bulking cutting

They bulk then cut to get rid of the fat and keep the muscle. I've done it before and I don't recommend it. Don't go the "gain weight at any expense" way of doing it. Yes, gaining some fat is expected when training and eating for size but having to spend a couple of months getting rid of that extra fat to see the muscle is no fun.

There's was a good article recently at T-World that went more into this and was pretty good.

You may not have to cut when you're not bulking because you're easily burning all of your calories and maintaining your weight. When you're bulking you're eating 5-6 meals a day and 3000-4000 calories, so it's much easier to put on weight, and therefore much more cutting is needed to keep burning the fat.
