for Monday hope you get the double figures. Great effort.
Mumbine: Hope you are feelimg better. I have found the breaking down your day into two and a half hour blocks very helpful. Keep your crackers and fruit to have between meals and have 2 bottles of water between each meal and after dinner. I have found green tea keeps me calm. I dont have suggestions for the gas. Maybe try apples they work for me.

Good night all. Hope we all have a good week. ;)

Morning soon to be skinny people !

Thank you for such a warm welcome ! I am so glad I have found this support network.

Sorry for no individual replies just a quick post - to everyone struggling over the weekend I was with you. My poor husband there was even tears, but luckily got through it. We just need to remember why we are doing this - look in the mirror that always gives me the motivation I need. When you feel like eating something forbidden just post we are here for each other or alternatively brush your teeth - helps for me.

Well happy to report I got through week 1 - 3.2 kilos gone ! Thanks hubby for being so strict (I made him promise he wouldn't let me cheat) !

Here's to another week on Cohens !

Hi everone,
I've not had much to say lately (for a change). I'm doing really well on refeed and have so far lost another 2.5kg since starting it.
Thanks so much the old me for that website. It was so interesting. I often suffer from cravings and I can tell that my body is screaming out for something, but can never figure out what it is that I need. I have saved it into my favourites and also sent it to my sister (who also suffers from extreme cravings). She said she had just been wondering why she was craving ice. After looking at your table, all was explained as she also craves caffeine. Both cravings are from a lack of iron, so she knows she needs an iron supplement.
Anyway, have a great day everyone.
Talk to you all soon.

Cravings

Wow RJM only 3 days to go on refeed, that must be a good feeling! Well done. I have a few questions about refeed, do you have to eat the bread, even if you know its a problem food for you? Am I right in saying that on refeed if you gain more than 1.0 kg you have to go back a day or two on refeed? What happens if you keep reacting to the same food and continue to increase weight each time? How do you get off the merry go round?

Glad you liked the link, there are some interesting articles amongsttheir newsletters aren't there? I'l be interested to hear if your sisters cravings go when she increases her iron intake.

Have a good day. I resisted the cravings yesterday but it was terribly hard. I am trying some fenugreek tea to reduce the craving for sugar. Hope it helps. It also has a colon cleansing effect so it won't be wasted! LOL
