Cate's Diary

Yesterday was huge! We were there from 9am until 6.30. I did manage to finish off my book while they were playing, as everything was so tidy from the day before, but when they came in I was flat out! We took so much money for the club(4 times more than Sat & that was with us catering ourselves) & I even ran out of our local beer, right at the very end. I was absolutely exhausted-slept for 9 hours without waking at all & still am really. My feet were throbbing last night. Today is day 8 of our 10 days at the club. We are still in our dressing-gowns, drinking coffee at 10.15am. We go out about 4.30pm today, buying beer along the way! We are having a very lazy day today.
I'm too tired to concentrate on diaries & making sensible comments, I'm afraid, but have read most, xoxo Cate

I did, however, win a chicken last night, with the best score of 21 Stableford points for my 9 holes, with a miss on the last. (Vee is prob. the only one who understands what that means).
No one understands the Stableford scoring system. I don't think Stableford understood it.

Anyway glad your having fun out on the course and hope the hard work at the club isn't stressing you too much. Thanks again for the kind words in my diary. It's noted and appreciated.

Hi V- The hard work isn't stressing me, but it sure is tiring me. I'm having 4 days away from the club, as of the end of today. I'm about to head off to play with the women. In Australia we have to score our Stableford points for every individual game we play, including Stroke games. It's a pain in the butt! Our scores are linked to Golflink & it's an Australia wide thing. I have a little "cheat" card for our course, to help me work out mine. Everyone tells me how simple it is, but I really can't be bothered thinking about it.
You're welcome re the kind words. I always say what I think. No-one would think that getting to your goal would bring such confusion, but I know from sheer bloody experience. You'll get there, but with lots of self pep talks!

It's 11.30pm & I have had a really good day. My golf was very inconsistent. I was 3rd in my division with quite a good score, but was all over the show (to anyone who has any idea about golf scores & Stablefords I had 38 points, with 4x4's & 3 misses- so inconsistent!) I had good company & had fun.
Tonight we won our 8-ball(pool) grand final. We were, by far, the underdogs. All good.

Congratulations on the 8-ball! I´ll just take your word for it on the golf scores since I have next to no idea but good company and fun are the main things anyway.

Congrats on the successful pool sharking. I really need to hit the golf course sometime soon just to get back into it. I'm pretty sure I'll do that 9-hole league thing again this year (which starts up once it gets really hot), so I could use some practice.

Hi LaMa & V. Golf is a great sport. I love it. Even when I play badly I think how good it is to be outside exercising &, of course, the worse you play, the more exercise you get! I do hope I start to get some consistency though, as I want to get my handicap down. Hope you get out there soon V

:) My last ex played golf and I did like to accompany him because most of the courses were wonderful places to go for a stroll. I just don´t get having to hit a ball every so often. But if that´s what it takes for people to landscape loveliness I´m all for it.

Thanks Mystic. I am really enjoying the break. Had a very lazy day yesterday & another one planned today.
Hi LaMa- I used to think golf was a crazy, boring game, until I was talked into having a go. It's really hard to explain the joys of golf as they are also crazily mixed up with the frustrations of golf. You are pitted against yourself & the elements, luck etc. The good shots keep you coming back again & again, trying to get better at it. When you hit a really sweet shot it feels wonderful! When I hit a really bad shot I usually burst out laughing! I love it!

If you enjoy it when you do great and when you screw up you have found yourself a sport. I'm afraid it's too social for me and I am truly terrible at it. I'm better at pool, but I would never win a tournament. Hell, I'm likely better at ballet than golf.

I'm horrible at golf. I've never played a 'real game' of golf (I'd probably be there for a week, I'd probably only get the ball 10 feet closer to the hole with every swing) , but have played mini gold and tried a few swings at a driving range and I solidly suck at both haha. I rarely even hit the ball when at the driving range!

Ha ha Q. You're right. I think I have found a sport that suits me. I think, basically, I am a very sociable person & I do like a personal, sporting challenge. I am not sure that I particularly like the company of many women, however. There are enough there that I like, to keep me going & I have decided that I really don't care if some don't like me (or I think they may not like me.) I'm going to stick with it.
Mystic- I have spent most of my life petrified of horses! :blush5: When I was young I had some very scary experiences with horses- bucked off, bitten, almost raped by a horse trainer(but that's another story- he ended up screaming, when I kneed him in the nuts. He was a friend of my grandfathers & I told no-one, for fear that I would be in trouble!) Horses are big! Golf is not at all scary. I'm not sure I could get over my fear of horses. I have made myself do it with spiders, snakes & heights, but not at all sure I could with horses.

Had a pretty lazy day today. D, our older son, came up for lunch.
R, our YS, put a post on Facebook today, which had me in tears of relief. He has openly said he is going to see a mental health practitioner next week, as he realises that he may be bipolar. It was really honest & open & funny & very, very brave. I'm a proud & much relieved mother. It's a big step!

That's terrible Cate! I'm glad it ended the way it did though (aside from not being able to tell anyone). Let us hope you did some permanent damage.

I'm super happy that R has come around! The only way to get help is to know you need it. That's truly great and I hope he can find help that gets him back on track in short order.

I hope R does find the help he needs Q & LaMa. He's not functioning at a very good level, that's for sure. We spent the day at the 8-ball yesterday, watching both our sons play. They drew one another first up! D won & got right through until the 2nd last match, so didn't quite make the final. R also got through almost to the end on the other side of the draw. He is in debt because of his attempt at the cafe & will have to work hard to get himself out of it. I have paid 2 weeks of his mortgage today. We can't help out much, but will up to $4K to even things up a bit with his brother.

I had my hair cut during the day & it's good to have it short. It's quite hot, but without being unbearable.

Aw I'm sorry to hear R is going through a rough spot. My cousin is bipolar too and I worry about her a lot. I hope things work out!!

Being in debt is nasty, I hope he´s being given the time to pay it off. During which time the possibilities for further adventures will likely be greatly reduced, which may not be entirely a bad thing.
Good to see you and your husband passed on the eight-ball-genes! Also: short hair rocks, even more so in summer ;)
