hello,I want to know something about calve raising.well ive notice poeple use a step or weights etc, when doing calve raises, and the way i do them is plain .I simply stand on my tipy toes and come down on my heels.will this way give me results and is it the same thing as using a step.I did see some result in my hops.well bigger calves mean bigger hops.right.Anyway is this way ok.Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

PS-Im thinking of doing 500 every day starting from 50 and going up,as days go by...this should give me stronger calves right, and i should see results in approximately .........would be better if professional exercise coach replied my question.thanks for your attention.

im not a professional exercise coach but im sure nearly every one around would agree with what im going to say...

this is as bad as when people do 500 sit ups a night in some vain attempt to get a six pack.

you'll improve your ability to stand on your tip toes and them drop down but thats about it. im not quite sure what your tryin to achieve; if you're wanting more calf muscle then treat them like any other body part, if you are simply after hopping bigger (!) then you need to look at squats, split squats, lunges, step ups, and a wider plyometric program.

as it stands your set to waste a lot of time going an inch or two up, then down, and up an inch, and down, and up an inch......

well what im trying to say is,You know how calve raises are done by standing on a step and standing on your tipy toes, well i do them like this.i just stand on my toe and come back down on my foot heels.will this motion work...and i want leg power to jump higher.....i hope you know what im trying to say...and thanks for answering

i know exactly what your trying to say but what i said still stands.

doing 500 calf raises will do nothing for leg power irrespective of how you do them,

they can be used as a small part of a wider program aimed at greater power but alone are pretty useless. you need a much wider knowledge of training and your goals before you can start anything.

you want to do a mixture of weighted and body weight movements, squats, deads, lunges, jumps, sprints etc etc.

benelson is right.

I'm not sure why exactly you seem so hung up on calf raises that all of your posts are about them. I would suggest reading around about programming.

Hi,

Doing calf raises on steps will help to increase the amplitude of the movement.

Using weights is necessary to reach muscle exhaustion in a repetition range of 10-20. 50 repetitions is too much, even for the calves.

If your ame is to jump higher you surely will have to to polymerics. Calf raises alone will not make you jump higher.

he means plyometrics; just in case you've started to incorporate larged mass-ed atoms with covalent bonds into your workouts
