Cate's Diary

LaMa- G's patience has been put to the test I'm afraid. Staying away from chainsaws would be a very good idea for a while. We will go out & plat 9 holes of golf when the weather is fine again.
Liza- I think that I have missed people so much that I am grateful for any interaction. I at least now have a good excuse not to hug anyone, even though I am a natural hugger. I will be able to selectively hug when this is over. I should end up having fewer perfume reactions. Today is SO lazy! Oh, well.

I very much hope fewer people will hug everyone they meet when this is over.

I hate it when people I don´t know well and like a lot want to hug me. The allergies don´t help of course but I really just don´t want to touch most people. Says the person who touches people for a living.

I've always been a selective hugger as well. I really like cultures that put hands together to greet like India and Japan and would prefer a switch to that. Save the hugs for people who i am close to :)

It's raining here today as well. I think it's okay to be a selective hugger. :grouphug: You're lucky to be in this circle Cate, hahaha.

LaMa- I used to try to shake someone's hand to hold off on the hugs, but a lot of men, in particular, seem put out by that. Even handshakes now are out. I blew a few kisses on Tuesday & rubbed someone's clothed arm instead of a hug.
Liza- I like the Indian way of greeting too. It's really friendly without having fragrance all over you. It won't be acceptable either!
Em- It rained most of the day & overnight it became really foggy :(
I'm very happy to be in that hugging circle :grouphug:

With the fog comes shortness of breath. When I woke up struggling for air this morning I temporarily thought "Oh, no. I hope I don't have the virus", then I got up, used my puffer, had a drink & looked outside to see thick fog. Phew. It's the main reason I am not a big fan of Winter. Give me the clear nights and frosty mornings rather than fog!
Today I am not going to be a sloth. A good walk is essential.

a lot of men, in particular, seem put out by that.
I have had two men, since I returned to Australia, express surprise and miffedness that I wouldn't hug them. Neither of them is related; they both just assumed they could hug me. (No woman has.) This was after my 14 days' isolation - ie COVID well and truly on the agenda.

And you have fog! That's unhappy, about how it hits your breathing - yes, the crisp, clear winter days are so good, when they happen. (And better for star-gazing, if the star-gazer can take the cold!) On the other hand - misty effects in bushland - beautiful! Enjoy your walk! :)

I like to hug folks, however I almost never initiate one, not the first time. If its clear the other person wants a hug I am always a willing participant. In the end I hug lots of people, but only the ones I think want to be hugged. LaMa, you are safe from me. I am less hesitant to shake hands or even pat someone on the back. Physical contact seems to me to be an important part of a lot of social interactions. I read somewhere that if a server in a restaurant makes hand contact with the customer they get bigger tips, I can see that. Stopped doing it all a couple of months ago, and miss it.

Amy, Rob & LaMa- I think I will have less physical contact with people from now on as I am getting used to it. I will have fewer reactions to fragrance that's for sure. Maybe over time, that feeling may lessen & I will certainly be hugging our sons & our younger grandson (after asking first). Our older GS is not a hugger at all & our GD always wears perfume (13 going on 18).
Amy- the mist may be pretty in the distance, but I really struggle for breath with it. I mean really struggle to breathe on a foggy night. I struggled all day long. Our walk had to be cut short. I did get to meet a neighbour, which was lovely & we exchanged phone numbers. She is friends with one of my golfing buddies.
Funny story-
We have borrowed a young ram from one of our neighbours, with the hope of getting some more lambs. Our 12 ewes & wethers checked him out & he walked off towards the bush. About 15 minutes later I saw our ewes running across the paddock & I expected to see the ram chasing them, but, no, it was the opposite. He was in full flight & the ewes were chasing him. Poor boy! He doesn't have a name & I have named him Buddy, after Buddy Holly as he is a mixed breed with some Texan breed in there. We are hoping for some rock'n'roll action. It looked so funny!

Hey Cate, I hope your breathing does not become too much of an issue. I've had nights where I felt like I could not breathe due to medication or heat and it is a nightmare. I can only imagine going through that scare more frequently due to weather.

I'm definitely a hugger but regulations haven't eased up here, so the 6 ft distance is a priority. I heard Australia is allowing people to see friends, someone on instagram posted that. That must be such a relief & so healthy too (mentally).

The new addition to your family sounds fun - something to look forward to! Can you post pics? Or did I miss them?

Take care xoxo

:D Poor thing! I hope he´ll be ok...

Haha, that’s funny about the ram. Expect the unexpected! Kind of sums up everything at the moment.

Bad news on the fog causing a clog but good news on the potential new pal.

Thanks, Misty, LaMa, Em & 101.
The fog affecting my Asthma is an ongoing thing & something I just have to accept & deal with. I'll use my puffer a bit more while it's like this. It's even foggier this morning, but I feel ok, probably because I made sure to up my dose yesterday.
Different states are talking about easing restrictions, but Tasmania isn't yet. I hope it's done very slowly & carefully.
I wish I had my phone handy when the ram was being chased by the ewes. It was SO funny. I haven't spotted them since.

The poor beleagured ram! :rotflmao:

And I'm sorry for my insensitive response about fog. I hope some of the winds bring a clearing of that today.

Just got a call from one of my favourite golfing buddies asking if I wanted a game this afternoon. YES!
