Cate's Diary

Hi Cate sounds like you been having lots of ups and a few little downs . Glad the grandkids all ok and that your busy and productive. Marsia and Emily I know what both of you mean about when you have altercations with someone or over reach out to someone . I feel like I should reach out to that person who I had the problem with a few weeks ago to explain myself but I'm not going too . I don't need them in my life because I don't need that toxicity they brought.

Cate I get you on the awkwardness with the SIL . Having similar now due to different reasons but it's hard when you care about someone and love them . I'm glad I read this today because I think go talk to her about her anger issues ( not towards me but towards other people ).

I'm glad your getting sorted out now with your Cardio visit . Hope appointment comes really soon . I was extremely anxious with my BP that I would have a stroke so I understand you worrying . Yes please take it easy and " less stress more success"

Hi Cate, I am the same, where I can't do multiple things at once, and am a type B person who gets stressed by overachievers. I still need to remind myself over and over not to compare myself to anyone else because it just stresses me out, and I usually don't see my good points when I do that. With sewing, I never learned much because the people who taught me weren't patient and didn't go slow enough either. Maybe you could find a sewing class?

I hope you find nice relaxing things to do that make you happy and get your stress level down. Pretend your nice doctor ordered it!

Thank you, everyone. I can't concentrate enough to reply properly as I am being nagged by my lovely husband to do something & the grand-kids are here as well, so I had better go. I'll be back tonight.
We are about to "foster" our OS's chooks. We gave him the chook house, we have been buying the chook food for years & we don't get given any eggs. Now that our son doesn't live in his house anymore, we thought we may as well have the chooks up here. Our grandson will be happy not to have the responsibility. OK- better scoot!

Oh I really would love my own chickens but as there are lots of foxes about and a dog whose favourite pastime is chasing birds lol I can't have . Sounds like you are excited to get them . Hope your day with the grandkids was fun

I am excited about having them, which has surprised me a little bit. Getting our own eggs will be wonderful! I can't wait to go check them tomorrow morning. We'll leave them in for a week I think. G was never keen on getting chooks, but didn't like seeing them somewhat neglected, which is why we ended up with them. Thanks, A :D
Kids are about to be picked up & are currently skyping a friend. Raucous laughter can be heard!

I have had a lovely day today with our youngest grandson. We had lunch at a new cafe- just me & him. His sister is with a friend, his Dad is at work( we visited briefly) & G was at golf ( begrudgingly).
Chook update- 1egg on the 1st day!
We'll go check again when G gets home. I am going to work on softening him up as I would love them to have a proper coop & yard, instead of the "portable" one. He will agree with me eventually :) This getting down on your knees to check for eggs & clean out their hutch is not good.

:p I'd say getting down on your knees to check for eggs, then having to get up - is eggcellent - but staying on your knees for cleaning isn't, so I'm with you on upgrading the coop.

Hope you get some eggtra eggs today Cate !
Sounds like you are happy and content with your new residents .
Have a lovely day ( I'm never sure what time of day it is there so maybe I mean evening )

Hi, LaMa& Petal. I read your eggcellent posts last night, but forgot to respond :)
Getting up & down is good, but getting down & putting your head inside a smelly chook pen is not good for my nostrils. I will be cleaning it out today but will wait until we get back from the tip when I'll be feely grotty anyway.
Petal- we are 11 hours ahead of you at the moment. So it's 10.13 am on Sunday, here & 11.13 pm in Ireland...well, 11.14 now.....
I'll be back later, xoxo

Oof, I'd forgotten about that part. As pretty, fascinating, and useful as some birds are they ALL smell foul in captivity and they trigger my -otherwise no longer existent since puberty- asthma like nothing else. It's probably the structure of the finer feathers; they break down into a much finer dust than hairs ever would.

We are looking forward to letting them out of their pen, as they are too I would imagine. They certainly do trigger my Asthma & .....the flies. UGH. The flies have come from everywhere. We'll see how we go with them. No more eggs. That 1st one was obviously in the pipeline when we moved them!
Christmas-
It is such an anxious & stressful time of year. I decide that I won't fuss about it & then I suffer guilt because I don't fuss about it! :svengo:

Hi Cate,

I accidentally read the beginning of your diary this morning instead of the end. It was pretty interesting - your husband made a joke about being jealous, and there was also some chatter about smaller clothes - and smaller bra sizes! I got a kick out of that.

Hi Cate! I wish I could help with your chickens. My grandfather raised them and had lots of beautiful varieties, and I would love the straw and manure for the garden. I may see when we fix up the falling down barn if there is a way to keep chickens safe from all the predators here. I have 3 barn cats who have cat houses in the rafters and who I have had for over 5 years and do ok, so maybe there would be a way. I also have an inherited collection of antique chicken books because my Great Uncle Herman kept chickens (in old vw bugs and tv sets with the glass taken out - he was rather eccentric.)

Are you going to have a fenced in chicken run? I have seen where people let them in the garden, and just protect the lettuces and things like that that the chickens would eat otherwise.

I agree about Christmas. We just exhausted ourselves feeding and entertaining company for a few days and now I don't feel like cooking for Christmas! Hopefully after a day's rest I'll get a second wind, but I don't know if it is even safe to try to go in a grocery store at this point once I figure out what to make. Maybe I'll steam some crabs or something ultra simple!

Hi, Jack. The start of my diary feels like it was a decade ago. Oh, yes :blush5: - it was. I think I would be embarrassed to read back over it.
Hi, Marsia. I wish we had a barn. I think I would have liked your Great Uncle Herman. Eccentricity is a trait I love :)
I think we'll stick with the portable coop for a while & G can clean it out. I'm looking forward to letting them out to roam free during the day. We are hoping that they don't find their way around to the North side of our house!
G & I are going grocery shopping today after I stressed out about us not being Christmassy enough. I am so allergic to fuss & bother but our OS is coming with his GF & her youngest daughter & our two younger GK's, so we have to fuss for their sake. We have decided to have lots of food on the table in platters, rather than a hot meal. Cold Turkey & ham, tiger prawns (cooked on the barbie), salmon fillets, new potatoes, a salad platter & then a big fruit platter, with chocolates & maybe one of G's delicious GF cakes.
Next year we are going to have slices & festive fruit cake & other home-made Christmassy things ready early & a plum pud & .......
OK. Once again, it's too late to fuss for this year, but next year, will be different. I'll fuss early, so I don't stress close to Christmas.
That's the plan anyway.

Sounds really nice and festive and yummy! I feel the same about Christmas. I like really low key and no fuss. I get really into being inward and introspective and really enjoy silence and peacefulness this time of year. We have a tiny little tree up and a little Christmas village, and that's it for decorations. I think if it's about family, it's bound to be cozy and festive!

I get introspective at this time of year too. It can be a very overwhelming time for any of us I think.
Our son & his daughter usually reek of fragrance, so I struggle with that. It doesn't seem possible for them to stop stinking of it, even when they know they are coming to our home. It shouldn't be too much to ask, but apparently, it is. When I spent the day with our GS he mentioned that they do too. He suffers from terrible hayfever.
I hope the day goes well. We stocked up on lots of yummy, healthy things, including lots of fresh cherries.
I think I'll wrap a bottle of French champagne up for our son & GF & give it to them as an engagement present. I asked them not to buy us anything. I have presents for the 3 younger children that will be here. T's older daughters won't come.
G & I are having a relaxing afternoon & evening at home today.
