Casey's Diary, Part Deux!

First of all, does anyone remember me? I posted from January to June of this year.

Second, I love this Conehead smiley...:conehead:

What a crazy summer. Too much partying and not enough exercising. I kept my calories down by smoking and drinking alcohol. I quit smoking in September. I gained 3 to 5 pounds, but I would much rather have those extra pounds on me than be addicted to cigarettes again. I've started and quit smoking quite a few times, but I am positive I have kicked the habit.

So....a week after I quit smoking, I started training for a half-marathon. I don't really know why. I needed something to pour my energy into and to keep me motivated to stay smoke-free. It has worked! I am positively addicted to running. I have trouble keeping away from cigarettes at bars/parties, so I am consciously staying away from that environment. My longest run so far has been 10 miles (the half is 13.1). I'm going for 11 this afternoon, so wish me luck!

As far as my diet...I'm eating everything in sight. It's great. I'm getting fruits and veggies, and I actually started eating fish for more protein. But I'm also partaking in poptarts on a regular basis. I thought it would be a good idea to start documenting my food intake again. After the half-marathon, I'm sure I will still want to eat the same amount of calories I am now, but I will be exercising much less. I think I will wait until after the marathon to start tracking my food and calories again. Right now I just eat when I'm hungry (which is all the time) and try to replace all my expounded energy. I'm not really trying to lose weight. There is still that extra 5-10 pounds I'd like to get rid of, but I'm saving that goal for another day.

Overall, I'm happy with my physique. The mileage has given me strong, (mostly) lean legs. Stomach is (mostly) flat. I think I look pretty good. I like what I see in the mirror, but I want to LOVE what I see. You know what I mean?

Anyhoo, sorry this post is so long. I look forward to reading about everyone!

Casey

Yesterday's Run: 11 miles, in 2 hours. Very rewarding but so glad it's over! Today I get the day off, then four miles on Tuesday. Body is a bit achey but I'm not nearly as sore as I thought I would be.

Walmart this afternoon....gotta get fruits and veggies!

how could we forget your beautiful face... nice to see you back :)

way to go for training for the half marathon -that's going to be a remarkable accomplishment when you complete it... :D much better than smoking :D

Thanks Mal!

Yesterday was my day off. Stressed myself out because I waited til the last minute to study for an important test...like always...I think I did okay on it though. Also had boy problems last night....I broke up with Greg in June and since then I've had terrible luck. Blleeegghh, long story.

ANYWAY...running a 4-miler this afternoon and I'm looking forward to it. The weather is chilly but I love running in cold weather. Soreness is getting better but my feet are pretty beat up.

CASEY! YOU'RE BACK! :D

That is super cool! LOL! Yes, this summer I partied too--but no cigarettes to help me keep the weight down--I swear, most of my smoker friends are pretty thin! I am so glad you quit! Also, congratulations on the half-marathon training. I've been contemplating that all year! I'm pretty sure I'll do one in March. Anyway, have a great day!

:waving: Howdy Casey welcome back and GL to you!Wow 11 miles in 2 hours very very impressive!Keep up the gr8 work have a wonderful day Tammy:waving:

Congrats on quitting smoking! It's such a hard habit to kick (I don't do it but, I have friends who do who are always "trying" to quit).

Training for a 1/2 marathon seems like it would be a great motivater to not smoke and keep running.

I am running right now too. I am not training for a 1/2 marathon or anything. Just trying to continue my weight loss. I ran 5 miles at once for the first time the other day. Wasn't as bad as I thought, and had a terrific runners "hi" afterwards. Never get tired of those. I am trying right now to run 3-5 miles 5 times per week. Maybe one day I will be able to do 11 but, not for now :)

I also know what ya mean about beat up feet. I have a few blisters, nothing too serious, I have had worse, believe me. My feet just feel tired, and kind of achy when I lay in bed at night.

Keep up the good work,
-Sam:)

Thank you guys for all the support. I have decided to log my food intake, because I just feel like I'm eating way too much.

So far:

Breakfast:
2 whole wheat eggos
1 cup chocolate soymilk
Total: 280

Lunch:
2 slices wheat bread
1 serving fake turkey
1 serving carrots
1 apple, sliced with 1.5 tbl peanut butter
1 Special K bar
Total: 560

Snack:
1 Snickers Marathon bar
1 serving Baked Tostitos
2 servings salsa
Total: 370

Overall total so far: 1210

Dinner will be pizza, it's a required social event with my sorority. Let's assume I eat four slices of cheese pizza. (840)

Overall total: 2050 cals
Not bad, I think.

I was going to run 4 or 5 miles but got rained on after 1.5. I have been spending too much time on the treadmill lately and thought I'd go nuts if I got on it so I just decided to call it a day. The weather is supposed to improve tomorrow, I think.

Weighed in at 157 this morning...carrying water. I usually weigh in around 154 or 155. I know that number's higher than it was earlier this year but I got a new scale in October. I'm trying to think about what I want my goals to be...I'm trying not to focus on numbers. Losing ten pounds would be nice, though. Actually, I have a pair of pants that I bought over the summer that I am convinced have shrunk...I don't fit in them anymore and they're MUCH shorter than when I bought them...I'd like to fit in those. I think that's a reasonable goal. I'm losing weight more for vanity than health and I know that I look nice at my weight now. I just have a few areas that I'd like to be smaller.

I know, I got hit with a ton of bricks in the vanity department. It's a time like this where a complete spiritual loss of ego would be good....

Are you my height? I can't remember....

Congrats on the food, I hope the weather dries out enough for you to enjoy an outdoor run :)

Hey there Casey. Sorry to hear you got rained on after only a mile and a half. I wish I could go running outside, it is just so cold out (Nov. in Utah), and I am sure it will only get worse. Besides, I'm a big wuss, lol :) So, instead I have to make friends with the treadmill. I haven't ran in a few days because I have been fighting a cold. I even went to the gym today to meet with my pt and do a leg routine. He took it a little easy on me, and I didn't do my cardio

I'm planning on doing it tomorrow though. Core and cardio in the morning before work. Hopefully I do it. I talk myself out of the gym too easily while lying in my warm bed, lol.......

Sammy---
I have been running on the treadmill a LOT lately. I'm pretty sick of it but the weather has been awful this week. I'm going to do five miles on the treadmill about an hour from now. I have been seriously slacking, after a six-mile run on Thursday (I think) I did three Saturday night and none Sunday OR Monday and only a mile and a half yesterday.

Ate more pizza than I planned out last night...saw the cheese, grease, and fatty goodness and decided not to keep track of how much I consumed. Probably had around six pieces. Plus, dipped my crust in DELICIOUS honey butter (I know, it can't get much worse, pizza and butter). Just reminded myself that I need to get used to limiting my food intake again.

Weighed in at 159 due to the pizza from last night and water-weight (I start my period in six days and I bloat TERRIBLY the week before). I hate hate hate being this close to 160 :(

Today's Menu

Breakfast:
2 whole wheat Eggos
1 cup chocolate soymilk
(280)

Lunch:
2 slices whole wheat bread
3 slices fake turkey
1 apple
1.5 tbl peanut butter
1 Special K bar
1 serving carrots
(540)

Snack:
1 100-cal Balance bar
1/2 serving chips
1 serving salsa
(185)

Dinner:
whole wheat rotini with spaghetti Sauce
(600)

Total thus far: 1605

I might have to eat again before I go to bed. If I get hungry, I will. I can already see in the past few days of recording my food intake that I need MORE fresh fruits and veggies and LESS packaged food. Sigh. Here we go again.

CG--I'm five feet seven inches tall. A little shorter than you??? Can't remember exactly.

Casey

Hey there,

Don't feel too bad about the pizza. I am the same way with pizza, it is a trigger food for me for some reason. I think it's a major comfort food for me because I worked in a pizza store thru all of highschool and some of college, it brings back good memories. When theres pizza around all bets are usually off for me, unless i sit there and white knuckle it the whole time, lol... pizza sounds so good right now. mmmmmmm. grease!!! :)

I have a total love/hate relationship with the treadmill. If I am going to run on the treadmill, there are a few things I have to have. I have to have my ipod, anytime I work out now, its a must and makes the time go by a lot faster. I also take a towel with me and cover up the readings that display on the treadmill (like the distance, speed, time, etc.) I find if I cover those up and only check them very periodically, my workout goes by much faster. I set goals. I will count the songs I am listening to and go by that. For example, I will say I am going to run for like 5 songs before I look at how far I have gone. Probably a dorky quirk of mine and perhaps a little OCD but, it works for me, hehe...

I'm also with you on the whole fresh fruits and veggies. I need to get my butt to the store and fill up my fridge. I don't really have anything to eat at my house except protein powder.

-Sam

Last night I ended up having 2 cups of pink lemonade and four shots of vodka---400 cals!!! Oh well. Can't undo it now.

Anyway...today's menu...

Breakfast:
2 whole wheat eggos
1 cup soymilk
Total: 280

Lunch:
1 six inch tuna salad sub on wheat, no cheese, with onions, pickles, and honey mustard
1 bag of Ruffles (they were out of baked chips---wtf???)
Total: 740

Snack:
1 spoonful peanut butter
Total: 190

Dinner:
Thanksgiving party---macaroni and cheese, sweet potato pie, green bean casserole, roll, green beans, broccoli casserole
(This all fit on one medium-sized plate)
700 (guess)

Total: 1910 (approx)

Not too shabby!

Last night's five miler on the treadmill seemed to take forever. I guess it's because it had been awhile since I had run that distance. Going for four tonight. Sammy---I do the exact same thing on the treadmill. I count songs!!! How bizarre...I thought I was the only one that did that.

I'm proud of myself...I wanted to get seconds and dessert at the Thanksgiving party but I knew I would be too full to exercise if I did. So I restrained myself! :) I need to do better on fruit and veggie intake. I got veggies tonight, it's just that most of them were covered in cheese/marshmallows.

Hoping to do eight miles OUTDOORS after work tomorrow, take Saturday off, and do twelve miles Sunday afternoon. Then one more week of running and one week of a little running and walking and the half-marathon is here!!!!!

Steve---thanks for the welcome!

Hey great job Casey! nice willpower, and I LOVE your runs. I screwed up my outer knee yesterday and I'm pretty bummed out about it, but hopefully it will feel better so I can run as well.

I hope you have a wonderful night! :hug2:

I had some Sunny D last night and forgot to include a Special K bar I had yesterday, so that bumps the cals up to around 2100. Blegh.

Last night's run went okay...kind of ready for something different. I was signed up for Cardiokickboxing class in the spring but I had to cancel it for a history class. Maybe I can take rhythmic aerobics or weightlifting instead. I think I just need time outside.

I feel you on the time outside. Too bad I'm not closer to you, we could try freestyle rock climbing together! :D Have a great weekend!
