Cate's Diary

Hi cate I am sure that with support and communication R will make the right decisions .
Marsia my friend did that ketosis diet and lost serious weight but she still never really eats carbs at all now . Her fruit intake is low and she as far as I can see gets lots of viruses etc. I'm not sure if it is diet related . On the other hand she looks fantastic and has a great figure . I tried the Atkins diet for about a week but I didn't stick to it .
It's so hard lol

I'm not on speaking terms with Cupid OR Hera or I'd put in a good word ;) Really curious what your exercise therapist will say!
I got a great report LaMa. I did lots of tests. She seemed surprised at how well I did on some & said I am strong & have great balance, so that was good. I'll do some copying & pasting & then print up what she sent me, but I probably won't get the chance until Thursday.
Hi Cate, wow, I haven't been keeping up and so much has happened in your life in a little over a week. I am sad you didn't get called to do the show on chemical sensitivities because although it would have been stressful, you could have gotten to voice your concerns and to help educate people. Do you know when the show airs?

I had a friend who was bipolar, and it's so hard not to worry about rashness and making "look before you leap" decisions. I think you're doing great at letting your son make decisions and trying what works for him, but giving input where needed, too!

I don't understand the stuff about recording steps as I am not technological and don't even have a smartphone, but I do admire how you are not letting the scale stop you from forging ahead and finding what works!!! Have you tried the ketosis diet at all? I saw some stuff on it when I looked up intermittent fasting, and it seems interesting about not having sugar so your body goes into fat burning mode instead of sugar burning mode. I thought sugars turn into fat, so am wondering what this is all about. Do you think it's worth looking into?
Hi, Marsia. I'm OK with not being on the documentary now as I think it was really good. It was on last night. There are a few links to it-
It’s on Youtube, Facebook and SBS On Demand.

I have had a good talk to R about starting on medication & also on not sending me messages late at night that will have me lying awake for hours. He never intended buying that block apparently.
I have a Fitbit & I love seeing how many steps I do, especially on a golf day. I have not tried getting into ketosis, but Trusylver follows a keto diet. It works well for lots of people. I'll stick with doing 5:2 as it's better for me mentally. I don't consume much sugar anyway, except in my fresh fruit.

Hi, Petal. Thanks for your encouragement re R. Losing weight is not easy & I think we all follow different paths, but not giving up is the main thing. There are no easy answers.

I have been doing a FD today & also feel really tired after our big day in town yesterday. I'm looking forward to dinner, but especially looking forward to tomorrow's breakfast. I am very hungry! I'll live though :)

Thanks, Petal. I don't think I am being strict enough on the FD's & am creeping over the 500 cals. No weight lost this week yet. I am going to put 500 cals together plated up on the kitchen bench & stick to that tomorrow. No golf today as we are experiencing wild, gusting winds up to 120 kph & rain.
I might go do & sort out my exercise program, so I can print it up.
I'm feeling a bit unsettled today & out of sorts.

Hi Cate! Wow, the video is eye opening. I knew there were people with extreme sensitivities, but I never thought about how isolating that could be. I know exactly what they are talking about. If I am on the verge of getting sick and I walk anywhere near the cleaning isle in the supermarket, I can smell each toxic smell and feel what it is doing to close up my throat or make my eyes water or my head pound. But to be like that or worse all the time - I really feel for you!!! And since people aren't cookie cutter and there are thousands of toxins in the environment I can see why the medical world doesn't know what to do. But to dismiss it as psychological is so ridiculous. I wonder if much research is being done to prove how bad this is for everyone, not just the chemically sensitive? Thanks so much for the link!

I'm so sorry you lay awake worrying about your son, and glad you got to tell him not to send random worrying stuff! It's so hard not to worry about kids without something like bipolar influences!!

Keto sounds like something to try if I hit a big wall and need something more hardcore. I think I'll wait and see if I need to get that tough on myself! Fruit is too good to give up willingly!!

Hope you made it though the fast day without having to struggle too much!!

Hi Petal, I have never tried Atkins, but think I'll stick with mostly whole foods for now. Though I am losing slowly, it's way better than slowly gaining, so I think I'll increase exercise for now. Thanks!

I didn't reply earlier when on as didn't gave time . Now I'm really tired as past 11 pm lol but yeah good idea to weigh out your 500 cals daily .
I have to admit I think about you and your chemical allergies all the time we should all be aware and be more mindful of others .

Hi Marsia & thank you for your very thoughtful post. The doco will hopefully make some people more aware. There are many people who refuse to acknowledge that it is not real, unfortunately, but there will always be those people. The fragrance industry is very rich & powerful & is not very regulated.
Hi, Petal. That's sweet that you think of me & also that you are more mindful of others.
I'm not sure that you can get the book where you are, but Kate Grenville, a well-known Australian author (who was interviewed on The Feed) has written a book called "The Case Against Fragrance" which is an eye-opener. I was so glad that they interviewed her!
Today is FD 2 & I have my food set out for the day.
Lunch will be a hard-boiled egg, a stick of celery, 30g cucumber & a cup of Miso(1.2 tbsp miso paste in hot water)88 cals
Late afternoon- 1 egg, more celery 66 cals
Dinner- leg ham & hot veggies 218
After dinner- 1 kiwi fruit & 1/2 an orange-81
Leaving 47 cals which can be a few crackers with Hummus if I feel hungry. Total 500.Then back to 1650 a day until next Tuesday.

Got through yesterday's 500cal FD much easier & it may have been because I ate solid food, rather than soup, but also I may just be getting used to it. Even if the weight is being stubborn, I feel better.
Have the GK's tonight & had better get moving.
We have our delightful trip to the tip today & it is bigger than usual as we have rounded up our son/GS's recycling as well. Time to move! :(

Hi Cate, I had to laugh because before when I asked you about if bringing the rubbish to the tip meant bringing the garbage to the dump, I was familiar with rubbish being trash, but had no idea what the tip would be. Now you write about a lovely trip to the tip, and I picture you and all your recycling bags sitting together out on some beautiful peninsula overlooking the ocean!

Glad you are feeling good from the fast day! That's great!!

I'm glad I made you laugh, Marsia & you actually just made me laugh out loud. I was definitely being facetious. The tip was a horrible bog. No nice views out there, I'm afraid, but at least the job is done!
We were an extra 2 hours as G got asked to do some mowing & I had to go to the tip on my own. I wasn't happy about that.
I just pictured me sitting by the ocean :D
I am SO hungry! About to have grilled lamb chops & lots of veggies. Yum!

Yum, grilled lamb chops and veggies! I ate so much salad today, have to have more protein tomorrow.

Actually that would be a fun comic strip, someone saying something typical for their country's variation on the English language, and how people from other English speaking countries picture what has been said. Glad it made you happy picturing being by the ocean instead of by a stinky bog!

Marsia- language differences can be hilarious. I upset my sister by using the American words for things when I visited her. She wanted to hear all of our Australian words as she was homesick. Lunch was delicious!
LaMa- I'll check that video out tomorrow when the GK's go home. Re: exercise- I have not been doing much at all! I'm not sure why not. My back has been a bit sore & I have been feeling a bit tired this week.
Em- imagination can come in handy, that's for sure. I'll try to imagine I'm somewhere lovely next time :)
Tired tonight & it's kids bed-time. Will catch up tomorrow xoxo

As popular as stretching is, it doesn´t really do that much. Improved circulation helps relieve the part of the pain that´s due to muscle strain, movement "distracts" your brain from pain signals and reassures it nothing really bad is happening to it and muscle activation helps to support whatever structure is struggling and causing the pain. I´m sure people have put it into words better elsewhere but I´d say that´s the gist of it.

That's good enough for me, LaMa.I had decided to start today when the kids go. G is playing golf so I'll be on my own later. The exercise physio said riding my bike is really good for my hips & they are hurting so I will start with that.
Enjoying having the kids. We brought A up for dinner last night & dropped him back home again afterwards & the 2 younger kids stayed the night. It was lovely. Young C just said he wishes he was staying longer. I love these kids!

I can't agree that stretching isn't beneficial - I spend too much time with yoga teachers!

When you compress your body too much from sitting, nothing works the way that it should. Side stretches are fantastic for reactivating the lungs. I always think of stretching as a way of releasing pain. I remember how limber I was as a child and it's a fantastic way to be.

Glad you enjoyed the family time.

I'll be riding my bike, then doing some stretches(in particular calf stretches & some trunk rotations & standing thoracic reaching & twisting) & then some exercises including wall/bench push ups, squats, bicep curls, clock stepping, triceps extensions & calf raises. I'll definitely do this after I drop the kids off. I'll start with 5 km on my bike & 1 set & then either do a second set of the exercises straight away or repeat this afternoon.
Better scoot. GK's to talk to!
