Today I turn 35 and I am about 6 lbs lighter than the heaviest I have even been at 188.I have been going up and down for the past 6 years mostly up and up and up. I sit here at with the theme of Rocky in my head, I am ready to put on my boxing gloves and go in the ring once and for all and reign over the battle of the bulge.:boxing: No more excuses for me.

My usual MO is that me and hubby plan a vacation. We usually go someplace warm and I can't fit into my shorts. So I usually work my tail feathers off for about 2 months loose about 10-20 pounds. I over indulge on vacation, gain the most of the weight back and continue until I plan my next vacation. Good thing we go on vacation often.

We are going on a mini-vacation for my birthday. Which is Vegas. We leave tomorrow. My game plan is simple. Get as much exercise and physical activity in that I can, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and try as much as possible to stay away from sweets and french fries. I will only drink red wine. None of those fufu sugary drinks or shots, no matter how good they are.

I have also decided that I want to walk the LA Marathon, which is in February. I started walking last week. I started off with walking a couple of miles and two days I walked home for work which is over six miles. I was really excited. Three days last week I walked over six miles in one day. Unfortunately, my schedule has not permitted me to do that this week. But, I am sure I will get in plenty of exercise in Vegas this week. Upon my return next week I will get 6 miles in at least 3 days a week. I will also invest in a nice pedometer that can track how much I am walking. Does anyone have any suggestions?

SOme find pedometers helpful for making you walk more -but many of them - especially the cheaper models aren't overly accurate and not at all accurate when it comes to calories burned... if you want to see what you're walking - there are a ton of sites on the web such as that allow you to basically map out your walk and you'll see the mileage that you're putting on..

Walking the marathon would be a great accomplishment and totally do-able... Does the LA marathon require you to finish in a specific time frame? (Chicago you have to be done in 6 1/2 hours which is just under a 15 minute mile -do-able but still challenging maintaing that pace)

What's your training plan for that?

LA marathon does not have a require to finish time. Although, street will re-open and walkers will be required to finish the race curb side. The time requirement to stay on the street is about a 13 minute mile.

My goal for training will be simply walking. Less than a mile from my home is a bike/walk path which stretches 22 miles. I will try to use that to measure the distance and try to increase that every week. That is the Goal.

Today I work for 1/2 day then I am off to Vegas. Although, I am really excited I just hope I will make good food choices so that it will reflect on the scale come next Wednesday when I step on the scale again. Yesterday morning I was 188.1.
I am off to a good start today I went to the dreaded work cafe. When I go for breakfast I usually get a high calorie, high fat breakfast sandwich. Today I got smart start cereal, 2% milk and a Banana. I just hope I can keep it up.

Managed not to gain weight in Vegas

I went to Vegas for 5 days and managed to come back lighter than I went. Not by much less than a pound, but I am happy I didn't gain any. I did really good for the first two days. I worked out and stayed away from bad carbs and potatoes no sweet drinks. I started weakening, after the first couple of days, but I walked a lot everyday. I am down from 188.1 to 187.2.

Today I have started out pretty good. I had oatmeal and an apple for breakfast with green tea.

Yesterday was a good day.
Breakfast Oatmeal and small apple
snack small apple
Lunch Robeck's smoothie
Snack granola bar
Dinner Grilled ruben sandwhich with low cal swiss cheese a very few french fries and extra sauerkraut on the side.

I also walked for about 50 minutes at lunch and worked on legs for 30 minutes at the gym and did 30 minutes of cardio.
Today will not be as good I have a lunch date, with co-workers. I will just have to make up time at the gym tonight.

hi Maimai,
nice that you went on vacation and came back lower! That must be great--don't think that's ever happened to me, although once I came back the same. Have a good time at the gym tonight.

They happen--the hardest thing about losing weight is to not go to the extremes. It's always better to manage 300-500 daily calorie deficits (for me, 300--I am NOT good at dieting!) than try 1000 calorie deficits--sometimes it seems like the body retaliates! And leads ya into an eating FRENZY. Well, maybe not for you, but for me. Balance and moderation may be easy for SOME people but I think it's the hardest thing.....I'm getting there--you, too! Don't get discouraged, today is a new day.

Good recovery

After a bad Thursday and Friday, I had a good weekend. Went to the gym both days for over and hour kept calorie count to around 1800 where it should be. I feel pretty good I hope it will reflect when I step on the scale later in the week. I will go to the gym again tonight. Tonight will be a cardio only night. I am looking forward to an hour on the elliptical or tread climber.

Hey, MaiMai. Thought I would check out your diary and see what you are up to. Hmm... *looks around* Nothing here for a while. What's up with that? :smash: I know you are doing the work. Let's see what you're doing? :lurk5:

It is Monday morning and I had an okay weekend. Last week ended on a good note. This weekend I struggled a little with it being the bad time of month for me. But, I still maintained to stay under 2000 calories. Friday I weighed my self and I was down a couple of pounds. I felt pretty good about that. On Friday I had a killer upper body workout. I did five sets of each in a pyramid style I worked chest, shoulders, and back. I was sore all weekend. On Saturday I did 50 minutes of cardio. I was craving really bad so I had 2 of Mrs. Fields 300 calorie cookies, but I had one in replace of dinner and one in the place of a snack. I still managed to only consume about 1950 calories that day. Ishape has me on 1600-1700 calories a day. Sunday, well that was a different creature all together. I was tired, and cramping all day. So I pretty much stayed home and watched football all day. The good thing is that I avoided beer, and junk food.
Today is a new day and I am ready to make my way to the gym. Today at lunch I think I will work legs at lunch time and I will take a walk this evening. Now it is time for my coffee.

Way to stay strong, MaiMai. One thing I'll do when those cravings start is I'll have a bowl of cereal with FF milk. For some reason that will kill my craving, or at least make it a little more controllable.

You had a GREAT weekend, nice one!

I had a lot of FUN but definitely not a consistent weekend for weight loss :( Better luck next time for me! Congratulations to you! :hurray:

I had a decent weekend, just not a great one I did manage to get in 30 minutes a day of physical activity, everyday. I didn't really eat all that great, but such is life. I have made a commitment to myself that I will be a healthier person. I did not gain this weight overnight so I can't expect to loose it overnight. I was up a pound of Friday when I stepped on the scale I am convinced that it is because of muscle gain. I have really been hitting the weights hard. Today I will do it again, I will hit my upper body hard.

Another month

Well, another month has came and went. I still weigh the same. Although on a positive note fore the month of October I have lost four inches around my belly. So it was a pretty good month. My biggest goal is to loose the fat around my belly and for the month of October I am closer to that goal. I am still motivated and determined to be healthier.
Over the weekend there was way too much parting, drinking and eating. It is now a new week and a new month and time to move onward and try not to make the same mistakes that I made last month and time to start a new.

MaiMai, four inches is a bigger success then 4 pounds, any day (or month.) Partying over the weekend happens, and the scale will jump from that, but the long run is what matters.

New Motivation

My husband and I just booked a 12 cruise to Europe for next September. On my 36th birthday I will be waking up in Dubrovnik, Croatia. That gives me 45 weeks to get my act together and loose 60 pounds. Since, I am not in a hurry I have a real good chance of loosing the weight and keeping it off. I haven't been as good as I would like to in my keeping up in my journal. The truth is is that I do really good Monday through Thursday, then I pretty much blow everything I had worked so hard for during the week.
I have joined a new gym a few weeks ago and they have a gym really close to my job and also one really close to my home. I have been doing very well at lunch, with my eating and going to the gym. Just after I leave work I leave my good habits behind. I know I really need to journal my food for the evening, but most of the time I think I am doing okay until I journal is and figure out how many calories I have consumed. My big problem is portion control at dinner. I usually eat until I am stuffed. I know that is an issue and I need to be very mindful of that.
Now that I am over 30 I can't believe how hard this is. For the last few years I have been really struggling to get lean. I want to say this to all of those people under 30 it is so much easier to do the younger you are. With what I have been doing over the course of the last two months, when I did this 6 years ago I would be close to my goal weight. But now that I am 35 the fat I have been caring around with me just doesn't want to leave. So I have to get tougher and more disciplined.
