Day 4 of the streak is done and in the books. It sucks, but it's not nearly as bad as I was thinking. I'm just taking it one day at a time and trying to keep focused on the day I'm currently in rather than the days that lie ahead.

I do have to admit I feel much better already. I've been eating good, watching my calories and nutrients, and I've exercised every day this week which has all added up to me feeling healthier. Tired too. SUPER tired. Not 'too tired for sex' tired though. Not that it matters. The shop is closed for repairs.

At least I have RUNNING to burn off all this extra energy!!!

I don't think I conveyed my message. I didn't mean you have a long way to go. I meant that you are going to get hooked like I did and you'll just keep going.

A lot of us are here because we have trouble with moderation. When you can hitch that to something awesome like running, it will change your life.

No pressure at all. Even if a massive streak is something you want, this might not be the right time. My previous PR for a runstreak is 22 days.

Take it easy and enjoy yourself!

Oh, that message was conveyed. I got what you were saying - once you get into something you like it becomes habit shich, in turn, leads to a change in lifestyle...infinity.

I HATE running. Seriously, if it had a face I'd punch it. But, I need to do it in order to get healthy. And, my daughter likes doing it and the least I can do is try to be more involved with something she likes, try to share a common interest.

Right now I HATE it, but I know that will change in time. I know, at some point, I will actually look forward to going for a run rather than hating it.

I know exactly what you are feeling. I hated running so much. Now I don't know what I would do without it. Keep the streak alive. You will get to at least tolerate it and then maybe even like it- maybe?

Ok, my emotions yesterday were so up and down, so inconsistent and ultimately polar opposites, that they should've created a tornado.

First, I had to get up at 6:30AM to get ready to take our daughter to her final cross country meet. We had to leave at 7:30AM to get there on time so it was an early morning for us, especially on a Saturday when I often get the chance to sleep in. Then, it was barely 30-degrees when we got there which was about the same temperature it remained for the next three or four hours which is about how long we had to stand out in the freezing cold, waiting for our daughter's race to end.

Then, we get into the car and head off to the Halloween store to get the kids costumes. Now, to be fair, it's our fault for waiting so long to get the kids costumes, but we honestly didn't really have a good opportunity until this weekend to take them. So, we go shopping around for Halloween costumes. The first store we stopped at was a smaller Halloween Superstore which didn't have as much as the one we normally go to (we just stopped at one that was close to where our daughter's race was located). We ended up finding our son a costume in about 10-seconds, but our daughter didn't find anything she liked. So, we drove an hour and fifteen minutes to go to the Halloween Superstore we usually go to. Aaaaand...our daughter ends up being the epitome of annoying, indecisive, whiny punk teenager who ends up taking a fucking HOUR to pick out a costume.

After dropping 50-plus dollars on a stupid costume for our daughter (which will never happen again), we come home. To peace and quiet? No. To teenage girls. Our daughter had a sleepover last night so we spent the remainder of our evening listening to loud, obnoxious teenagers scream and squeal and fight and OH MY GOD, THEY'RE LOUD!!!

SIGH

So, that part of my day made my negative emotions boil. However...

Ohio State LOST their football game which gives me a huge boner (I HATE Ohio State - those smug bastards).

And, more importantly...

That's right. The mother fucking CUBS are going to the WORLD SERIES!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!

I've always been a die hard Chicago White Sox fan, but I've always had a place in my heart for the Cubs too. I'm a Chicago guy - hence the name, obviously. When I lived in Chicago I lived in Wrigleyville - which is where Wrigley Field is located (the home of the Cubs). I was about three blocks away and often went to games or hung out around the stadium. It is probably the coolest place on earth. Everybody there is super awesome, super friendly and the atmosphere is incredibly loving. And, the Cubs fans around the world finally get to feel the love because, for the first time in over 70 years, the Cubs are going to the World Series. AWESOME.

Week one of the streak is in the books. My take from the week? It was a good start to a long journey I'm looking forward to continuing.

I ate very well 5 out of the 7 days (I didn't do so hot yesterday or today, honestly). I ran 3 out of the 7 days and used the treadmill 4 out of the 7 days.

On to week TWO!!!

I wanted to expand on what I had said earlier about my streak (not that it's a long one, but size doesn't matter - he he he). My legs are TIRED. Not just a temporary, "Oh, it'll go away in the morning" tired either - they are TIRED. When I say that I hate running I have my reasons.

1) I don't have a runner's body. I have a football body. For those who don't live in the US, I have a rugby body. I'm built low to the ground, I'm thick, I have short legs and nothing about me says, "Hey, I bet you're really good at RUNNING!!!"

2) I have never been good at running long distances. I can run in short spurts all day long - run hard for 20 seconds and rest, run hard for 20 seconds and rest, run hard for 20 seconds and rest - but I can't run for long periods of time without becoming exhausted. And, I mean EXHAUSTED.

3) My lung capacity is alright but I have an extremely narrow air passage. I found that out when I went to the doctor a few years ago in regard to potential sleep apnea (which I have). At that time, the doctor told me I had an extremely narrow airway (throat) which makes it hard for me to intake oxygen. Only surgery can fix that problem and that's not something I want to do. I've lived with it this long, I can manage. It just sucks when I'm running - it's hard to breathe and I can't keep up with my body's demands. And, we all know that if you don't get enough oxygen your body tends to shut down. That's what happens to me. Every time. Every single time I go running my body eventually starts to give out. But, I push myself. If I don't, I'll never get any better. It's just not easy.

To give you an idea as to how hard it is for me to run - I pretty much have to use every spare molecule available in my body that isn't exhausted to keep myself from collapsing to the floor when I'm done. Ask Jen. I walk back in the door and could easily just pass out on the floor and sleep for the rest of the day.

So, yeah. My legs are tired.

My body type is Football Player too. I have short legs and I am thick too. No long , lanky body here-lol. Everyone is built differently. Maybe running isn't for you. Give it a good try though and if you don't like it try something else. Walking, Biking, swimming, whatever. The real key is getting out to do something. I know you know this already. Running worked for me but it doesn't work for everyone. The tiredness in the legs will get better. Sorry to hear about the narrow air passage. I don't blame you for not getting surgery- I wouldn't either. I would try to work around it- if that is possible? Like I said - walking may be better for you to get air into your lungs. There are lots of studies out there but walking for an hour is just a beneficial as running for an hour. Might be an option?

Plus: starting out with (fast) walking might get your body more accustomed to and more efficient at endurance type exercise, which could reduce your oxygen requirement a bit. I feel your pain though; I have (objectively) tiny lungs for my height and build and when I do overdo it it takes ridiculously long to overcome the oxygen debt.

Hi Chef - so pleased you're a Cubs fan and watched the epic win. My husband is obsessed and stayed up til like 5:30 am UK time watching the game live from the States. And then woke me up after the win all excited and drunk and wanting winners sex (which was unceremoniously turned the fuck downnnn). But, woo, go cubbies.

Current streak - 10 days

Not a big accomplishment, but an accomplishment none-the-less. My legs are extremely sore and tired, but I'm not giving up. I'm just pushing through and doing a lot of bitching and moaning along the way.

Good news though...

When I go running I run from the end of our parking lot driveway to the end of the road where there is an intersection, then I turn around and come home. I don't know the exact distance, but it's roughly a mile and a half (I measured it on my FitBit a few times). Anyway, the first few times I ran it last week it took me almost exactly 22:00 minutes to complete my run (I have to stop - I can't run the entire thing without stopping - not yet, anyway). Well, when I went running last night I finished in 20:30 minutes which means, just in one week, I've cut down my time by a full minute and a half. Again, not a BIG accomplishment, but an accomplishment none-the-less.

HAHAHHA, that made me laugh harder than it probably should've.

I´m going with better coordination and pacing, considering it´s only been a week. But whatever it is, it´s almost 10% off the original time; well done!

You may be bitching & moaning Chef, but you're still doing it & getting faster & your wife thinks you have sexy legs! :D
