How does everyone go about this? Do you write down how many cals you intake per day? And how do you find out out many calories are in somethings, like applies, bananas, etc that do not have nutrtional info on them bc u pick them, or they just don't have them? Is there a quick resource to get this info?
Also, with eggs, is there any particular way u should eat them, or is anything ok, as long as u eat them? (I'm trying to increase my protein.) one more q: I have a salad everyday for lunch. I have been putting popcorn chicken in it to add protein (it's the frozen kind, though). Is this ok, or should I go back to putting slices of ham in the salads?

TIA for ur help! :)

Hi Wendy,
I copied the calorie table from this website into an (always open) Excel spreadsheet for easy reference.

Another good protein source is turkey. Do you have a Costco in your area? They sell turkey breast baked, in its original shape, not like the processed deli stuff. It tastes delicious.
:)

Hi there,
there is a free site called that you can use. It lets you put all your foods in and tells you how many cals and how many grams of each macronutrient you have eaten. You can choose foods from it's database, and also add you own. It's kind of time consuming, but after a while you memorize how many calories foods are so you can just start making a list in your head.

Another good option for your salads is hard boiled egg whites.

Hope that helps.

Sarah

I use Fitday to the point of obsession. :) I like all the graphs and charts to help track everything. It's helped me to see progress in my running and has kept me from being too discouraged when I hit a long plateau. I actually bought the software instead of using the online version because it had more functions and I didn't need internet to access it! There are other similar programs online, but Fitday is my favorite. It seemed to be the easiest to use for me.

Ok, here is where I am after going to Fitday.com.

Cal intake for today was: 1996
Cals burned for today were: 3473 (1659 from activity)

So that means that I have to cut my caloric intake by about 400, right?

BTW Sarah - I'm in Maine, too! I can't believe we are in the same neck of the woods! I went to your website! WOW! I just may have to contact u!!!! :p

See this is why i just don't like fitday. There is no way you are burning 3473 calories a day. It told a friend of mine who burned roughly 2100-2300 that she was burning 3100 calories a day. I would use fitday only to chart your food and keep an eye on your intake, but wouldn't take any of their stats into a count for what you need.

go here to figure out your daily calorie needs and then yes deduct 400-500 calories from that and thats the daily total you should shoot for.

I personally think this crosstrainer program is better, its free for 30 days and if you like you can purchase it. I personally did as i felt it was worth it.

I agree....I only use Fitday for tracking, it is great for that. To figure out my calories or body fat % or anything else I check several (well, at least 6, but I'm obsessive) diferent online calculators and take an average. It's amazing how many different answers you can get giving the same info.

Indeed Senorita. I have found that Lynns site calculator is that "average" number you will get from doing all that. Also i did the Harris-Benedict formula and compared it to the figure i got on that site and it was almost exact. So Yeah wendy you can feel pretty confident using that calculator.
