Or a row - or 6 - of thin mint Girl Scout cookies. Serving size is 4 cookies? Get the fuck out of here. Serving size is when I feel bad about myself.
I know the feeling all too well. I swear I keep thinking about setting up a punching bag just so I can de-stress in a healthier (albeit more frightening) manner than dropping a sleeve down my gullet like I was popping a clip into a .45.

It is always nice to set goals. Q is doing amazing and it takes a lot of dedication to do something like running everyday. You can do this for sure. Of course if you streak you will get arrested and I am sure you daughter doesn't want run beside you while you are doing it-lol.

Running gets easier the more you do it. Doing it everyday will get your distances up even quicker. Before you know it, you will be signing up for fun runs and then who knows?

I watch Dateline on NBC. Almost every Friday night. Seriously, I'm an old man. I watch Dateline and get genuinely trapped in the stories of murder and mystery. SIGH, I need a life.

The wife and I had a nice day today. We went to our daughter's cross country race (where we had the pleasure of watching her finish nearly dead last, yikes), went browsing for a new car (just looked, we didn't buy anything), then we drove out to Hobby Lobby and got a few things. For those who don't know, Hobby Lobby is a big arts and crafts store that has a tooooon of cool shit - art supplies, crafts, home decor, etc. Overall, it was a nice day and I'm glad we did the things we did.

Right now, Jen is working on drawing and I'm...well...I'm honestly bored. It's the first weekend since I decided to cut back on drinking and it's just a weird change of pace to sit here on a Saturday night without a beer in my hand. I tried playing video games - not in the mood. I'm watching TV - not in the mood. I don't feel like writing, I don't feel like reading, I don't really feel like doing anything. I'm just bored. Plus, I'm tired. So, that's not helping.

Anyway, in other news, has anyone seen THIS SHIT?

Dude, it's a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup stuffed with Reese's Pieces. Yeah. Because, why not?

Does your daughter care about her ranking? If she´s happy just to participate, pushing her to "achieve more" (whatever that may mean) is as likely to turn her off running as to get her to do better in the long run.

No, she probably doesn't care about her ranking. Ultimately, neither do I. Like I said, it's not all about winning. It's about doing your best.

However, she isn't giving it her best. She's half-assing it. And, she knows it.

I did talk with her the other night about me taking her running next summer so I could teach her how to push herself and she was pretty excited about it. I'm not worried about her losing interest in cross country. I think she ultimately joined because her biological dad ran cross country when he was in high school, so I'm fairly certain there's the whole 'chip on her shoulder' thing that nudged her into joining cross country herself. However, she does enjoy it. She just doesn't have that competitive spirit yet. Her biological dad might've gotten her interested in cross country but he hasn't done anything to help her get better at it. You know, because that would require actually DOING something with the kid. So, like typical protocol, I'll put in the work of fatherly duty and actually TEACH her how to be better at it.

And, to be fair, it's not all about pushing her and making her better. It's going to be fun for me because, although my daughter and I have a very good relationship and love each other, we don't really have a "thing" that we do together or anything. Maybe running could be that thing. Who knows. It would be nice though.

So tomorrow is the big day!

So clarify for me. You said some days you'll run and some days you get on the treadmill. Does treadmill mean walk? There's nothing wrong with either streak, I just don't know what you mean.

I think running will be a great way to bond with your daughter.

Don't sweat feeling a bit stir crazy when you're just breaking a habit. Especially something like drinking that has deppresent effects. It will pass pretty quickly. You know what would make you feel better? A run!

Keep kicking ass!

Well, I WOULD run on the treadmill but it's one of those smaller treadmills that wasn't necessarily manufactured for people to run on it. It's one of those ones with the swinging arm extensions (I can't think of the actual name for them at the moment) and, since it's a fairly older model, it wasn't made with the intent of 250-lb men running on it. So, when I get on the treadmill I walk at 3.5MPH which is a fairly brisk pace for me. I also put it at a fairly steep incline so I have to push myself to "walk uphill" the entire time. I usually walk for 30-minutes but during my streak I might go for longer (45-minutes, maybe an hour).

If I CAN run I WILL run though. No excuses. Even if its cold I'll still go for a run. I have some gear I have picked out that I'm going to order (balaclava, warmer running jacket, etc) so I can be prepared for when winter hits - because it's NOT far away!!!

And, it's funny you mention going for a run to kind of feel better because I just told Jen the other day that I was thinking of exercising every time I felt the urge to eat crappy food or have some drinks. Every time I finish a workout I feel more obligated to eat better, so I figured going for a run (or lifting weights) when I feel like cheating would put me right back on track.

Saw that with my 6-year-old at gymnastics. The way it's set up, the parents can watch the kids like a giant aquarium. She was doing handstands and forward/backward rolls. And because I was watching her, she would look at me each time for a reaction - I was giving thumbs up because she was doing her best... at first. Then she decided to clown it up, and I was shaking my head at her. So she clowned it up more and more. Sigh... I talked to her about it afterwards, told her gymnastics wasn't the place for silliness. We'll have to work out a hand signal for "Do your best, not your funniest"

I hate running on a treadmill. If I had started my running on a treadmill I wouldn't be running today. It is just too boring. Besides it doesn't give you the same fitness as running outside as the treadmill belt is moving all the time.

Like I said I run all Winter. If you are dressed for it there is nothing more invigorating as a run outside. It is nice you are looking at running with your daughter. I know the time with you will mean more to her than anything!

Hey, Chef, how'd your first day of your running streak go?
It went alright, I guess.
Yeah?
Yeah.
How do your legs feel?
How do my legs feel? Hmm, well, like this...

That's been used, but only when her back's turned to me, I plan on keeping it that way until she's an adult.

I use it on the dog. No joke. I give our dog the middle finger. Almost every day.

I would much rather run a treadmill myself but that's only because it takes waaaaay more effort to run on solid ground. And, considering the fact that I HATE running, I'd rather it be as easy as possible, HAHAHA. But, you don't get better that way. So, I'll be running outside. It will be harder work but it will also reward me with more significant results.

And, I'm looking forward to having some time with my daughter too. Now that she's a teenager it's going to be really hard to find things in common with her, so I'll take what I can get. Even if that means I have to...SIGH...run

The more days and further you run the easier it is. When I first started I freaking HATED it. The more I did it - the more it did for me and the easier it became. Now I can't get enough. You will get there. Day 1 is done- Day 2 here you come.

I don't have a dog, hence the 6-year-old.

I hope your daughter recognizes the sacrifices you're making for her, and that you're the greatest man on earth, and you deserve meals and movie tickets and a clean car, on a near-constant basis.

Day 1 complete. Only infinity more to go!:reddevil:

Yeah, dude...it feels like I have sooooo much longer to go. And, in all reality, I do. Losing weight doesn't happen overnight, nor does a lifestyle change, so I'm not going to be impatient with it.

Spending time with your kids while getting fit? Best plan ever! Memories will be made :)

Most of those memories will be of my daughter embarrassing me when she goes and runs around forever while I'm throwing up from exhaustion in the corner.

It does get a little easier every day. However, even in my best shape I still had a hard time running. Jen said it best last night - I am NOT built for running. I'm built for football or wrestling.

Anyway, I do try to keep that in mind - it does get easier everyday.
