BMI Scales

Well going to buy myself some BMI scales and wondered which ones you thought were better. More contentrating on the contact points on the feet (4 or 6)

Please check out

They both have the same functions, just wondered what design you thought would be better.

both are inaccurate. bio-impediance test for body fat (not BMI) is just not reliable. your hydration levels make a HUGE difference in the result. I own a Tanita scale, and its not uncommon for me to have a 3% bodyfat swing between an 8am test, and a 6pm test on the same day!

that's significant.

a $20 set of skinfold calipers will get you much better accuracy/consistency.

That will be because your body fluids would have changed during the day. Same with weighing yourself normally.

You should always weigh yourself in the same conditions.

More to the point i was asking about the contact points on the scales.

I agree with Malkore... BMI is not that accurate as it only takes into consideration your weight and height.

Here's a free BMI calculator:

I just had my body composition done using a DXA scanner which is the most accurate way to measure your body composition.

Best of luck with your BMI, I'm just over 12% body fat and my BMI says that I am overweight. It doesn't make sense and it is a poor measurement tool when trying to calculate fitness gains.

Dont do it.

My gym has a really good set of BMI scales costing around £120. And even they are always wrong.

My BMI is around 13% (done with a 7point calliper test)
in just 2hours I used the scales 4 times my results were.

15%
26%
20%
23%

So on average that puts me on par with MacDonald’s cheese burger!

So how inaccurate do you think it will be with £30 pair.

It doesn't matter if it has a thousand contact points. Bio-impediance for bodyfat testing is just extremely sketchy. How do you KNOW you are at the same hydration level today as you were a week ago when you last tested?

skinfold caliper aren't perfect either, but if you're a little dehydrated, they won't add 4% bodyfat like the 2 scales you listed.
