Changing up meal frequency

Just my opinion, on what I have seen work, and witness myself.

My friends wife every Christmas used to cut off one of her meals and increase here cardio 3- 4 times a week. She would always lose any where from 8-12 lbs her first month. The second month, it would slow right down to 4-6 lbs. So she would increase her cardio. Once again she would lose about 4-6 lbs. SO we explained to her that the body goes into self preservation mode when deprived of normal calories and finds and increase in physical activity. So this quick trick, which is well know in most fields was to go back to her regular diet, an continue her weekly cardio. The second week she took her last meal of 650 cals, and split it into two. She would eat 325 at around 5 and another 325 2-3 hours after her workout. Finally by week four, she had split lunch and supper into 4 meals of approx 300-325 cals per meal every two hours, and ended up losing that almost 12 lbs that month. By convincing her body that she was recieving fuel every couple of hours (without actually increasing her daliy caloric intake) she had slightly raised her metablosim.

Most people I know try to eat 4-5 meals per day for the above given reason. I just thought I would share why ths works to a certain degree. By also switching up the nutritional value of the meals you injest, you can really amplify the effectiveness of 4-5 meals a day.

When I was in my off season, i would try to eat as much as i could 3 times a day with protein shakes inbetween. This would slow down my metabolsim quite a bit. Needless to say, before a competetion, I would switch that to about 6 equal caloric servings, amp up my resistance and cardio training, and successfully lose about 20-25 lbs over 6-8 weeks.

Since we are all different, everyone is going to have different results here. To artifically speed up or decrease ones metabolism can take from 2 - 4 weeks. Sometimes longer. BUT the best chance of success I HAVE FOUND, is by eating less more frequently, it is definitely much easier to keep off the weight. I know most people I know use this technique, I just thought I would mention it again because i find it an effective control.

Thanks for reading
