Blueberry03's Diary

Hey there,

Thought i would start a diary, and see if it helps me get back onto the road towards a healthy lifestyle. I am a 5 foot 2, 22 year old female, weighing in at 167 pounds. A few weeks ago I was a stone lighter, unfortunately my new AD medication has caused some weight gain that i'd be glad to get rid of.

I used to have an unhealthy obsession with my weight, food and exercise. Im generally too exhausted to go back to that kind of life, yet i am also now lacking in self discipline.

I'm hoping sharing what i eat everyday will force me to consider my diet and make some changes. I would also like to start exercising more. Feel free to drop by and say hello :)

Day One

So, to start, lets look at my current state of health.

Weight: 172 pounds (edited 6th feb)
Height: 5 foot 2
BMI: 31.5
category: obese
broca-index: 30.19%
waist-hip ratio: 0.81, normal

My general goal is to slowly reduce my BMI to 25 so im healthy again. if all goes to plan by xmas ill be back to my original weight of 126. thats 48 weeks to lose 46 pounds.

Goals:

1) BMI 30, Weight 164, Minus 8 pounds
2) BMI 29, Weight 159, Minus 13 pounds
3) BMI 28, Weight 153, Minus 19 pounds
4) BMI 27, Weight 148, Minus 24 pounds
5) BMI 26, Weight 142, Minus 30 pounds
6) BMI 25, Weight 137, Minus 35 pounds

Im not sure how much weight ill lose in one week by changing my lifestyle, so, i wont set my goals for now. but, i will tell myself to lose one pound this week, and see how it goes.

Ideas:

Ill list some ideas to help change my lifestyle. some of them i already do, but, got to start somewhere.

  • record food everyday on livestrong.com
  • eventually form a meal plan
  • No processed foods.
  • more vegetables/fruit.
  • limit cigarettes to 5 or less a day.
  • only drink alcohol socially
  • drink herbal tea instead of caffeinated drinks.
  • drink more water
  • no fizzy drinks except maybe diet ginger ale.
  • have at least 2 portions of fish a week.
  • have at least 2 veggie main meals a week.
  • limit red meat consumption.
  • replace one meal with soup/bread or salad everyday.
  • make own soup
  • never add salt to food
  • eat more rice/couscous instead of pasta so am not bloated alot.
  • replace chocolate bars/ice cream/etc with highlights hot chocolate, 40 calories
  • eat less cheese, 0-1 portion a day
  • eat less peanut butter, or just dont buy it
  • when eating porridge use fruit or honey instead of chocolate or sugar
  • dont buy cereal, just porridge, so wont eat it as a snack
  • start with doing 20 minutes of exercise everyday. can be anything from walking to using youtube videos.

thatll do for now.

Hi there *wave*,

It's fantastic that you've started a diary! I'm new here, and I have found the diary is a fantastic place for me to record my diet/exercise and of course- vent about my life :)

It seems like you've thought about the small changes you can make to your life to start you on the road to your weight loss goals! THAT'S FANTABULOUS! :) Having a plan, and goals can help a whole lot :)

I noticed that you put down "social drinking" ...I'll admit, this is going to be one of my hard steps! :) But we can do it! I never really thought about how much calories are actually in alcohol! But there's tons- which is totally scary :)

Good luck! And you can to it :)

Hey Tik :) Nice to meet you.

I know! I'll normally drink wine with friends, but i suppose i could try spirits with diet mixers or something :p

How are you finding changing your lifestyle so far? :)

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum :) Hope you'll stick around and follow your new guidelines. They all look very reasonable. I'm trying to quit or limit smoking/drinking but it's very hard!! Got myself down to under 5 cigs a day though!

How are you finding changing your lifestyle so far? :)

I'm finding it hard some days. I've been at this since the end of Dec- so about a month. I started first on making sure I was getting at least 4 hours of exercise a week in- this was a huge step for me! And I've done it! (It still takes a lot of work to be motivated to go out and get a good sweat on! :)

I'm now working on my diet. I've tried to cut out almost ALL caffeine! Which is hard! I'm eating more smaller meals a day, rather than just 1 large meal (which I was so guilty with)! I'm trying to plan my meals out, and make healthier choices!

I think it's a long, hard transition- but it's worth it!! :) As for the booze- oy! that's the hardest part! My friends often go out, and I go with them, and it's always "oh one drink won't hurt", "you deserve it", "treat yourself", and all those things! I end up indulging way too much! But I'm pulling the boot straps up and sticking to it :)

We can do it! As lovely as a nice glass of wine or a cool beer is- flaunting around in a cute little sundress this summer is TEN TIMES more lovely!!!

:hurray:

Darling - I know what you mean! At my lowest weight I still thought I was fat- it's a horrible feeling! But you know what, shape/size rarely matters to people other than you! I have learned this! Being happy with yourself, and proud of working towards your goals will come through, and you'll be surprised at how great you feel! And once you feel good about yourself, and see how beautiful/wonderful you are, you'll show it to the world!

(I sound like Oprah!)

I'm glad you nipped that from my diary!!

You're doing great!! Just remember- we're awesome :) And part of that "awesome" is because we've made the first step (coming on here, and starting a diary), on our weight loss goal!!

We can do it!! :)

Week Two

Decided to use my online diary once a week.

have been using dailyplate.com everyday since i started to log my food intake and exercise. so far ive managed to exercise nearly everyday, burning around 400-600 each day. my food intake has been pretty up and down.. going anywhere from 1200 to 2000 calories. however, it never goes above 2000, so thats good.. but i definitely need to even things out, as i always end up eating more the next day if i eat too little.. sooo, i think ill try planning meals beforehand, and see if that helps.

ive gotten rid of any junk or extras i dont need from my house.. like, peanut butter, chocolate powder, ive replaced cheese with cottage cheese, its only ~60 calories, whenever i snack i end up eating salad.. im hoping to replace bread with something else, maybe ricecakes, or tortillas. oh, and ive been eating fruit everyday, and ive been eating more vegetables.

something ive noticed looking at what i eat is that i dont eat enough at lunch/dinner so i snack alot in between.

sooo, yeah, good start :biggrinjester:

wooohoo!! Grats on your weight loss!! You're doing fantastic!!

I'll have to check out that website- it sounds great!

You're doing great with your exercising and sticking to a below 2000 calorie diet! Congrats!

You were smart to get rid of the junk food in your house...it's too tempting to grab something unhealthy when it's something ready, quick, and tasty!

thanks! :)

Week Three

My weight was stable this week, however, ive lost a total of 2.5 inches around my waist and hips, which is great, tho ive gained the same on my bum and thighs.. however, fat around the belly is considered more of a health risk so im happy with that :)

my diet has become alot more even, i havent strayed under 1600 except twice and once over 2000.

cool stuff!

-2.5 inches!! AWESOME!!

You should be so happy about that! You're doing such a great job! Counting calories, and keeping your diet below 2000 can be so hard! So good on ya for doing that!

It's nice that you have the inches lost! I know when I first started I got discouraged that the weight wasn't going down...but when i took my inches- I was amazed! That's where I saw the loss!

You're doing great! Keep up the good work!

hey :) did you have a good week?

Week Four

this week was much better. my weight hasnt changed, but, ive loss another 2 inches from my waist, and an inch from my thighs. my body shape is definitely looking more defined. :) i visited a friend over the weekend and we went walking for an hour a day, which i think helped some.

i got alil depressed at some point and kept buying chocolate when i went food shopping, and i think thats why i havent lost weight, however, i changed this by buying only very small amounts of chocolate, which seemed to work.

Hey!

Congrats on more inches being lost! That's fantastic! Don't get discouraged about the weight! That's just numbers! What's more important is that you're feeling more energized and are noticing it in your clothes :)

It's great that you and your friend went walking. I think it's so nice to have a buddy that you can do things with! I think it makes it easier to get out there and do it!

As for the chocolate! I know how hard it is! For some reason I can not CURB my cravings! I never had them until I started cutting sweets out completely! A friend told me a great trick. I buy the extra 80% dark chocolate (it's a bit lower in calories), and then i put it in the freezer. whenever I want chocolate I take a tiny piece out and eat it slowly! since it's so rich, it lasts me awhile!! hehehe that might help you!!!

I hope you have a great weekend :)

hey :) the dark chocolate idea is great, think ill try that

Week Five

Well i havent weighed myself yet, will tomorrow, but, my measurements look promising. i seem to have stopped gaining inches completely now, and am losing them. i lost an inch around my bum and 0.5 on my upper thighs, the hardest part for me to lose, yey!

Yay!! congrats on the inches lost! that's fantastic! your hard work is showing!

I hope you have a great weekend :)

Keep it up!! you're doing great!
