Changing My Life

Hey everyone!

I just wanna start off by saying: This forum is amazing...its great to know there are so many people out there willing to support others and share their motivation and methods! :)

My name is Sara, I am 130 pounds, 5"7. I want to lose about 10 pounds and really tone my body. The most important thing for me right now is eating healthy on a low budget and commiting to an exercise routine.

For me its about changing myself inside and out. Becoming a better perosn all around. LEarning self discipline, patience and having an outlet for stress. I want to be a healthy individual in every possible way. The stories I've read on ehre have removed all doubt from my mind: It's possible.

Today I started the C25k program: Week1, Day1..completed! I'm not fat at all, I'm simply unhealthy so I want to change that. (I also want to have a runner's body!) Today while starting the program I actually had to push myself, I'm that unfit.

I feel really good about accomplishing that, even though its such a little accomplishment, and I feel REALLY motivated but I can't ignore that little voice telling me it won't last, because it never does last...even though I want this so bad I dream about it!!!

I want motivation techniques..if I'm motivated I know I will see this through. Creative ideas that have worked for you guys to keep my eye on the prize: A healthy and happier me.

motivation technique: think about what you want. If you want to run a marathon, think about running a marathon. If you want to eat a cookie, then you think about eating a cookie, then you eat a cookie. Focus on your goals, focus on what accomplishing your goals will mean to you. Its all about your mindset baby! Good luck and have fun!

At 5'7" and 130lbs., you're already at the low end of your recommended healthy weight range. If you go down to 120, you'll actually be considered underweight. You would probably be able to become completely toned and look the way that you want without losing any actual weight. My advice to you is to not worry so much about a loss number at this point, just focus on toning up and look for visual results instead of holding yourself to a specific weight-loss goal.

I would tend to agree that you should be focusing more on exercise and healthy nutrition rather than looking for weight loss as such.

People can look dramatically different at the exact same weight depending on how that weight is distributed within their body as fat or muscle. I think that toning is the way forward for you. I can understand a desire to lose percent body fat at your weight rather than weight as such. Good nutrition is of benefit to everyone.

i agree with what you guys are saying, 10pounds might not be the right way of thinking baout it...so what would be an ideal body fat percentage for my height and weight? maybe that cud be my goal....the c25k thing is going well...exams kinda of messed up my routine but im starting week two tonight hopefully..my last exam is tomorro so i'll have no more interuptions and no more excuses!
i cut gluten and lactose out of my diet because i suspect im allergic to them...my skin always improves when i stop having them in my diet and i dont get stomach aches. im trying to get my doctor to agree to do a test for me but shes stubborn...!!! doctors can be so frustrating
one thing im having trouble with isdrinking enough water...has anyone heard of adding a pinch of salt to water to improve hydration?

I have seen the table that wikipedia mentions a few places...

Body fat percentage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

21% to 24% is listed as fitness
while 25% to 31% is listed as acceptable.

I would get your body fat percentage tested - either by getting someone at a gym to measure it for you or by buying an electronic device.

Then you will know where you lie on this chart.

I wouldnt be adding salt to water. Most of us watch the salt in the diet because if people have more than 2300mg sodium they may find that they start to retain water - which in turn increases their weight. I am sure that you have heard of women taking water tablets...

Make sure that you drink 65 oz of water every day.
