Hi, my name is Amber, i am quite young to be wanting to change my lifestyle and eating habbits, However, things have got bad and i have decided to make a change TODAY! the thing with me is i have no motivation to do things and often think "oh welll" but not this time rounnd, i have tried the 5:2 diet (basically you only eat 500 calories 2 days a week) and it didnt work for me along with countless other diets.
being only 15 years old i should be able to run for at least 10 minutes although i cannot, i feel ashamed to be out jogging as i get worried that people will see me and shout something out!
i want to be able to feel like a normal teenager and wear 'normal' clothes and have the 'bikini body' people my age do so i WILL achieve this and want to be supported, hence, the fact i have signed up to this. i hope i will get alot of support from everyone on here and want you to be there as my mind set and body changes

Hello Amber, congratulations for deciding to make a change and welcome to the forum.

I would suggest starting by reading the sticky posts on the different sections of the forum. If you have a question, feel free to ask on the appropriate sub-forum.

You may also want to check the "tools" section of the forum, here; http://www.fitness.com/tools/

Have a nice week and good luck. :)

Welcome to the forum.

If I am honest - I am not a big believer in any of those diets that get advertised in magazines... I really do think that the best way to lose weight is to learn to eat healthy food at the right calorie level and become more active... Getting there is a process and tends to not happen overnight. We do not run until we can walk...

I would not like to try to eat 500 on any one day ever... I would be setting myself up for another failed diet if I did that...

When I started out - walking was a tough form of exercise... I was pretty big then to say the least - but slow walking was a great first start... I increased the distance that I walked going further as soon as I could... pretty soon I was doing some big distances... The amazing thing was that I got fitter and I naturally speeded up... Now - I do an hour of tough zumba most days (sometimes two hours)... you do not mention how big you are and how distant the goal of running may be. Whether it is near of far - you will get there if you do it in manageable steps... it does take time though...

I know that quite a lot of people on the forum over the years have learnt to run using the couch to 5k program.

I think when it comes to food that it will benefit you to think not only in terms of a quantity of calories but also how those calories are spent... Our bodies need all sorts of things like protein, fibre, healthy fats, calcium etc to be healthy... We could spend 1500 calories on chocolate and not be nearly as healthy as we would be if we spent the same 1500 calories on healthy things...

A lot of us put on weight because of one or more of the following three reasons...
  • we eat too much junk food and generally unhealthy food
  • we eat too much because we opt for massive portion sizes
  • we are inactive

I think that it makes sense to try to work out our own biggest failing and try to be more mindful about it.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends here

Good luck with your project.
