Butterfly’s Journey to Health

Thank you everyone! Since last weigh in a few days ago, old scale says I lost 1 lb and new scale says I've lost 2 lbs. I don't know which is right but I think it's safe to say I lost something. Might I add there is an 18 lb difference between the two scales, which I find really weird.

I typed in my medication it it says there may be an initial one-time weight gain of 2-4 lbs. Not too bad.

18 lbs difference? That´s insane  Glad to hear the meds aren´t going to be a long-term problem for your weight loss.

18lbs? That's crazy! I would put some new batteries in your old scales & see what they see.....making sure to keep really still :)

Yep, 18lbs. That wasn’t a typo. New batteries it is! And I’ll try not to fidget on the scale.

Other- Okay, so lunch was a disaster. Maybe a disaster and a half. But something good happened while at the buffet- they tried to sit me in a booth and I said to the waiter “I don’t fit in booths”. It was like a wake up call, I should fit in booths. It’s not that I don’t fit all, just not comfortably, as my stomach touches the table. Come to think of it, I fit tightly in other things too, such as the blood drawing chair at my doctor’s office and the MRI machine. So next time I need an MRI (I go every few years to check up on a resolved medical condition) I WILL more than barely fit in the machine. Also, I kind of imagined 2 of my doctors lecturing me while I was at the buffet, so I guess that ought to keep me from eating so much fried food again. If I ever go back to this buffet, the good news is all of the fried food is in one section so I can just avoid it completely next time. Out of everything I ate, the bean curd was actually my favorite so I may go back just for that. And I should have had more fruit instead, they had a large selection of it.

Don't get too down about lunch. Mistakes happen, right? I think it's good you took something away from it though.

What the others said. It may take a while to internalize these insights, but as long as we keep at it it WILL happen.

Thank you everyone, yeah, I’m still learning. I think I did better today.

I’m a college student and kind of crazed with end of semester work and finals, once that’s done for the semester (soon) I’ll start exercising.

The food you eat is more important to your weight-loss anyway butterfly. Some fresh fruit and/or yoghurt in there would be a handy & healthy snack. Do the best you can sweetie.

Thank you both! I just bought apples and pears actually. I’m lactose intolerant so regular yogurt is out. I’ve looked for dairy-free yogurt but they only sell the highly sweetened kind by me. I should try to cut the kettlecorn I guess. Perhaps I’ll get back into hardboiled eggs as snacks and replace the omelets with something else so I don’t get sick of eggs or raise my cholesterol.

Exercise-
Threw around 4 lb medicine ball for 5 minutes.
Played Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3 for Wii for 25 minutes.

I took advantage of having less vertigo than usual and danced. For the first time in a long time I broke a sweat exercising! And I’ve wanted poptarts at least 3 times this week but didn’t give in to the urge. None in the house and keeping it that way. And finally seem to have gotten my scales in agreement. Sadly I’m the heavier weight of the two but that’s what I expected.

Hard-boiled eggs as snacks are good, as are raw almonds. Boo to the heavier weight being correct. Yay to dancing :D

I do like almonds too, I just have to be sure I don’t overdo it, as I tend to go a little NUTS that on the nuts sometimes.

Here's a little cartoon, because why not.

:D I like the cartoon. Also: nuts are things to be eaten after weighing only. Them, not yourself. Or so it is for me, the calories never cease to surprise me but at least they´re healthy and make me feel satisfied.

I love the cartoon butterfly :D. I don't find raw almonds "more'ish" but they are satisfying. 6 nuts=40 calories. 6 nuts can be quite filling, eaten very slowly.....Salted nuts, on the other hand, I have trouble not over-eating. Salt is so addictive!

I really need a food scale. 6 almonds, I always eat more than that. Need to cut back.

Snacks are really my weakness I’m seeing. Has anyone ever taken a Qigong or Aikido class? If so, what was it like? Thinking I may give one or both a try.

I love Qigong & Tai Chi, but have not gone to classes for a couple of years. Aikido is meant to be excellent. It depends whether you want something more physical. Tai Chi is great for relaxation, balance, breathing. I still do it, but not as often as I probably should. You have reminded me to get my Tai Chi book out.
Not snacking is hard but will help you lose quicker. Try to have bigger meals with more protein& cut down the snacks. Less processed food is better for all of us.

Bigger meals, never thought of that. I guess I should be eating more protein. Yeah, I know I need to cut back on the snacks. Thanks Cate!
