Bulking question.

Ok so im soon to begin a bulking workout and I would like your opinions... First i was told 4-5 exercises per muscle group 4 sets of 10-12 reps but 75-80% of my max. but now ive been told i should do 4-5 exercises per muscle group and only 2 sets of no more then 6 reps but i should be pushing 95-100% of my max in those sets... so which is right? I know Fil has been saying the former but many body builders use the latter... please help me out with this one...

Its up to you but i believe in progressive and postive failure weight training. In all due respect fil weight trains everyday which is very rare in the musle building arena. Its fine if it works but its doesn't work for many.

Use compound lifts and anywhere from 6 to 12rep range. And work(hard) for the set.

I generally do 9 to 12 sets for larger muscles and 6 to 9 for smaller groups.

Take at least 2 days of rest a week.

If you're pushing yourself in the 95-100% intensity, then you're only going to be grinding out 1-2 reps. I'm kinda partial to 85% with 4 sets and 6 reps with 4 movements for each muscle group and a 5X8 set up with 2-3 movements for each muscle group. I think the 4X6 works well on more compound and larger muscle groups and the 5X8 for smaller muscle groups like the arms.

But you could easily do periodized program where you spend 3 weeks with one set up and one set of movements and then switch it to another set up. The maximal lifting will give you some awesome strength to go with the size.

I've always thought it's better to be stronger than you look than look stronger than you are.
