Calisthenics and Strength Training

hey i was wondering if its possible to do a bodyweight cals routine and incoporate strength lifts with it, or would this be bad? if it is possible would it be beneficial and what would a sample routine be? my bodyweight routine was this daily:

- warm up stretches and jog
- hindu squats
- hindu push ups
- back bridging (for wrestling)
- jackknife sit ups
- underhand pull ups
- warm down stretches and walk

my coach said this was a good routine for wrestling and would help me get into better condition for the sport. it was done daily except for wrestling practice/tournament days. could the strength lifts be worked into this? please help.

Yup. You could skip the bodyweight stuff all together and run a high intensity Oly circuit. Google a routine called The Bear.

What you're looking for for conditioning is high levels of lactate accumulation which is what will happen during a wrestling match.

Here is an article I wrote up on training for wrestlers in my Theory of Coaching Wrestling class. The diagrams have been deleted but you'll get the jist of it.

hey evolution thanks alot that article is awesome, and i see the benefits of the olympic circuit but i do like bodyweight cals for endurance/flexibility. but the paper you wrote will keep me busy for awhile. thanks again.
