ChefChiTown's Rebirth: I'm Back, BABY!!! (In More Ways Than One)...

Jen and I did a little shopping today and, while we went to the store so she could look for a good pair of running shoes, we ended up bringing home A LOT more than that. I spent $130 and she spent about the same. On what? Mostly fruit and vegetables (I'm making homemade juices this week), but we also got a few other items. I bought myself some new underwear (which was definitely needed - I think I was down to one pair that DIDN'T have holes in them), I got a t-shirt designed for runners (made of breathable material), a Macho Man Randy Savage t-shirt, some shoelaces and a few other things. Hmm? What's that? Yeah. A Macho Man Randy Savage t-shirt. Yes, the wrestler from the 80's. Umm, it's like a purplish pink t-shirt with...well, here...just look...

I also bought myself some silk pajama pants. Yeah. Silk pajama pants. I don't normally wear pajama pants - I usually rock shorts - but the second Jen saw them in the store and said, "Mmm, sexy," the sale was already made. I'm wearing them right now in hopes that 'stuff' will happen later. FINGERS CROSSED!!!

Oh, I've also been on track lately, blah blah blah boring.

Now if we can just get rid of your old ratty Browns t-shirts..... I swear I'm burning them one of these days when you're at work. :p

Good job staying on track, honey. :)

Well, I'm doin' it. I'm doin' it, I'm doin' it, I'm doin' it well.

It's been pretty snowy on the roads this week so I haven't gone out running until today. Before today I got on the treadmill, but today was my first run since I got my new stuff. I have to say - the shoes are super comfortable (and flashy as hell), the heart monitor helps me pace myself AAAAAND I'm now a firm believer in compression clothing. I noticed a difference wearing my calf compression sleeves on the treadmill, but I noticed a HUGE difference wearing them tonight when I ran. I took two-and-a-half minutes off my last time and my legs, especially my calves, felt soooo much better while I was running. My calves didn't cramp up, nor did they get tired as fast. I'm impressed.

Anyway, Jen and I have both been really good this week. We've both exercised and stuck to our diet plan. It's not official, but I've lost around 7 lbs since the last time I weighed myself so I'm pretty happy about that. I'm also happy about my THREE DAY WEEKEND off from work, WOO HOO!!!

Ooo that sounds awesome! Well, all of it except the superflashy shoes, but to each their own :p

So, I'm a nerd. Like, a stupid nerd.

Jen and I were talking today about our car situation (we both have a car but her's is literally falling apart), and we discussed how she could start driving the minivan (yeah, I have a minivan, SO WHAT?) and I could either walk or ride a bike to work. I then got the idea I could ride my bike to work and, after I was done working, I could switch into more appropriate clothing and take a bike ride for exercise before I came home. So, what have I been doing for the past hour or two? Oh, nothing...just researching mountain bikes, mountain bike clothing and accessories, necessary gear and whatnot. I literally just added 23 items to a new Amazon Wish List I made called "Biking Stuff." Those items include bikes, helmets (with a shield/visor), biking gloves, a couple of choices of biking jackets, bike lights, a travel first aid kid, handheld bike pump, a digital tire pressure gauge, a travel pack that can attach to a bike frame, etc.

Dork. Huge dork.

I haven't ridden a bike in years. Not that I don't like it, I just have a car. So, why the hell would I ride a bike, you know? Anyway, I'm excited to get a bike and start doing this. Jen's car is literally a piece of shit. It's a fucking miracle it hasn't fallen apart in the middle of the road at some point in the past. Anyway, driving it stresses her the FUCK out (and I don't blame her), so having her drive the van will eliminate a looooot of her stress which makes me happy just thinking about it - she stresses out a lot and I don't like seeing her in pain like that. So, if she drives the van it will relieve her from feeling so much stress. It will also give me the opportunity to buy a bike to use when I go to and from work. Not only will buying a bike make Jen's life less stressful, it will also give me an amazing opportunity to incorporate more exercise into my life. It's a win-win situation...for both of us.

I'm excited to get a bike. I'm also excited to get a bunch of shit to go with it, HAHAHAHA. Hey, once I get involved in something I GET INVOLVED in something. Just like running - I got a bunch of cool gear because I got excited. The same will happen with biking...

NOTE TO SELF:

One part strawberries, one part blueberries and one part spinach makes a tasty, slightly tart juice...that just so happens to look like straight up diarrhea.

Hi Chef.

Look at you go!! Good for you! Just add swimming and maybe you can do a triathlon. Be careful when you get into running and biking you don't gear yourself to the poor house-haha. All you need for running is good shoes, shorts or sweats and a t-shirt. Don't fall into the 'get all the gear I can' trap. I do have a Garmin GPS though- it is handy as it tracks how far and fast you have run. That is all I really need to know.

As for your game plan for the week, I've never understood the whole "walking" DVD thing. I've never seen one so I'm ignorant to the whole concept. What do you do? Do you literally just walk? Like, around the house? On a treadmill? It doesn't make sense to have to go outside, because then you wouldn't be able to watch the DVD. I'M SO CONFUSED!!!

LOL Chef.. It's Walking Aerobics...

Click on different areas (fast forward) to see how the speed picks up... They always start slow and steady for warm up...

Some offer circuit training as well... Part Walking aerobics, then goes to pick up dumbbells and do ST moves for 1-2 minutes - back to walking aerobics. 4 - 5x u will stop for ST

I had to switch to indoor walking bc of my plantar fasciitis.. Outdoor walking is my FAVORITE...I have a great, natural speed bc of my long legs and can do 3 miles easily... BUT, the concrete is murder on my feet with these issues. :( Not to mention the hills, inclines and parts that are in bad shape/uneven.. I also have to be very careful bc of an Achilles Heel/Tendon issue. (Injury from almost 2 years ago that still flares up.) Once I tore that tendon, I was in walking boot for 6 weeks. I love the outdoors and would much rather be at the park walking.

Not everyone has that option. Plus, I can't even try to just stroll around my area at home bc we live in a BAD part of town and it's not safe.
I have to take/drive ZuZu and myself to a park in Garland/Mesquite. Cannot walk my neighborhood in Dallas or go to White Rock Lake/Park up the street..

OOOOOOH!!! NOW I get it!!!

I've noticed that hobbies are expensive. When I started looking at running gear (shoes, socks, jackets, etc) I was surprised at how expensive some of the stuff is and now that I'm looking into mountain bikes and mountain biking gear (shoes, lights, storage packs, etc) I'm seeing a pattern - outdoor hobbies are pricey.

OMG... You totally made me smile just now. The picture of Macho Man!! I grew up in a wrestling loving family, although I haven't watched it for years, and Macho Man was one of my favorites. I also loved Brutus the Barber Beefcake, The English Bulldog, and my all time absolute favorite of all time was Bret the Hitman Hart. I was so saddened when I learned he's fighting prostate cancer. Part of my childhood. :(

I also love the idea of getting a bike. I almost bought myself one last year, but never did. The roads I live on aren't exactly biker friendly. I used to love riding my bike though when I was a kid.

Then THIS match must've been hard for you to watch (when Bret Hart turned on Macho Man)...

PS - I'm a wrestling dork too. Look at this t-shirt I found on Amazon yesterday. I'm soooo buying it.

Haha... the Million Dollar Man. ;) I used to have posters all over my room when I was a kid. So funny to look back.

Sometimes I forget how good of a mother my wife is. I shouldn't, but I do.
