Cate's Diary

Sunflower- The venison casserole was one of the best G has ever cooked. One of our regular, but not local, customers in the pub had a hare meal at our pub & enjoyed it & talked about a German recipe she had for peppered hare. We thought it sounded really nice so she said she would drop it in next time she passed by, which she did. It appeared on our menu whenever we were brought hares & she loved that. Venison, which is a pest in Tasmania in the highlands especially is even more delicious. It is so lean. I digressed a bit there :)
LaMa- Pademelons are incredibly cute. I don't think G & I will move from here until we absolutely have to. I hadn't mentioned that we had a bat inside our living room the other night. We see them flying around at night outside, but occasionally one gets inside & then we have to do a bat rescue. It's easy really. We just turn off the inside lights, turn on the outside lights. open up all the sliding doors & watch it fly out. I love it.
Vague booking is awful & you're right should be ignored.
Em- I'm looking forward to the walking group tomorrow too. I love Vietnamese food. My pho bo is pretty good & close to being authentic I think. G makes delicious fresh spring rolls.
Rob (Alligatorob)- Pademelons, wallabies & echidnas are regulars on our land, but I don't take them for granted. G & I cut our own firewood & it's great exercise. Over half our 50 acres is bush & we have a section that we leave fairly well alone where lots of wildlife live. We just like to keep a track down through it & that's where we saw the wedge-tailed eagle. I am really hoping there is a nest somewhere down there & will really start looking now. They do range a fair distance though & we are not far from the great western tiers mountain range where I know there are a couple of nests.
Petal- I know. The things some people put on FB is just ridiculous. I'm glad it didn't exist when our sons were teenagers. :svengo: I'm just going to have a look occasionally from now on.
Amy- wedge-tailed eagles are very special. They are magnificent creatures & we felt really lucky to see one so close.

G & I had a good day yesterday at golf. It was a very long day. We left home at 7.15 & didn't get home until 5 pm.
I had felt out of sorts when I woke up as I had a nightmare at 5 am & couldn't get back to sleep. We played with a woman I had not met before, who seemed a bit prissy, but was friendly to me & another of G's golfing buddies. I played really badly & felt close to tears & so out of sorts that I nearly abandoned the game halfway through. I decided to see how I went on the next hole & then seemed to snap out of my funk, relaxed a bit & then played 2 of the best 2 shots I have ever played & ended up on the green in 2 & won a prize for it as no-one got closer (men or women). I did snap out of my weird mood & just played ok & had fun for the rest of the game.
The women at G's club are trying to get me to join, but I won't. I told them it's lovely to feel so welcome, but I would like to just come along & play with G on "fun" days. I do tell them that I think they have a great culture at the club & it's wonderful to see that men & women play together, without any us & them & they do things well. No matter what they say I won't join & no matter what they say at my old club I won't go back.
Their lunch was very healthy. Everyone got a cold marinated chicken drumstick & a piece of ham & then you had a huge selection of salads. Then there was a beautiful fruit salad with either cream or ice-cream.

That new golf club sounds like paradise! What a lovely lunch.

This is amazing Cate, well done.

It is a really nice golf club, Em & G is happy there & I am welcome to go along & play as often as I like on any comp days. Thank you, Em.

This is terrific! Absolutely wonderful to get that high, and to feel that yes, golf clubs can work well, people in them can be welcoming - so glad you had that day, to help rinse out the taste of the other stuff. And good for you in knowing what you want from this club - just visit, for fun, on comp days - and holding to that - I'm sure they tried hard to change your mind! (I love the sound of the fruit salad at lunch, too - it's ages since I had fruit salad!)
Wishing a lovely day to you, today, too!

Cate what a lovely day you had . You sound like it all turned around for you on the golf course and well done on getting a prize for a great shot .

Thanks, Amy, LaMa & Petal. It was a lovely day, but I do know that I do not want to be pressured too much. I think I want to do my own thing & play only occasionally at his club, even though I know I am really welcome. I do need to make my own plans & do my own thing. He got a call from his best buddy tonight, hoping to convince me to play again next Wednesday. The women play the vets & the women want me to boost their numbers. I feel it's a big push so don't know whether to play or not. My brain says no.
I got a call from my favourite local woman golfer(G) tonight as I had messaged her today after seeing in our local paper that one of our friends' husband has been missing for 2 days. I hope they find him very soon. It won't be good news, but better than never finding him. She is going to visit tomorrow & I asked her to pass on my love. So sad. She will let me know if she hears any news. We arranged to have lunch next Tuesday.
My plans for G's birthday on Saturday are in jeopardy as snow is forecast! I may have to abandon the plan, not tell him what the plan was & try to surprise him another time. I'll see what the next 2 days bring. Surprisingly I don't feel down about this.

Very true. What a horrible situation.

It is. I really feel for her. Some people have gone missing over the years and are never found & that would be much worse.
You should see how much snow is on the mountains & it is freezing. We haven't had the fire going for over a week & had put a cap on it. G has to get up on the roof to take it off but it keeps raining so it's not safe to go up there. It's as cold as it was mid-winter. The forecast for Cradle Mountain on Sat is -3 to 5 degrees celsius so that means we wouldn't be able to drive our car up there in the snow, let alone go up in a helicopter. Oh well. You never know....I'm not going walking today either because of the rain. Next week.
I feel very positive so that's a good thing. G & I are going to go do some food shopping today for the weekend. We'll have lots of options. D asked if he & the young GK's could stay Fri & Sat nights to make a weekend of it & R will be here both nights as well. I'll ask A to stay up here Sat night too. Regardless of the weather, we'll have some fun family time.

Very sorry to read about the man missing - just took off, or bushwalking? I hope there is good news, after all, though either way, town or bushwalking, it will be sickeningly worrying for those waiting for news. Lunch with friend G sounds good - she'll be very glad to catch up with you.

Rats! about the weather forecast, and maybe having to postpone the birthday surprise - though the all-in family camp (I'm calling it a camp because with so many surely some will be bunking on the floor!) sounds wonderful fun, too. How lovely things are right now round your way, when every option is looking so good! :)

Thanks, Amy. My friend's husband will have killed himself I'm afraid. It won't be good news.
I'm really doing well not worrying so much about my plans being thwarted yet again. It will be fun having everyone here & there will be at least one sleeping on a mattress on the floor in the snooker room, maybe 2.

I’m sorry about your friends husband . Very bad news indeed sadly all too common now . Sounds like you are all set for a good weekend . Is it the birthday on Saturday ?

Thanks, Petal & Han. No news yet. G's birthday is the 16th, but we're celebrating this Sat as we can all get together then.
I'm not sure I'll be able to be here for a couple of days.

Thanks, Petal. We had a change of plans this morning & are not leaving as early. Our BIL is back in the hospital so no home visit there & R is coming on a bus a few hours later so will get the bus to here.

Sorry to hear about your friend's husband, I hope he is found, but after this time the odds of a good outcome are getting slim.
Another one I had to look up, they look very interesting and exotic. Can the spines be hazardous to humans? They look a little like the spines on our porcupines, which can inflict a lot of pain. Fortunately, probably because of the spines, porcupines are not aggressive and rarely stick people, dogs are another story.

How goes the diet?

Not sure if you're here or already taking time away for the family camp/birthday fun! Whichever, cheers for a great time for you all. :seeya:

(With your friend's husband, if it's as you think, then may he have organised something not painful and not traumatic for the survivors, especially his wife and family.)
