Breaking Point & New Beginning

Hello Everyone - I'm glad I found this forum although I'm finding it a bit challenging to navigate. I hope to provide support and find support for myself as I go throught this journey. I'm truly looking forward to building up a great network with others.

In April I had my annual check up done and the results were awful. BP was high, liver enflamed, pre-diabetic, thyroid low, etc etc... I was devastated. I've battled my weight my entire life and have tried everything possible and all of this with constant working out and eating carefully and battling PCOS and migraines.

I left the doctor's office and was depressed for a few weeks. Didn't know what to do so I ended up going to see a bariatrics surgeon. We looked at options and I decided to get the sleeve. Within a week everything was scheduled and we decided to self pay since insurance won't cover it and financing was a joke! Even though I made that decision and my husband was very supportive I never felt in my gut that it was the right thing for me (I know it works wonders for many people). I went through a week of stress, depression, anxiety, name it!

On the morning of my pre-admission appointment I woke up with my infamous migraines and after dropping kids to school I had to pull over in a major panic and anxiety attack. I called my husband and told him that anything so good for me shouldn't make me so stressed. Without thinking I showed up at my primary care doctor and my BP was 205/160. She immediately treated me and let me lie down, relax and collect myself. I was a mess. After a lot of time she told me about a medical weightloss program she has and invited me to get an assessment done. That is the start of my journey and I think a turning point in my life.

More to come.... :)

Welcome to the forum.

I am a PCOS lady too.

It doesnt sound like a surgical approach is best for you if it triggers panic attacks.

OK - weight control is extra hard for PCOS ladies - but it is perfectly possible... I know because I brought my weight down from very big (BMI 52) to a good level.

I would say that the best thing that you can do is to try to cut out starchy carbs...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

You have set up a diary here - but it may be worth putting a posting in the newcomer section - so that other people see that you have arrived here.

Good luck with your project.

You say that you are finding it a bit hard to navigate.

If you look at the blue heading line along the top - you find two very useful tabs...

"What's new" shows the most recent 20 postings that people have made.

"forum" shows basically a menu of the different sections of the forum (with associated sub-sections). You can then click on each sub-section and find the postings or subsections in there...

Welcome to the forum! It certainly sounds like that operation was not for you. You knew it and you felt the effects. So personally, I'm glad for your sake that you decided not to go through with it.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with so many health issues. It seems like most of us here are dealing with a lot of issues and we all hit that wall where we know it's time to make a change. Congrats to you for taking the first steps to making that change for yourself.

I'm not going to lie and say that it's going to be easy. We all struggle through it as we try to get into better habits for a healthier life, BUT the good news is that there is a GREAT support system here. Whether you're having a good day or a bad day, just post what you're feeling. We're all here to listen and to help.

My advice is to not look to far ahead into the future. Just start by making little steps and look at things one day at a time, one hour at a time if need be.

Congrats again on taking the first step and best wishes on your journey!

Thanks everyone for the kinds words and the advice. Appreciate it very much!
I am truly blessed that I've found you guys. Hope you're all having a lovely day and being awesome!

:iagree: THIS :iagree:

Welcome to forums and good luck in your process. I also sat through the bariatric surgeon's spiel and came away feeling less than inspired by it. It is a good choice for some, but not all obese people.

Anything is possible if your heart and head are in it together. If you get the chance, check out my diary. If nothing else, you'll see that no matter how deep the hole in which you start, you still fill it one shovel load at a time.
