Body Fat Measurement

I have been training with weights regularly for about 2 months now. I found that in the beggining body weight measurement by a digital scale was just fine. However, as I am gaining muscle mass it will not do anymore. To train seriously I must know my progress.

I have served in the Armed Forces for 4 years and we used the circumference method. However, I believe that to be one of the less accurate methods. After a long search tonight I have found that there are quite a few other ways to measure body fat such as:

Underwater Testing
Body fat Scales
Body fat Calipers

Obviously Underwater Testing is out of the question for me. I am left with either Body Fat Scales or Body Fat Calipers. Has anyone tried either and with what success? I have heard that the calipers are a pain to use accurately...is that the case? Please share any personal experience you may have had

i use calipers by accumeasure. i know its not 100% accurate but i have a rough idea of whay my bodyfat % would be.

i've heard that the bodyfat scales are highly unreliable. thats theres too many things to throw it off.

isnt a good way to measure body fat to see if u have a six pack? lol. if it starts to fade, lower ur food intake, and if it keeps better and better, keep doing what ur doing. if u look good who cares what a percentage is. but u guys might know a really good reason to know it. if so tell me!

Thanks Ethan

That's a pretty good link. I already used it today. Have you compared the Body Fat measurements you get from this circumference method with any other such as Calipers or Tanita body fat scales?

I used the accumeasure caliper for a while but it was very inaccurate, we recently got the Fat Gun and it seems like a better choice, it reminds me of the old fashioned metal ones.
A good caliper will help you keep track of your progress, but make sure the same person (an experienced one) measures you every time under the same conditions and on the same side of the body (generally the right).
Scales are very inaccurate, if you do chose to use one go for one with upper and lower body circuit.
