Cate's Diary

I love your reasons to be slim Cate...you are spot on and I agree 100% with these! It's good inspiration and a good way to start the year!
Thanks for posting these...I needed them today!

I am more than happy to share anything that will help provide inspiration to get healthy & slim! I will be forever learning & use & absorb whatever inspiration or information that can help me, from any source I can.
Tru- We are safe(for now) but it is sad & scary. It is very dry & hot & today was VERY windy. Once again it is heartening to see communities pulling together to help one another out. Times like this test people but I see the good mostly & I see most people trying to think how they can help. Helpers are coming from all the other states & also from New Zealand.
There are 100 people missing & over 100 homes lost, but so far no confirmed deaths.
Our older son is down South helping out doing a volunteer count of the endangered Orange-bellied parrots & I will be glad when he is back home.
Every day we should be grateful for whatever we have.
Love to all xoxo Cate

have been thinking of you as we watch the pictures on TV. We get the heat and wind tomorrow with high 40s predicted.

Hey Cate - glad to hear you & your family are ok for now - hope you continue to be safe.

thankyou for sharing your list...most of it rings true for me too .... & I especially agree with your comment....
We must learn to love ourselves & truly believe that we deserve it.
... we really should treat ourselves, our bodies, as our temples, every single one of us have value, and deserve to lead the best lives possible.... I was suprised myself once on this journey of "healthy" , what a great feeling of relief I had, how heavy a burden of guilt I'd been carrying with my unhealthy lifestyle, and how "mentally" light I was starting to feel- with healthy choices- good food , daily exercise....

thankyou Cate for sharing such a lovely inspiration for starting our new year,
and wishing you safety in the difficult time in Taz.
View attachment 19584 ~ I noticed this amazing sunrise last week on arriving at work ~ it really can be a beautiful world we live in .. we just need to take the time to notice & appeciate it... ~

blessings Cate, keep safe...

tru- I hope the hot winds and high temps don't bring any fires your way! It's scary that this is happening so early in Summer. We had such a good growth year last year so there's plenty of fuel to feed the fires! My LH & I are going to brush-cut further back from our house tomorrow & again on Friday.
Maryann- I'm really glad that my post is resonating with you & with others. The forum is a very 2 way thing. Your posts are so positive & make me feel good. I think we need to constantly remind ourselves how good life is. Thanks for your blessings xoxo Cate
Playing golf with the women today as the smoke has lifted & the air is clear. Tasmania has some cooler weather today & we expect a top of 20oC only. Nice. I hope it rains soon & douses most of the fires around the state. So far we have been lucky.
Love to all xoxo Cate

There are a few fires around us but not close enough to be a concern, the heat wave is only just starting for us so it is a case of watch and keep the radio on.

The good thing about cutting back the scrub and undergrowth is it is a great workout :)

Hubby and I have our place fairly clear but if our neighbors go up nothing will save our place because we are surrounded by macadamia farms on 2 sides, bush on the other 2. When macadamia trees catch fire they explode.

Enjoy the golf and the cool change :)

I did enjoy the golf & the cool change tru. Hope you don't get any fires near you! Exploding macadamia trees? SCARY! I actually kept a sleeveless vest on all day today, which was great! I didn't set the world on fire, golf-wise (def. no pun intended) but had a good day. I am looking forward to the day where I have some consistency.....hopefully! I played with a woman today who takes life a little too seriously. I feel for her really as she is so sensitive. I hope I don't have to play with her EVERY week though as it will be a little heavy going.
Golf is such a calorie burn & I am going to use golf days as a means of going way under my cals, by not eating bread or really starchy carbs that day. After checking out the link to what foods contribute to belly fat ( I caved, under the consistent pressure of advertising!) I decided to cut bananas out for the rest of January as well.
I'm happy with being back, feeling like I am in control of my eating again. It is such a relief!
I am staying under 1350 cals per day, every day for January! I am!!........hopefully!
Cheers xoxo Cate

Wee hoo! Down another .5 of a kilo this morning. I don't think I should change it on MFP until I see it again though!
Tired today, after golf yesterday, but am feeling great! :D
There is so much activity post Christmas in the forum that I will have to post more often, just to not lose sight of my diary. Funny that.......
Cheers xoxo Cate

Thanks Maryann. 2kg down since the start of January :D I am so happy about that! I am feeling so positive about this year. There are many problems to try to cope with but I do feel confident. The major problem is our ex-DIL. I picked the kids up from her place yesterday at 5.30 & she hadn't fed them since breakfast! She was outside gardening & had told them she didn't have time. She is not well mentally I know, but not feeding a 6 year old & a 5 year old. The kids tell me she spends most of her day in her room, reading her Mormon book. I don't think I have mentioned it, but we are having the GK's every Sunday morning now as she was taking them to the Mormon church & had told them not to tell their father. She had told him that she wanted to have another night with them as she wanted to spend more quality time with them. Instead she was going to a women's group thing for about 4 hours, while the kids were going to "Sunday School.' She is always stressing that they should be open & honest with one another & she has been deceitful. It was doing our son's head in. He has to work Sunday's as he gets paid double time, in order for him to take an extra day off to look after them.
Hopefully this year he will be able to somehow pay her out & at least that will take a lot of pressure off. He may have to ask his grandmother(my MIL) for a loan. It is very hard to deal with someone who is mentally unstable & it is a little scary with the grandkids. At one stage we were petrified she would kill herself. She is so vulnerable to exploitation & I fear for her. I will try not to see worst case scenarios & my husband & I do what we can to help & are as supportive as we can be. It's a very fine line with her & you feel like you're walking on eggshells most of the time. Not feeding the kids yesterday really upset me!
I used Skype for the first time yesterday to talk to our YS who's in Canada. I could see he wasn't really up & the conversation left me feeling a bit flat. I'll tell you about it another time as I have to go now. Our OS is calling up in a sec & his GF wants to use my computer to do some banking.
Bye for now xoxo Cate

Borrowed this from the Cohen's newsletter as I thought it was well worth sharing-

Live A More Positive Life
Life can be so much easier and more enjoyable if we are positive. Things fall in to place, we accomplish goals and we are healthier and happier! When you are not feeling it, there are a few simple ways of changing your thinking that will help you become more positive.

Firstly, believe in and go after your own success. Your own resolution to succeed is more important than anything. If you think you can succeed then you can. Your belief in your own ability to succeed is essential and does not only motivate you to keep going - you have to believe that you can achieve something to do it and how you will do it will then present itself along the way.

Whatever you focus on persistently you will find in your world, so be careful what you focus on. Remind yourself to keep your focus on what you want to achieve and people who can help you reach your goals.

Once you believe and know what you want, do some planning and then take action immediately despite what excuses or other negative things your thoughts and emotions may put up in your way. Know that they may just want to protect you from uncertainty and risks. But also know that you are in charge of them and not the other way around.

Secondly, persist! Persistence might not exactly be the best sounding quality. It might not sell a lot of products to people looking for the magic pill. But it is an immensely helpful quality to develop and put to use. If you fail, you dust yourself off and try again. If the success you are looking for does not come that quickly, then you have to persist. Persistence may be one of the most useful qualities one can have - Not only because you will be achieving things when a lot of other people have given up, but also because developing patience and being persistent will enable you to get what you really want. It may just take a little longer than you had hoped for.

Lastly, take responsibility for your own life. When we are kids adults take care of us, they take responsibility. But to become an adult, one has to take responsibility for oneself. There is no other way. Letting someone else take the responsibility or blame may be easier on you, but without taking responsibility for yourself how can you be free and achieve your goals? How can you really live up to your own potential and dreams? It can be hard to break out of the comfort zone, but if you do not then you will be trapped by other people's standards, expectations and limitations. You have to set your own rules for your life and go for your goals!"

Not feeding the kids, is indeed an unfortunate thing. Your Grand kids do need to be taken care of well. I am a mother of 2.5 year old. Am currently not working just to take care of my son, am staying home and thus gained lot of extra kilos :D

Hi Bindu. Not feeding the kids is inexcusable really. I remember how hard it was when my kids were very young, not to pick at everything or to eat their leftovers. Best to waste them Bindu, rather than add them to your waste. It adds up over time & then it is much harder lose again. We all need to look after those close to us, but that also includes ourselves. Thanks for visiting my diary. Cheers, Cate
Yesterday- Had a really good day gardening. We tidied up heaps! It was a bit cooler & we can see where we have been. I have gone 11 days now without eating processed food or added sugar & am 2kg lighter at last weighing. I feel so much better as my clothes are loose again!
Lots of love to all xoxo Cate

Hi Cate

Glad you are doing so well on your diet. Keep it up.

Do you perhaps know how I can move my diary over from Cohens to the Weight loss dairy thread?

Tx a mil

Hey Cate - sorry to hear on your ex-Daughter in law's stress/depression - now affecting her/distracting her from proper care of her children - I hope she does find some support forself - so that she can be a better mother... I hope things do settle- but am so glad you are there to give your grandkids a stable, loving place to come to.

Sorry to hear your YS in Canada didn't sound too chipper on Skype - some parts of Canada in winter can be quite dreary/snowy/cold...he might just be homesick for sunny Taz. ( I've grown up here- so am used to it - but I even find this post-new Yrs stretch a bit tiresome... starting to wait & wish for spring-weather- which usually doesn't start to appear until into March...)

I really enjoyed the Cohen's Positive Life post you shared - it inspired me- ...I've printed it & put it up beside my computer - to help keep me focused & forward on this journey-thankyu for sharing this gal.

Good work on the gardening-calorie burn ( fresh-air exercise in mother-nature is the best! )... and congrat's on the 2 Kg down !! ( u will be feeling so fit for your Italy/France trip...
