Capua, Shall I Begin?

Hey Tik, Cheers, both for the congrats and for finding my postings funny. I won't be proud till I hit my target, and get myself back to martial arts training. I could go right now, but at the gym where I'm hoping to train, most of the guys and gals are involved in some level of competition, both pro and amateur, and I'd feel like a total bum walking in there out of shape.

It's late right now, so gonna head off to sleep, but I'm gonna check out your diary tomorrow. Hope you're doing well!!!

I took kick boxing last year and LOVED it- but everyone else was in such fantastic shape. The instructor would yell "get down and give me 50" and the people would pop out 50 push ups by the time I got to 6!

They always said that it's not just about coming to class, but also improving your fitness outside of class...and when you do this, you'll be better at the sport- hit harder, and kick further. I think it's true!

It's fantastic that you have a goal to work towards - not just weight, but the goal to get back in to your training! :) Were you competitive before? It seems like a fantastic sport to participate in!

Nah, I never got into it in a competetive manner, I suppose I could have if I kept at it, but quit way before I got to that level. The Muay Thai instructor, who claimed to be a top ranking army trainer in Thailand before moving to Britain, turned out to be a bit of a fraud. This was the same martial arts gym that didn't even bother letting us know small details such as needing a license and insurance. To honest I don't know how they managed to operate for so long, it was a total cowboy operation.
This kinda put me off, and I stopped training altogether, even my other martial arts that I was training a couple of nights a week under a proper instructor.

By now I'm possibly too old, 30, to begin any kind of serious attempt at a martial arts career so I just want to train for my health and enjoyment really. The gym I've recently discovered seems very promising, they require all students to have, at the very least, their license, gloves and a proper mouthpiece made to fit by a dentist before you are even considered for membership.

Not too sure if I'll manage to make my target of joining at the end of march, but I know for sure that I'll be in there before the beginning of summer!

That sounds great! You gym sounds very serious! But that's good...I don't know much about these sports- but even if you're not doing it professionally, there must be some amateur leagues you could compete in?

Day 24 Report (28th January):

Another decent day, as far as diet goes, but didn't manage to get any exercise in. I think it'll be important to try and get some decent runs in over the weekend, maybe 2 longish runs of 5-6 miles each on both saturday and sunday might give me a bloody good kick up the bum for being lazy today. Lifting weights is still off the menu as my right shoulder is still giving me a few problems. I really must make an effort to make a doctor's appointment, as although I've had several problems with the same shoulder, they usually sort themselves out within a couple of days. This time it's been nearly two weeks.:banghead:

Food and drink for today:

Wake up: 8am
Breakfast - 8.30am: 1x poached egg on dry wholemeal toast, cup of earl grey tea with semi skimmed milk, no sugar, glass of orange juice and a red pear.
Throughout morning: 2 litres bottled water, 2 cups of green tea no sugar
12.45pm: Rainbow trout fillet with large salad (lettuce, cherry tomatoes, salad onions, celery), glass of orange juice.
3.30pm: grilled bacon (4 rashers) sandwich with wholemeal bread, low fat butter spread, Red pear, cup of green tea, no sugar
7.30pm: Pork chop (fat trimmed) with roast potatoes (5), mini yorkshire pudding (2) and the largest portion of veg I think I've ever seen (broccoli, peas, green beans, spinach, carrots) all in gravy (bisto mixed with an oxo cube, I'm not too sure how to make home made gravy).
Rest of evening: cup of earl grey tea, several glasses of perrier water.

Quite happy that todays food wasn't too bad, still feel a bit bloated from dinner, but I've skipped the pub again so no needless calories in the form of beer. I've noticed my face is looking a little thinner than it was towards the end of last year, and that's usually the first place where my weight loss begins, so I'm definitely going in the right direction.

Good idea, I think I'll look into that somewhere along the line. On the gyms website they post all the results of the competitions that their students enter, and it seems like they fully support all their fighters every step of the way in all their tournaments. Might be a good place to begin :boxing:

You food today sounds delicious!!

Keep up the good work :) and I hope your shoulder gets better!

Cheers!

Day 25 report (29th January):

Had an absolutely awesome day today, exactly what I needed to give me a much needed shove in the right direction. My day consisted of good food, two sessions of intense exercise, watching my team snatch a replay in the FA Cup from the jaws of defeat and concluded with watching the new episode of Spartacus Gods of the Arena. Living the dream, baby, living the dream lol!!!

Looking at my second run of the day, it doesn't seem all that impressive 3.5 miles in 35 minutes, but it was a much more intense workout than the earlier run. By the end I was dripping sweat, breathing heavily, shirtless and almost too tired to do my warm down stretches. When I began, I was so eager to get going that I forgot to turn off my central heating or open any windows, which is usually an essential, but I'd started and 90% of the time if I stop for any reason, I don't get going again. So I battled on, and managed 3 miles straight without my customary walk intervals inbetween short run intervals, just a short walk bookending either side of the run. It's the longest I've managed in one constant interval, so I'm pretty pleased with myself. I've heard so many times from commentators on various MMA events that people who train in hotter climates or higher altitudes generally have greater cardio capacity, and I fully understand that now so I might be leaving the windows shut a few more times in future as it seems like a good simulation of a hot climate with very little fresh air to breathe.

Anyway, here's todays stats:

Food and drink for today:

Wake up: 8am
Breakfast - 8.10am: Red pear and black coffee no sugar (neither of which tasted very good having just brushed my teeth).
9am - 10am: 2 litres bottled water during run
10.30am: 5 sticks of celery dipped in peanut butter, glass of orange juice
12.30pm: Chicken breast with LARGE Servings of broccoli, green beans and carrots, and a small serving of macaroni cheese (one serving spoon sized portion), glass of perrier water and cup of green tea with no sugar.
3.30pm - 4.05pm: half litre of bottled water during run.
6.30pm: Cod fillet with large salad (Lettuce, Cherry tomatoes, celery, rocket leaf), glass of orange juice, cup of green tea.
Throughout evening: 2 cups of earl grey, 2 cups of horlicks.

I guess my mind was properly in the game today, and I just went for it. Turning the corner? Maybe! This week is going to be my week where it all clicks into place finally, my shoulder is feeling a lot better, I guess resting it has helped massively and I'll be back on the weights on monday!!!

This week is going to be my week

*snap snap snap* You go sistah!!!

That's fantastic! Your motivation and enthusiasm is so contagious!

And holy heck, your running is fantastic (totally jealous- but will challenge you to a running duel sometime in the far far far FAAAR future!).

You should be very proud of yourself! And I hope that your shoulder clears up- it's a pain when you have yet another bump in the road- but you seem to be handling everything wonderfully!

Thank you again for the diet advice! It's much appreciated!

Keep up the good work!

PS: I'm going to have to swipe the playlists from here and see if the music helps me!! hehe

Day 26 Report (30th January):

I didn't think it was quite possible, but every day now seems to be getting increasingly better. Managed a shiteload of good exercise today, and ate well. Minimal, but well.

I was just getting ready to go for my run this morning when I got a phone call with a much better offer. Kickabout in the park? Hell yeah, despite the near freezing temperature I was well up for that. First football session of the new year, we usually meet up a couple of times a week when it's a lot warmer. Instead of my running shorts and T-shirt, I put on a pair of trackies and a nice warm hoodie, popped my football boots in a bag, and ran the mile or so to the park in about 10 minutes. The session lasted about two and a half hours before our customary sunday afternoon drink in the pub, in which I opted for sparkling spring water, a source of great amusement to my mates, as I was planning on having a nice long run later and didn't want to have any alcohol in my system.

Here is today's important stuff:

Food and drink for today:

Wake up: 8am
Breakfast: 8.30am - 2 x poached eggs on dry wholemeal toast, red pear, black coffee, glass of orange juice.
10am - 12.30pm: 2 x powerade and a litre of water during football session.
1pm - 2pm: Ham and tomato sandwich (only had white bread) and 3 glasses sparkling mineral water in the pub.
3pm: Tin of tomato soup, and 2 slices wholemeal bread, cup of green tea, glass of water
6.30pm - 7.50pm: 3 litres of bottled water during run
8.30pm: Vegetable lasagne, basically my bolognese recipe, but replace the meat with courgettes, aubergine, red and green peppers and double the mushrooms. Glass of sparkling perrier water.
Throughout evening: 2 more litres of perrier water.

Exercise for today:

10am-12.30pm: Football session in the park, not a match as there were only 5 of us, just a kickabout session with lots of running and sprinting, mainly chasing after the ball to stop it hitting the herd of deer grazing nearby, as we're pretty bad at passing the ball between us!

Evening run, 6.30pm - 7.50pm:
Time: 78.09 Minutes
Distance: 8.1 miles
Calories burned: 938 Cals

Playlist for this run:

Round 1
1 Pride FC Opening theme - walk 4mph
2 Arch Enemy - Enemy Within - Run 7-8mph
3 In Flames - Dead End - Run 6.5-7mph
4 Divine Heresy - Redefine - Run 8-9mph
Round 2
5 Ill Bill - War is my Destiny - Walk 4mph
6 As Friends Rust - Won't be The First Time - Run 6.5mph
7 Life of Agony - Through and Through - Run 6mph
8 Agnostic Front - For My Family - Run 7mph
9 Sick of it All - Death or Jail - Run 7mph
10 Dropkick Murphys - Famous for Nothing - Run 8mph
Round 3
11 Jedi Mind Tricks - Black Winter Day - Walk 4mph
12 Cannibal Corpse - Hammer Smashed Face - Run 8mph
13 The Berzerker - Corporeal Jigsore Quandary - Run 7mph (Yes I know the original was better, but I haven't ripped the Carcass CD yet)
14 Lock Up - Triple Six Suck Angels - run 8-9mph
15 Dim Mak - Knives of Ice - Run 9mph
Round 4
16 Jedi Mind Tricks - Uncommon Valour - Walk 4mph
17 Sabaton - Ghost Division - run 6.5mph
18 Dragonforce - Operation Ground Pound - Run 7-8mph
19 Elvenking - Not my Final Song - Run 8-9mph
20 Paloma Faith - Play On - Walk 4mph

Phew, that run was a killer, I absolutely gave it everything I had and I'm extremely glad that I did. Definitely gonna sleep well tonight!

I've decided to set myself a few little challenges/rules to complete in February:

-NO BEER THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MONTH!!! This is the most important bit, it demoralises me and makes me lazy and weak when lifting weights!
-MINIMUM 3.5lbs lost per week, with a total of 14lbs lost by March 1st.
-MINIMUM of 2 runs per day, with a MINIMUM of 5 miles per run, with an optional rest day once per week.
-Evening meal must be meat or fish and salad, no evening carbs!!!
-MINIMUM 3 full body weights sessions per week as I need to build up my strength, I have some great supps on order for a two month bulking cycle to begin either March or April!
-Must be up by 8am at the latest every single day in February!

WELCOME TO BOOT CAMP MISTER! LMAO

Honestly I feel I could be putting in a lot more effort than I have been, no excuses this month!!!!

I have plenty of motivation to go round :hurray: feel free to help yourself, it's like a buffet of energy :coolgleamA:

Awww, cheers for the praise, but I don't deserve it just yet, only when I get to where I'm meant to be :blush5: If I can help you while I'm on my way then I'll be more than happy!!!

Feel free to nick my playlists, thats why I post them to give people an idea of what kind of intervals I'm using and maybe to inspire them to use a similar system! The only reason it works for me though is that I know the songs inside out, and most of the time I'm singing along while running, amongst other embarrassing gestures such as punching the air, and doing air drum rolls along to the songs. It gives me that extra little boost of energy that I wouldn't get otherwise. Seriously, if I ever post a video of my treadmill sessions online you'd piss your pants with laughter!!!

Wow you are doing really well and your food looks awesome, esp. the lasagna. You're doing awesome! Totally serious about your fitness.

You're doing really well--Very motivating! I'm off to the pub for lunch now and I'm def going to be making a healthier choice after reading a few pages of your diary--So motivating! Have a great day :)

P.S. You have fucking sweet music taste.

lol, Sunflower, sorry 'bout the lame generic reply I posted earlier, I was keeping an eye on the transfer deadline day news on Sky Sports News, and the BBC and The Sun websites, and as such wasn't really putting much thought into my reply!!! So exciting, if we get Torres :hurray:

Anyway, how was your lunch, did you go for the healthier option? Cheers for the compliments on the music, and I shall see you about on the forum, have you got your own diary thingy?

*EDIT* Lol, how blind am I, it's sitting just below mine in the thread index!!!!

I'm reading your food tracking and dying a little inside.
I wish I knew how to cook!
I eat so much processed food it's not even funny.

Day 27 (31st January):

First up:

FERNANDO TORRES AND DAVID LUIZ!

F**KING AMAZING! SO HAPPY!

Ahem, now that's out of my system, on with the unimportant stuff! Had a so-so day, spent most of the day on the internet and in front of the TV watching the transfer deadline day news, I've never had Sky Sports News on for so long, since 10am this morning and it's still on nearly 14 hours later. Seeing as tomorrow is the start of my ultra Spartan February, I thought I'd have a bit of a cheat day today so I relaxed my diet a bit for a one off, and chilled with a couple of beers. I've had a good week since last monday so why not?

Food and drink for today:

Wake up - 8am
Breakfast - 8.30am: 2 x poached eggs, 4 x bacon rashers grilled, tin of heinz spaghetti hoops, coffee with milk and 1 spoon fruit sugar (low GI apparently), glass of orange juice, red pear
Throughout rest of morning - Litre of perrier water and 2 cups of green tea no sugar
1pm: 2 x chipolata sausage sandwiches on wholemeal bread with low fat butter, powerade.
4.30pm: Chopped chicken breast in sweet and sour sauce (from a jar, the sauce not the chicken) with cous cous and broccoli and green beans, glass of orange juice and litre of perrier water
8pm - 8.30pm: half a litre bottled water during run
9pm: Breaded chicken strips with oven chips and ketchup,
Rest of night: 4 beers

Exercise:

Treadmill run:

Time: 28.52 minutes
Distance: 2.6 Miles
Calories: 306 cals

I could have done a lot more, but was WAY too distracted with the excitement in the Premier League. I did spend most of the day anxiously pacing back and forth around my living room :willy_nilly:, praying the transfer would be completed, does this count as exercise? LOL

Totally pumped up for February now!!!

All your food sounds AMAZING. I'm insanely jealous that you eat so well whilst on a diet. I'm useless in the kitchen. Good luck with starting Spartan Feb tomorrow!
