Day 11 of 30
Weight - 245.0 lbs
We have a pretty busy day today so I woke up a little early in order to get in a good run before my day begins. I haven't done that yet, but I will in a moment.
Today is our daughter's 11th birthday party (her birthday isn't for a couple of days though) and we came up with the bright idea to let her have a sleepover as her party. So, tonight our house will be filled with young, loud, annoying girls and a couple of adults who will slowly be losing their patience with children. Jen made some nice looking cupcakes and my contribution is that I will be the one picking up the pizza later. The one who doesn't like cooking took the time to make pink and purple swirled cupcakes and frosting, and the one who is passionate about cooking and actually does it for a living is simply just buying a pre-made pizza from a restaurant - because THAT makes sense, HAHAHA.
Part of my challenge is avoiding, what I deemed, "unnecessary carbohydrates." To clarify that - if I decide to have a baked potato with dinner every once in a while, that's ok. If I had a sandwich on low-carb bread every once in a while, that's ok. If I have tacos wrapped in a tortilla, that's fine too. Those carbohydrates would all be part of a meal and not a main source of my food intake. However, if I were to eat something like a bowl of ice cream at 10PM, chug a bunch of apple juice in the morning or inhale a bucket of potato chips, THOSE would be considered completely "unnecessary." I haven't been cutting out carbohydrates completely; I just haven't been shoveling them into my mouth in the form of junk food.
Anyway, one thing I've noticed during my 30-day challenge (so far) is when I do eat a decent amount of carbohydrates for dinner (the fajitas we ate, the roasted potatoes we had for dinner, the tacos we had last night, etc), I don't see much of a change on the scale the following morning. I either gain a little weight back, lose barely anything or stay just about the same. Every other day though, the numbers on the scale noticeably drop. Now, I'm not advocating that carbohydrates are bad for you (they're not, they're an essential form of energy the body needs to survive), but I definitely see now why people try to avoid them.
On a side note, I realized this morning that I have lost aaaaalmost 20 lbs since my last doctor's appointment. Why is that significant? Well, during my last doctor's appointment (which was, eeeeeh, two months ago maybe?) I weighed 261.0 lbs. In comparison to last year's visit, my blood sugar went from "pre-diabetic" to "normal," my cholesterol went from "borderline high" to "normal," and my blood pressure dropped a little bit. BUT, my blood pressure is still REALLY high - it always has been (last year it was 200+/140 something and this year it was like 180/120 or something crappy like that - yeah, not good). So, instead of throwing me on blood pressure medication, we made a deal - I scheduled a follow-up appointment which is to take place just a few days before my 33rd birthday (which is at the end of the month) - and, our deal was that, if I could lose 20 lbs between my last appointment and the one before my birthday, and if my blood pressure lowers again, he won't prescribe me any blood pressure medication. So, I'm almost there!!! And, in honor of my success so far, I decided to shave my facial hair into a handlebar mustache for the weekend. Jen says she hates it, but she's totally just pretending. Pfft, women, right?
