Calves??

hey everyone, i got a quick question for anyone to answer..... i've been lookin for some good excercises to work on my legs...havent found many, so i came to the forums.... i'm a drummer, and want to increase my foot speed...so i'm thinking, leg excercises!!! , i workout at home, and dont have any fancy 'leg raise' machines...so any good workouts with regular weights would be awesome!!

Try to get a gym membership.

With it, you'd be able to do excellent leg exercises like squats, deadlifts, leg presses, standing calf raises, seated calf raises, etc.

some dorsi flexions and plantar felxion exercises are the way to go for you...the front of your shins must cop a hammering so that's where the dorsi flexions come in...mix up partial and full range of motion work as all foot pedaling is only partial

With a barbell on your shoulders and maybe 30kg of weights (Maybe less).

just do 3 sets of 25 toe ups on a plank of wood.

so basically your doing tipy toes on the edge of the wood. works best if you don't drop your heel to the ground.

I struggle to do 3 sets of 25 and can hardly walk the next day but they have sculpt my calves a heap.

If your purely looking for speed then you dont want to do heavy weights. Even with streching your calfs will still get tighter and slower.

You need to work on getting the brain and body working together. The best thing you can do is sit at your kit and pedal the hi-hat and kick drum quickly in time. if you have a metronome, follow it at 120bpm for 30secs, then jump up to 130bpm and so on.

Just going fast wont help you in any way, you need to be follow a beat.

Note - I got this tip from my music college teacher who was the stand-in drummer for status quo.

Tho the info here for fitness and weight training is very good, if you want help with music, ask a musician.
