Blackwdw's Diary

Mmm, I love smoothies, and that one sounds really good. Well, except for the beans, lol

Trust me, you can't taste the beans! Just a little extra protein. Still, my husband constantly teases me about my "bean shakes".

T2 Trucker -- Same birthday? Coolness. I don't know that I've EVER known anyone with the same birthday as me.

Did my usual 45 minutes on the treadmill this morning, but did it at 1% incline. Woot! I was tired again this morning, had a headache, too. I don't know what the heck is up with that. I've been feeling really good since I started working out/eating healthier, right up until yesterday. Just got over a cold, and had a ton of energy, even through that, so I'm probably not getting sick. Who knows. Now that I think about it, I didn't sleep very well...had a dream about Hitler. I have weird dreams. Anyway...

Mmm... Peanut butter sounds really good right now. I haven't eaten it in years! Maybe all dieters crave it? lol.

Great job eating healthily, I wish that my daily menu looked like yours!

Know what you mean about dreams, too... Sometimes I wish that the really weird ones aren't a reflection of my innermost thoughts. Congrats on getting over your cold, too! Those things are always nasty.

Hey ya'll. Had a better day today. Work didn't suck quite as hard. I could not resist the Q'doba burrito for dinner, no matter how hard I tried. It's not the unhealthiest thing in the world, but it certainly has enough calories.

2 sets one armed row
1 set calf raises
2 sets crunches

30 minutes on the treadmill -- 2% incline

Hi Blackwdw,
It looks like you are doing great - your menu and exercising is teriffic :D
At this rate, you'll be at your goal in NO time!

And OMG I love peanut butter. We call them a peanutbutterspoons - I really should measure out how much peanut btter is on the spoon at least ONCE!
;)

If it's on a teaspoon, it's a teaspoon of peanut butter, right? Right? Damn.

OK, so the scale went in the wrong direction this morning, but I'm blaming it on the 1490 mg of sodium in that burrito last night. I've tried to recreate the burrito at home (it's one of my favorite meals in the entire world), but I can't fight the compulsion to make it healthy, which means less salt, less fat, brown rice, etc, so it never tastes the same, and I still crave the original. Oh well. One burrito every week and a half or so isn't going to kill me.

Got on the treadmill for 45 minutes this morning...3.2 mph. I'm really flying now. Yes, that was sarcasm. I'm just trying to increase slowly so I don't end up hurting myself and quitting.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous day!

Hey, it's ok that the scale went the wrong way a little bit. I think this has to be a kind of one step forward two steps back process, otherwise we'll lose too fast and it wont stick. So try not to worry. Have a good day!

I have the biggest peanut butter craving right now.....I wonder if I have some in my trunk? I'm gonna go check...I keep the oddest things in my car.

You have peanut butter in your car? That's weird, but I'm sorta jealous. *laugh* I'm famous for keeping food in the car, but it's usually crackers.

Depression

It seems like, for a lot of people, being overweight and depression are linked. Which one causes the other is kind of a chicken and egg question. A catch-22 where the more you weigh, the more depressed you get, and the more depressed you get, the more you eat. I've battled the two for many years. I've been on anti-depressants, and they really helped. But I never wanted that to be my long term solution. I don't know that I've found my long term solution, but I'm working towards it, and that's what really matters. I am not a doctor, and if you are seriously depressed, you should see one. It helps.

That being said, I have found several things that GREATLY affect my mood and help ward off the lowest of the lows. The longer I live, the more I believe that the mind and body are closely linked, and the better you treat your body, the better your mind works. Things that help:
1. Drinking plenty of water.
2. Getting exercise at least five days a week.
3. Avoiding hunger/low blood sugar -- This is a big one for me. If my blood sugar gets too low I turn into a crazy, crying, angry, depressed mess. It has caused some serious meltdowns in the past. Avoiding the low blood sugar thing has several facets.
--Not eating a bunch of sugary stuff, which then causes a huge crash.
--Making sure I always have a healthy snack in my purse.
--Eating a high fiber diet, with enough protein...this helps me stay fuller, longer, and avoids the sugar crashes.
--Eating when I'm hungry. I refuse to be on a starvation diet. If I am truly hungry, I eat something.
4. Last but not least is eating healthy fats. I always make sure I get enough Omega-3's from canola oil, flax seeds, flax seed oil and salmon.

I'm not saying I've found some miracle cure, or that I'm perfect in my attempt. I still have bouts of depression, but usually I can pin it on slipping up and not taking care of myself in the above ways. I am posting this here in hopes that it gives you some insight into who I am and why I eat and exercise the way I do and maybe someone will get some information that may help them be happier. I just want everyone to be happy!

Had a bad weekend calorie-wise. To much alcohol and salty snacks. I'm not going to list it all. I'm not sure I'd even remember everything. I'm trying very hard to stop beating myself up. The positive thinking is not really flowing right now. If anyone has any encouraging words, lay it on me.

On a slightly more positive note, I did get on the treadmill for 45 minutes this morning. However, now my shins hurt. That totally sucks. Shin splints have derailed my exercise programs in the past. I haven't stopped stretching, I haven't upped the exercise that much...what the hell????

I usually keep my peanut butter at the office, but we were recently moving so I think it got put in the trunk and never moved back :) Crackers are fairly typical car food for me too, but I have been trying to cut down on that. I'll eat an entire row of crackers without noticing.
